Chapter 32 - CHAPTER 30: Coffee, Chaos, and “I Do”

The morning of the wedding started exactly how Lia Henderson expected.

With chaos.

"…WHERE ARE THE FLOWERS?!" Mia shouted from across the room.

"…I thought YOU had them!" Lia yelled back, holding one shoe and absolutely no idea where the other one was.

"…I had them yesterday!"

"…That doesn't help TODAY!"

Somewhere in the middle of it all—

A bouquet fell over.

A chair scraped loudly.

Someone tripped over a box labeled "IMPORTANT – DO NOT TOUCH."

"…This is perfect," Lia muttered under her breath.

Across town—

Ethan Cruz adjusted his tie for the fifth time.

"…You're going to wrinkle it," his friend said.

"…It already feels wrong," Ethan replied. "…What if I mess this up?"

"…You proposed in a café with a broken chair," his friend said. "…You'll be fine."

Ethan paused.

"…That's… not reassuring."

Back at the venue—

Lia finally found her other shoe.

Victory.

She sat down for a moment, taking a breath.

For the first time all morning—

Stillness.

"…Hey," Mia said softly, sitting beside her. "…You okay?"

Lia nodded slowly.

"…Yeah," she said. "…I just… can't believe this is happening."

"…You mean marrying the most chaotic man alive?" Mia teased.

"…Exactly that," Lia smiled.

Then, quieter—

"…But also… I can't imagine not doing it."

Mia squeezed her hand.

"…That's how you know," she said.

The ceremony was set just outside the café.

Not a grand ballroom.

Not something extravagant.

Just…

String lights.

Simple chairs.

Familiar faces.

And the place where everything began.

Ethan stood at the front, hands slightly shaking.

"…You're sweating," someone whispered.

"…I'm aware," he muttered.

Then—

The music started.

And everything else faded.

Lia walked toward him slowly.

Not perfectly.

Not dramatically.

Just… her.

And that was enough.

Ethan let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding.

"…Wow," he whispered.

She reached him, smiling softly.

"…You're staring," she said.

"…I can't help it," he replied.

The officiant began speaking, but neither of them fully heard it.

Because in that moment—

It was just them.

"…You ready?" Ethan asked quietly.

"…With you?" Lia said. "…Always."

Their vows weren't perfect.

They weren't polished.

They were…

Honest.

"…I promise," Ethan said, "…to keep choosing you. Even when things get messy."

Lia smiled through tears.

"…Especially when things get messy," she added.

"…I promise to support you," he continued. "…Even when I accidentally make things worse."

"…That happens often," she said.

"…I know," he admitted.

Laughter rippled through the crowd.

"…And I promise," Lia said, "…to build something real with you. Not perfect—but ours."

That was it.

That was everything.

"…I do," he said.

"…I do," she echoed.

And just like that—

They were no longer just chaos and coffee and almost-moments.

They were forever.

Ethan leaned in—

And kissed her.

Applause erupted.

Someone cheered loudly.

A chair tipped over in the back.

"…Of course," Lia laughed.

"…Wouldn't be our wedding without it," Ethan said.

Later, as the celebration carried on—

Music played.

Coffee flowed.

Laughter filled the air.

Lia stood beside Ethan, watching it all.

"…This is exactly what I wanted," she said softly.

"…Messy?" he asked.

"…Perfect," she corrected.

He smiled.

"…You know," he said, "…this feels like the beginning."

She looked at him.

Then at the café.

Then back at him.

"…It is," she said.

Because their story had never been about perfect moments.

Or grand plans.

Or flawless endings.

It was about:

Spilled coffee.

Flying muffins.

Late nights.

Hard conversations.

And choosing each other—

Again and again.

Under string lights.

In quiet moments.

In chaos.

Always.
