"The final match will begin in ten minutes. Ryju vs. Kuroyami," announced the Spiritual King, his voice echoing across the open field.
Kuroyami stood with his arms crossed, his eyes sharp with anticipation. "This is my chance to see if I truly want to become a ninja…"
Ryju cracked his knuckles, his usual confident grin spreading across his face. "You ready? I won't go easy on you."
"I didn't ask you to," Kuroyami replied, not even flinching.
From a few feet away, Rei leaned forward, eyes gleaming. "This is the battle I've been waiting for."
Shun stretched, finally feeling the energy return to his limbs. "I can finally move again. But this battle might actually be interesting."
Kenshiro nodded in agreement. "I feel you on that one."
Goro added, "Ryju's senses are top-notch. This should be good."
The Spiritual King raised his hand. "Are you ready? Let the final battle… begin!"
Ryju's eyes lit up. "Let's get started."
"Full Body Spiritual Force!" both shouted in unison as their auras exploded around them, shaking the ground.
Kuroyami rushed forward, blade drawn. Ryju met him head-on, throwing a punch. Kuroyami dodged swiftly, swinging for Ryju's stomach.
"Oh no, you don't!" Ryju grabbed the sword mid-swing and twisted, trying to strike Kuroyami with his own weapon.
"What the hell?!" Kuroyami muttered, eyes wide.
With a smirk, Ryju tossed the sword back. Kuroyami caught it instinctively.
"Thanks for the throw," Kuroyami said. "Multi-Spiritual Slashes!"
Blades of energy flew toward Ryju, but he weaved through them effortlessly.
"C'mon, you can do better than that."
"You bet I can!" Kuroyami countered, but Ryju vanished.
"Above you," Ryju said as he appeared above Kuroyami. "Spiritual Punch!"
The blow sent Kuroyami crashing to the ground. Ryju followed up, dropping toward him. "Red Fist!"
Kuroyami's heart pounded. "If this connects, I'm done for…"
BOOM!
Rei's jaw dropped. "What just happened?!"
Kuroyami coughed, barely blocking the blow. "Damn, that was strong."
Ryju blinked. "Oh? He blocked it?"
Kuroyami laughed weakly, jumping away. "That almost got me."
"I swear that was going to finish you off."
"Well, you were wrong."
"Spiritual Arrow!"
"Spiritual Slice!"
The two attacks collided mid-air, causing a deafening shockwave.
Ryju burst forward, slapping Kuroyami's sword aside. "So, hand-to-hand it is?"
"Yeah, you're right."
They exchanged furious punches and kicks. Kuroyami ducked low for an uppercut, but Ryju's knee struck first, forcing him back.
"I got this," Kuroyami muttered.
"Show me, then!"
Kuroyami flipped over Ryju, landing a clean kick to his face. Ryju snarled, spinning around just in time to take a punch.
"Bro!" he shouted, grinning. "This is the fight I've been waiting for."
He swept Kuroyami's legs and launched him into the air, appearing behind him mid-flight. Another punch sent Kuroyami slamming back into the ground.
"Not a bad combo," Kuroyami admitted, slowly rising.
He thought to himself: "I need to get stronger."
He picked up his blade. "Spiritual Cloak Control Slash!"
Ryju sidestepped. "Easy dodge."
"Oh, for real?" The slash curved back.
"What?!" Ryju took the hit, grunting.
"Got you," Kuroyami said. "Now to finish this!"
"Not on my watch!" Ryju jumped. "Spiritual Kick!"
Kuroyami blocked with his sword. The two launched into the air, clashing in a breathtaking aerial duel.
"Spiritual Punch!"
"Spiritual Slash!"
They collided one last time before plummeting to the ground, both exhausted.
Ryju stood. "I think it's time we end this."
"Yeah," Kuroyami nodded.
"All the power I've got — into my fist!"
"All the power I've got — into my sword!"
They sprinted at each other.
"Of all the power I got… may this be the last strike!"
"I'M GOING TO END THIS!!"
Their final clash echoed across the plains.
BOOM!
Shun gasped. "Again?!"
Rei whispered, "Wow."
The Spiritual King nodded. "That was their final attack."
Goro said, "I think Ryju won. I saw his spiritual force overcome Kuroyami's."
Kenshiro agreed. "Yeah, same here."
As the dust cleared, Rei leaned forward. "Who's standing…?"
"It's Ryju," the Spiritual King confirmed.
"1… 2… 3… 4… 5… 6… 7… 8… 9… 10! Ryju has won!"
"Let's go!" Ryju shouted triumphantly.
Kuroyami grinned, out of breath. "I almost had you."
"Not even close," Ryju said as they both laughed.
Ryju extended a hand and helped Kuroyami up.
"That was a great battle," the Spiritual King said. "You both fought well to the bitter end. Now, the rankings!"
"Rankings?" Ryju asked.
"Yep," the King confirmed. "Number one, Kenshiro. Number two, Ryju. Number three, Rei. Number four, Goro. Number five, Shun. And number six, Kuroyami."
"How?!" Kuroyami shouted.
"That's based on spiritual force alone. Yours is the weakest."
"So I've got the most spiritual force?" Kenshiro asked.
"Yes, but that doesn't mean much. Most of you are only fourteen years old. You all have time to grow."
Rei tilted her head. "Quick question. Why did you make it seem like there was a crowd, when it's just six of us?"
The King shrugged. "To hype you up."
Shun pointed at the field. "And what do you mean by 'arena'? We're just fighting in open grass."
"Same answer."
Everyone laughed.
"But seriously," the King continued, "you all get some rest."
"One more question," Goro said. "How old are you?"
"Twenty," the Spiritual King replied.
