Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: The Jade’s Secret

As the hours slipped by, the market slowly began to empty. But something had already shifted.

And neither of them could ignore it. Night settled fully over Ying Mountain, and the lanterns hanging from the stalls flickered like restless fireflies.

Han Liang moved through the shadows with practiced ease, watching quietly as merchants exchanged brief words and cautious glances. Every step was measured, every breath controlled. Years of training had made him almost invisible.

Yet even as he observed, part of his mind refused to let go of what had happened moments before— Those eyes…

they stayed with him longer than they should have.

Wide. Trembling. Unsettling.

Yuan Yu.

Away from the thinning crowd, Yuan Yu slipped into a small courtyard tucked behind the market. He sat down, the jade comb resting in his palm. His fingers traced its surface as though listening for something only he could hear.

The comb was no simple ornament. It responded to him. And he could feel it.

It carried secrets.

 Memories.

 Something… unfamiliar.

Han Liang's gaze lingered from above. For a brief moment, instinct pulled him forward.

Should he follow… or should he remember why he was here?

With effort, he turned away. The mission came first.

Later, at the edge of the market, he met his second-in-command—his childhood companion, a man whose presence was as steady as steel. A pale sword scar traced the line of his jaw, silent proof of battles survived.

They spoke in low voices.

Then—

Movement. A flicker at the far corner. Masked figures had appeared, their words carried only faintly through the night. Someone was buying weapons.

Someone was preparing for war.

"The payment will be made by the Jewel Sect."

Han Liang's expression sharpened.

The Jewel Sect…

So it begins…

A plan began to form, cold and deliberate.

Meanwhile, Yuan Yu remained seated, unaware of the presence that had lingered near him. The jade comb felt warmer now, as though it had awakened.

Neither of them was truly alone anymore.

As night deepened, Yuan Yu returned toward his sect's grand residence, its walls rising like a palace among the peach trees.

Han Liang disappeared into the darkness toward the inn—

their paths separating for now…

but something unseen had already begun to pull them closer.

their paths separating for now…

but something unseen had already begun to pull them closer.

And somewhere, hidden beneath silence and shadows—

the first threads of fate had already been tied.
