Across the Sea

The gates of the capital stood tall behind him.

Kael did not turn back.

He couldn't.

Not after everything.

The guards at the gate avoided his eyes as they handed him a small pouch. Inside were a few silver coins and basic travel supplies. Nothing more. No escort. No farewell. No dignity.

A former crown prince… reduced to this.

"By royal decree," one of the guards muttered, almost unwilling to speak, "you are to leave the kingdom immediately and never return."

Kael gave a slight nod.

He said nothing.

What was there to say?

He stepped past the gates, and the moment he did, it felt as though something invisible had snapped. Like a thread tying him to the kingdom had been cut.

The road ahead stretched far into the distance.

Unknown.

Unforgiving.

Free.

Days passed.

Kael traveled alone, moving through villages and forests, keeping his head low. No one recognized him now. The royal clothes were gone, replaced with simple traveler's garments. Dust clung to him. Hunger gnawed at his stomach.

He had never lived like this before.

Every step reminded him of how far he had fallen.

At night, he would sit by small fires, staring into the flames, lost in thought.

Was I really that useless…?

He clenched his fist.

"No," he muttered quietly.

If he was truly nothing… then what was this?

[Pinnacle Sovereign System Activated]

The voice still echoed in his mind.

It hadn't disappeared.

If anything, it felt clearer now.

On the seventh day, Kael reached the coast.

The vast sea stretched endlessly before him, waves crashing against the docks. Ships of all sizes were anchored, merchants shouting, sailors moving cargo, the smell of salt heavy in the air.

This was the edge of his former world.

Beyond this sea… was the unknown.

Abroad.

A place where no one knew him.

Where no one cared who he used to be.

Kael stood there for a long time.

Then he took a step forward.

It didn't take long to find a ship.

A merchant vessel, old but sturdy, preparing to sail for a distant land across the sea.

"You?" the captain said, eyeing him from head to toe. "You don't look like a sailor."

"I'm not," Kael replied calmly.

"Then why should I take you?"

Kael placed the pouch of coins on the table.

"It's all I have."

The captain glanced at it, then at Kael again.

"Hm. Not much. But we need extra hands." He smirked. "You work, you stay. You slack, you're thrown overboard. Understood?"

Kael nodded.

"Understood."

The ship left at dawn.

As the sails rose and the wind carried them away from the shore, Kael stood at the edge of the deck.

The kingdom faded into the distance.

Smaller.

And smaller.

Until it was gone.

He exhaled slowly.

"It's over…"

No crown.

No title.

No expectations.

No chains.

For the first time… he felt something strange.

Relief.

Then suddenly—

A faint glow appeared before his eyes again.

Clearer than before.

Stronger.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

Locked?

[Condition Detected]

[Talent Suppressed by Unknown Law]

His heart skipped.

Suppressed?

Before he could react—

[Initiating Override…]

A sharp pain shot through his body.

Kael dropped to one knee, gripping the wooden deck as his entire body trembled.

"What the—!"

His vision blurred.

Something inside him… was breaking.

No.

Not breaking.

Unsealing.

[First Authority Granted: Chaos Seed]

Silence.

Then…

A pulse.

Dark.

Deep.

Ancient.

Kael's breathing slowed.

His eyes opened slowly.

For a brief moment… something flickered within them.

Something not human.

The sea roared.

The wind howled.

And standing on that ship, far from the land that abandoned him…

A fallen prince took his first step toward something far greater.

A Sovereign.
