Chapter 132 - Massive Spawn of Variant Ogi Zenin

As a summoning-type sorcerer, Spirit-Calling Granny's level was indeed extremely high.

On one hand, during the original Shibuya Incident she had said something to the effect of, "As long as Satoru Gojo isn't there, no one is worth fearing" — implying that, in her own estimation, her strength rendered every Jujutsu High sorcerer in the Shibuya Incident other than Satoru Gojo himself unnecessary. Mahoraga, of course, not included.

On the other hand, Spirit-Calling Granny had in fact summoned the likes of Toji Fushiguro, proving that she really did have her chops.

In truth, Spirit-Calling Jujutsu was not without limitations.

On the contrary, one could say it had plenty.

First of all, as a condition of Spirit-Calling, Granny had to have the corpse of the deceased, and she had to be able to extract the dead person's "physical information" and "soul information."

This information-extraction process depended heavily on Granny's own "information-processing ability," and required her to spend a considerable amount of time "processing" each Spirit-Calling material.

Therefore, even though she had dug up the burial grounds of the Zenin estate from top to bottom, the ones she had truly finished processing — the ones she could currently call up — were only the "mediocre" sorcerers; roughly on Ogi Zenin's level.

Those sorcerers who had once possessed the Ten Shadows Technique, or those dead with other Techniques wielded at Special Grade sorcerer strength — those Spirit-Calling Granny [for the moment] could not yet summon.

But Ogi Zenin's level was plenty.

The Kukuru Squad numbered no fewer than several dozen, after all.

The second limitation of the Spirit-Calling Technique was that the "vessel" — the carrier of the descended spirit — had to supply its own Cursed Energy in support.

That is to say, the Spirit-Calling Technique could grant the "vessel" the body and Technique of the deceased, but it could not alter the total amount of Cursed Energy. When the Cursed Energy ran dry, the spirit-calling would end.

The Kukuru Squad were merely without Techniques — they were not incapable of using Cursed Energy. Now Spirit-Calling Granny had performed a large-scale spirit-calling, and every one of them had been granted Ogi Zenin–level bodies and Techniques.

In this instant, the combat strength of the entire Zenin estate rested upon its ancestral graves — and made a great leap forward.

Without a doubt, the mighty power of the ancestral graves had been put on full display.

Anyone watching would have had to sigh and admit that it turned out ancestors were such convenient things after all.

"You'd actually toy with your forebears like this?" Zen'in Mai had no idea what expression she ought to wear. "How could you do this... and what about those people back at your own house?"

She had thought herself a heretic, but the scene before her... was so extreme it would have the radicals exclaiming it was too radical, and the rebels feeling that they were perfectly obedient children.

Zen'in Mai even saw her own grandmother's grandfather's second-eldest uncle — someone she had only ever seen in photographs.

To the point that... even Mahiru felt the itch to give it a try.

Whoa, maybe I should learn a Spirit-Calling Technique too.

This feels so much fun it's about to explode, you get me?

Sure, your Zenin estate's ancestral graves are spectacular, and the Kamo family's are hidden and hard to find — but in my opinion, Satoru Gojo's family graves would be the most bewitching and adorable of all.

Hehehehe...

But then again, no one even knows where the Gojo family's burial ground is, so it's mostly just a joke.

Should I really pick this up?

If nothing else — digging up your opponent's ancestors and beating them in a fight has got to be the most insulting move possible, right?

Hilarious.

But setting aside the matter of morals, and setting aside the matter of whether or not it's amusing —

The most important point... is that the situation has now changed.

The Zenin estate's existing combat strength had originally been nothing particularly dazzling. Aside from Naoya Zenin's willingness to wield the Soul-Severing Blade, which sent his strength skyrocketing... the original lineup could have been beaten by the Jujutsu High camp.

But now it was different.

Every member of the Kukuru Squad had had their combat strength rocket up to Ogi Zenin's level — and on top of that, with Urogi Kyoko added in, the Zenin estate's overall combat strength figure had climbed to a level beyond comprehension.