"TWENTY?!" they all gasped.
"So young…" Rei whispered.
Kuroyami looked down until Ryju nudged him.
"How about we get dinner tonight?" Ryju asked.
"Yeah!" everyone agreed.
"I got a new spot," Rei said.
"Do they have fried chicken and lemonade?" Ryju asked hopefully.
"Is that all you eat?" Rei chuckled.
"And powdered doughnuts," Ryju added proudly.
The Spiritual King chimed in, "Oh, and don't forget about the second challenge tomorrow."
They've gotten stronger so quickly, he thought to himself.
"Okay!" they all shouted in unison.
"Today's the day… the new challenge begins." Ryju stood confidently at the ancient gate of the Great Ninja Academy, fists clenched and spirit burning. The gate's dragon-etched stone shimmered with spiritual energy, a remnant of the legendary battles that took place on this sacred ground centuries ago.
Rei yawned, stretching lazily. "The new challenge, huh? Wonder what it's gonna be this time."
Kuroyami's eyes narrowed as he approached. "Whatever it is… we can't be weak."
Kenshiro dragged his feet behind them. "What a drag. Another challenge?"
"I'm pumped!" Goro shouted, fire in his voice. "No matter what, I'll keep going… that's the promise I made to my brother."
Shun grinned. "Let's go already—I'm more than ready."
The six of them gathered at the front gates of the academy, standing shoulder to shoulder.
Ryju looked around at the crew. "Everyone ready?"
Rei hesitated. "Yeah… I think."
"Yeah," Kuroyami answered with a quiet nod.
Goro pumped his fist. "Of course I am!"
Kenshiro sighed. "Can I go home?"
"No!" the others shouted in perfect unison.
Kenshiro smirked. "Heh. That's how you know we're ready."
Laughter broke out as the tension melted for a moment. Ryju waved his hand. "Alright, let's move."
They entered the academy, the building packed with students.
The Academy's Grand Hall was buzzing. Over 300 students, each born across different provinces of the Villages, crowded the spiritual stone floors. Massive banners floated in the air, each representing a different ninja clan.
"Looks like everyone's here, huh?" Rei observed.
"No kidding," Shun replied. "It's packed."
Suddenly, a voice called out from across the crowd.
"So, you showed up."
Ryju's smile faded. "You…"
Uzuki approached, flanked by his squad: Hana and Jake.
Hana crossed her arms. "So these are the ones you almost killed, huh?"
Jake sneered. "Look at 'em. They're tiny."
"Who are you talking to like that?" Rei snapped, stepping forward.
Goro raised a hand calmly. "We don't have any issues with you. Just Uzuki."
"Everyone, calm down," Ryju said, his tone sharp.
"But they're talking all tough—" Rei started.
"I said calm down."
Rei fell silent.
Ryju took a step forward. "It won't end the same way as last time."
Uzuki smirked. "Oh? We'll see."
Kenshiro yawned. "How about you all just walk away so we don't have any problems?"
Jake sneered. "And what if we don't—?"
Suddenly, Kenshiro vanished in a blur of speed and reappeared behind Jake, his hand glowing with concentrated spiritual force, resting just beside Jake's neck.
"Say that again," Kenshiro whispered.
Jake froze. "So fast! When did he—?!"
Ryju blinked. "Kenshiro…?"
"Let go of my brother!" Hana shouted.
Uzuki raised a hand. "Enough. You've gotten stronger. We'll back off… for now. Let's go."
Jake and Hana followed without another word.
As they walked away, Hana leaned in. "Jake, are you okay?"
Uzuki muttered under his breath. "So fast…"
Kenshiro stepped back, brushing invisible dust off his shoulder.
"They're gone now," he said flatly.
Ryju stared at him. "You were so fast… Like, who even are you?"
Kenshiro looked away. "Backstory later. We've got a challenge to face."
Suddenly, a voice echoed through the academy.
"Welcome, everyone! This is the Second Challenge!" announced the Spiritual King.
Ryju stepped forward. "What is it this time?"
The King smiled. "I'm sure you're all wondering. The second challenge is simple… Capture the other team's flag."
Murmurs filled the hall.
Kuroyami tilted his head. "Ah. A capture-the-flag battle?"
"Correct," the King said. "Everyone will report to the Great Woods immediately."
The students made their way to the enormous forest just outside the village walls. Trees stretched endlessly into the distance.
"Welcome to the largest forest in the Great Village," the King said as the crowd gaped.
"It's so big," someone muttered.
"These are the rules," the King continued. "Each person carries a flag. To capture another's, take it and plant your own flag over theirs. A captured flag will glow with a star symbol. You'll know your flag color once your team number is assigned."
He paused dramatically.
"There are 300 of you, split into teams of six. That's 50 groups. Once 33 teams are eliminated, the challenge ends. Only 102 of you will move on. If you're eliminated, that's it—you wait until next year to become a ninja."
Ryju's eyes widened. "So if we lose… we're done for the year?"
"We're going to win," Rei said firmly.
Kuroyami nodded. "We trained for this."
"I can't lose," Goro whispered.
Kenshiro rolled his eyes. "Man, I really hate this."
Shun clenched his fists. "They're here… and they're gonna pay."
The Spiritual King raised his hand. "Let the challenge… begin!"
In a flash of light, the entire academy was teleported.
Team One materialized in a shaded part of the forest.
"We're here," Ryju said, scanning the surroundings.
"That was quick," Kenshiro noted.
Kuroyami checked his flag. "We're Team One. Flag color… red."
"I'm ready," Shun said.
"So am I," Goro added, standing tall.
Far off in the distance, the echoes of the King's voice rang out once more.
"Now that everyone is in position… the challenge officially begins."
