Chapter 1 - 1 The Day the World Changed

The sky had always been the same.

A dull, polluted gray stretched endlessly over the sprawling megacity of Aetherion District-9, its towering structures piercing into the clouds like rusted blades. Neon lights flickered even during the day, advertisements layered over one another in a chaotic attempt to seize attention. The hum of drones, vehicles, and machinery never ceased.

It was a world that had long abandoned nature.

And yet, on this day… the sky changed.

Kael Adam stood on the rooftop of a crumbling apartment block, his hands tucked into his jacket pockets as he stared upward. His dark hair was tousled by the cold wind, and his sharp eyes reflected the strange phenomenon unfolding above.

"Something's wrong…" he muttered.

At first, it had been subtle.

A ripple.

Like water disturbed by an unseen force.

Then the clouds began to twist.

Not drift twist.

The gray mass spiraled unnaturally, forming a massive vortex that swallowed the skyline in an eerie silence. The usual city noise dimmed, as if reality itself was holding its breath.

Kael's heart began to pound.

This wasn't normal.

This wasn't weather.

This was… something else.

A sudden vibration pulsed through the air.

BOOM.

The sound wasn't loud it was deep. Resonant. Like it came from everywhere at once.

Kael staggered slightly, his vision blurring for a split second.

And then

A voice.

Not heard.

Felt.

"Reinitialization… complete."

Kael froze.

"What…?" His breath caught.

The voice wasn't outside.

It was inside his head.

Before he could process it further, a blinding light erupted from the vortex above. Beams of golden radiance shot downward, piercing through buildings, streets, and people alike.

One of them struck Kael directly.

Pain.

Pure, overwhelming pain.

It felt like his entire body was being torn apart and rebuilt at the same time. Every cell screamed as something foreign surged through him.

Kael dropped to his knees, clutching his chest.

"Ghh—!"

His vision flickered between reality and something… else.

Endless space.

Shattered stars.

An ocean of flowing energy stretching beyond comprehension.

And within it…

A presence.

Ancient.

Boundless.

Watching.

Then everything went dark.

Kael awoke to chaos.

Sirens blared across the city. Smoke rose in the distance, and screams echoed from the streets below.

He groaned, pushing himself up from the rooftop. His body felt… strange.

Lighter.

Stronger.

But also unstable, as if something inside him was shifting.

"What the hell happened…?"

His gaze snapped upward.

The vortex was gone.

The sky

Clear.

Perfectly clear.

For the first time in his life, Kael saw a pure blue sky.

"…No way."

He stared in disbelief.

The pollution, the clouds, the gray everything had vanished as if it had never existed.

But the city…

The city had not survived the change so cleanly.

Explosions rang out in the distance. Buildings had partially collapsed. Fires burned in multiple sectors.

And then Kael saw something that made his blood run cold.

A creature.

It crawled out from a fractured street below, its massive body tearing through concrete like it was paper. Its skin was dark and jagged, like molten rock frozen mid-eruption. Glowing veins pulsed across its form, radiating an ominous crimson light.

Its eyes locked onto a group of fleeing civilians.

And it moved.

Fast.

Too fast.

"Run!" someone screamed.

But it was too late.

The creature lunged—

And tore through them.

Kael's fists clenched.

"What… is that thing…?"

"System initializing."

The voice returned.

Kael stiffened.

"…Again?"

This time, it was clearer.

Sharper.

And accompanied by something new.

A translucent interface flickered into existence before his eyes.

[Welcome, Host.]

[God-Tier Cultivation System successfully bound.]

Kael blinked.

"…What?"

He reached out instinctively, his hand passing through the floating text.

"This… is real?"

[Host has been selected as a Prime Candidate.]

[Beginning initial assessment…]

Before Kael could react, a surge of information flooded his mind.

Not memories.

Not exactly.

More like… knowledge.

Fragments of understanding about something called cultivation.

Energy.

Power.

Evolution.

Kael gasped, clutching his head.

"Stop—!"

[Assessment complete.]

The pain vanished instantly.

Kael dropped his hand, breathing heavily.

His eyes widened as more text appeared.

[Talent Evaluation:]

[Detected Potential: ∞]

[Classification: GOD-TIER]

Silence.

Kael stared.

"…Infinity?"

That wasn't just high.

That wasn't even measurable.

That was… impossible.

[First Mission Assigned:]

[Survive.]

Kael let out a dry laugh.

"…Yeah. That sounds about right."

A deafening roar cut through the air.

Kael's head snapped toward the street below.

The creature had finished its slaughter.

And now…

It was looking at him.

"…Crap."

Their eyes met.

For a brief moment, the world seemed to freeze.

Then the creature crouched

And leapt.

It soared upward, clearing multiple floors in a single bound.

Kael's instincts screamed.

Move.

But his body hesitated for just a fraction too long.

The creature's claw came crashing down.

BOOM.

The rooftop shattered.

Kael barely rolled out of the way, chunks of concrete flying past him. The impact alone sent shockwaves through the structure.

"Too fast…!"

He scrambled to his feet, his heart racing.

The creature turned toward him, its glowing veins pulsing brighter.

Kael took a step back.

"I'm dead…" he whispered.

He had no weapon.

No training.

No chance.

[Would you like to begin cultivation?]

Kael froze.

"…What?"

[Warning: Survival probability without cultivation: 0.3%]

[Survival probability with cultivation: 17.8%]

"…That's still terrible," Kael muttered. The creature lunged again. No more time. "…Do it."

[Initializing cultivation.]

Everything changed. Kael felt it instantly. The air. The space around him.

It wasn't empty anymore. It was… filled. Filled with something he couldn't see but could now feel.

Energy.

Everywhere.

Flowing.

Waiting.

"Is this…?"

[Heaven and Earth Origin Energy detected.]

Kael didn't understand the name. But his body did.

Without thinking, he inhaled sharply. And the energy responded. It surged toward him. Violently.

The creature's claw was inches from his face. When Kael moved. Faster than before. Not enough to dodge completely. But enough.

The claw grazed his shoulder instead of tearing through his skull. "Ghh!"

Blood splattered, but Kael didn't stop. He jumped back, his eyes wide with shock. "I… moved?"

[First circulation successful.]

[Cultivation Stage: Initiate Realm – 1st Layer]

Kael stared at his hands. They were trembling. Not from fear. From power. "…This is insane."

The creature roared again, clearly irritated. It charged. This time, Kael didn't freeze. He focused.

He felt the energy again flowing through him, around him. He reached for it. Pulled it in. The world slowed. Not literally. But in his perception.

Every movement became clearer. Predictable. The creature swung. Kael sidestepped. Barely but cleanly. "…I can see it."

A grin slowly spread across his face. Not out of confidence. But realization. "This… is my chance."

The creature attacked again. And again. Each time, Kael moved. Awkward at first. Then smoother. More controlled.

[Combat adaptation detected.]

[Comprehension increasing…]

Kael ducked under a claw, his breath steadying.

He wasn't winning. Not even close. But he wasn't dying anymore. And that alone changed everything.

"Alright…" he muttered, wiping blood from his lip. "Let's see how far this 'God-Tier' thing goes."

The creature roared and Kael stepped forward. For the first time since the world changed…

He chose to fight. High above the city, unseen by all

The sky flickered once more. A faint crack appeared in reality itself. And from beyond it…

Something watched. Kael knew nothing of it. Not yet. But his journey had begun. And the world…

Would never be the same again.