Forget Nanami Kento and the others.

Even Maki Zenin — whose power had surged to overwhelming heights and who was brimming with confidence — felt, at this very moment, the looming threat of danger.

Megumi Fushiguro gritted her teeth.

She raised a hand, and the shadow at her feet stretched outward — a cursed tool surfaced from within the shadow space.

It was a three-section staff, crimson red throughout, with the texture of metal, engraved with strange black wrinkle-like markings.

This was a Special Grade cursed tool — Playful Cloud.

A might-makes-right numerical weapon capable of doubling the user's attack power, it had been given to Fushiguro Maki for self-defense.

And now Megumi Fushiguro tossed this cursed tool to Yuji Itadori.

"You're cleared to use lethal force," Nanami Kento said, his blunt blade wreathed in dense Cursed Energy. "If anything happens, I'll take the fall."

The current situation... no longer left any room for holding back.

In the blink of an eye, every member of the Kukuru Squad had finished being spirit-called.

Several dozen Ogi-Zenin-level Grade 1 sorcerers at the entry tier... a quantitative change is more than enough to produce a qualitative one — more than enough to drive any sorcerer who could not touch the two characters of "Special Grade" to absolute despair.

But —

Maki Zenin, in this moment, held her breath, her pupils contracting tight.

Her line of sight cut straight through the bodies of the Kukuru Squad, locking with unerring precision onto one of them in particular.

Ogi Zenin.

Yes — since the information was extracted from the corpses of the already-dead, the most convenient corpse to lay hands on was none other than the freshly-killed Ogi Zenin.

For ease of control, Spirit-Calling Granny had not slotted any "soul information" into the Kukuru Squad members — but Ogi Zenin was different. He was one of their faction, so his soul had naturally been called down as well. It was a complete resurrection.

And so Maki Zenin suddenly broke into an excited grin.

The bastard who had once cornered them with nowhere to turn... the bastard who had practically ruined the first half of their lives!!

He had risen from the dead, and was standing before her once more!

How could Maki Zenin possibly hold herself back?!

"Go on," Mahiru chuckled softly. "All of this... wreck the whole damn thing."

The cursed mark on the tip of her tongue appeared once again.

"All of you — 「Don't move」."

A single second. The Cursed Speech fell. The Kukuru Squad members had no defense whatsoever against Cursed Speech Techniques, and were all pinned in place for a second and a half.

And in that very same instant, Maki Zenin's figure vanished from beside Mahiru. A gale was kicked up in her wake, and the girl plunged into the crowd like a bolt of black lightning — a cursed tool in each hand, left and right — her body whirling like a blender as she hacked and slashed, sending several heads flying skyward.

Among them was Ogi Zenin's head — still without time to react.

"Hahahahaha!! ——"

Maki Zenin burst into wild laughter.

Only now did the rest of them shake off the grip of the Cursed Speech, hurriedly cramming all manner of Cursed Energy–infused items into their ears as they hefted their cursed tools and lunged at Maki Zenin.

Maki Zenin's figure was like a dance, the two blades in her left and right hands weaving through the crowd like swimming dragons.

Maki Zenin's current strength was not as great as in the original work, and she did not have the defense-ignoring Soul-Severing Blade in her hands — the reason she had been able to behead so many in the first strike was because Mahiru's Cursed Speech control had left these people unable to move and unable to summon Cursed Energy in defense.

Plunged now into a sea of sorcerers at Ogi Zenin's level, she was, in truth, in considerable danger.

Yet she only grew more and more excited.

In her eyes, every single person here had become a murderer who had bound and oppressed her life.

It was not that she had killed one Ogi Zenin.

Rather — there were several dozen more Ogi Zenins here, waiting for her to cut them down!

In the original work, Maki Zenin had become a tyrant — the blunt blade of vengeance forged by losing everything.

But now, she had lost nothing — and lacked for nothing.

The girl's trajectory through life had already been utterly transformed because of Mahiru.
