Gran suggested the Saiyans of Universe 6 primarily because they were a race of pure-hearted and righteous warriors.
Compared to the Saiyans of Universe 7, those in Universe 6 undoubtedly possessed far more S-Cells, making it much easier for them to achieve the Super Saiyan transformation.
He couldn't help but think of the two female Saiyans from the Tournament of Power—Kale and Caulifla.
Their talent was nothing short of terrifying. In the brief time from their recruitment to the middle of the tournament, they had managed to reach Super Saiyan 2 and even trade blows with Goku. Once they fused, they had briefly dominated him.
Of course, at this point in time, Caulifla and Kale might not even be born yet. However, the Saiyan race was inherently formidable, and no one knew if Universe 6 harbored even more terrifying Saiyans in this era.
"Saiyans?" the group exclaimed in surprise.
"Exactly. I am a Saiyan myself, so I know exactly how frightening my race can be," Gran said with a nod.
"According to what Whis told me, Universe 7 and Universe 6 are twin universes. Logically, Universe 6 should also have a Saiyan race. Lord Champa, it might be worth your while to look into them."
In truth, Gran also wanted to recommend Hit, but Hit's reputation as a legendary assassin was likely already known to Champa and Vados. Besides, since Gran had never actually visited Universe 6, he couldn't just casually mention Hit by name without raising suspicion. He added a quick disclaimer: "Of course, this is just a suggestion. You should pick whoever fits best!"
"Vados!" Champa barked, wrenching himself free from Beerus's grip. He turned to his elegant Angel. "Check the status of the Saiyan race in our universe immediately!"
Vados complied, her eyes fixed on the crystal orb atop her staff. As she searched, the other gods stared at Gran with peculiar expressions. If this kid was any indication of the race's potential, the Saiyans were indeed a force to be reckoned with. Whis glanced at Beerus, a subtle smirk playing on his lips. Universe 7 used to have plenty of Saiyans, but under Beerus's orders, Frieza had wiped them out along with Planet Vegeta.
"What are you smirking at?" Beerus snapped, knowing exactly what Whis was thinking. "It's not like every Saiyan is a freak like Gran or that Kakarot guy. The Saiyans of Universe 7 were a bunch of bloodthirsty thugs. What was I supposed to do, keep them around for a New Year's party?"
"Lord Beerus, isn't Frieza also bloodthirsty and evil? Why haven't you destroyed him yet?" Gran interjected teasingly.
Whis joined in on the banter. "Why else? Frieza never annoyed him, whereas the King of the Saiyans just happened to get on his nerves."
Beerus rolled his eyes. High talent or not, if you offended the strongest being in the universe, you didn't get to live. A God of Destruction had to maintain his dignity, after all.
"Lord Champa, I've found them," Vados announced, looking at her staff.
"We do indeed have a Saiyan race. They reside on Planet Sadala and have formed the Sadala Defense Forces to maintain order in the universe. Their reputation is actually quite stellar."
Shin was visibly shocked. The Saiyans of his universe certainly didn't share that kind of resume. Beerus and the Old Kai, however, seemed to have expected this. While twin universes share many similarities, many of their elements are mirrors or opposites of one another.
"So, how's their strength?" Champa asked excitedly. If he could find a prodigy like Gran, he'd be set. Everyone leaned in, Gran included.
"Well..." Vados frowned at the crystal. "Judging by their combat displays, their power isn't exactly impressive."
In her observation, the elite Saiyans of Universe 6 had power levels in the hundreds of millions. Compared to Gran, it was a joke. What she didn't realize was that this was only their base power. If they achieved Super Saiyan 2, their power would jump into the tens of billions. With Super Saiyan 3, they would break the hundred-billion mark.
Champa stared at Gran, his expression sour. I sparred with you and helped you break your bottleneck, and this is how you repay me? By recommending weaklings?
"Lord Champa, our race can transform!" To prove his point, Gran suddenly erupted into his Super Saiyan state. While it was nothing compared to his Ultra Instinct Omen, the explosive increase in raw power was undeniable.
However, in the eyes of Champa and Vados, this appeared to be a "deviant" or unorthodox transformation. Just as Vados was about to speak, Whis stepped forward.
"Sister, do you remember the story our Father once told us?" Whis said meaningfully. "He said that everything in the multiverse exists for a reason. If it exists, it is justified."
The story? Gran and Beerus knew Whis was referring to the legend of the Saiyan ancestor, Adonis. Champa was lost, but Vados paused, her expression shifting rapidly as a memory resurfaced. Her face went pale.
"Vados? What's wrong?" Champa asked, blinking.
"Lord Champa, we're leaving! Now!" Without waiting for a response, Vados grabbed Champa and vanished in a streak of light.
The group was left in stunned silence. "Well, they left in a hurry," someone muttered. Beerus, in particular, looked disappointed; he had been planning to suggest that Champa's candidate and Gran team up.
Once they were gone, Beerus looked at Gran, looking like he wanted to say something but was struggling to find the words. "So... um..."
"Is something wrong, Lord Beerus?" Gran asked.
Beerus fidgeted, his eyes darting around awkwardly. "The Omni-King said there's only punishment for the bottom few. So... when the time comes, see if you can... you know... look out for that fat idiot's candidate."
This Battle Royale was basically a stage for Gran, and there were still ten years of training left. With Gran's talent, he was guaranteed to be safe. In that case, Beerus wanted Gran to lend a hand to Universe 6. After all, Champa was his brother.
"What are you staring at? If you don't want to, then forget it!" Beerus felt his face heating up and immediately turned his back, flying toward the palace. From behind, the great God of Destruction looked strangely lonely, like a grumpy old man who secretly cared too much.
"I never said I wouldn't!" Gran burst out laughing.
"That's just how he is," the Old Kai chuckled, hands behind his back. "He and Lord Champa clearly care for each other, but they'd rather die than admit it."
Whis smiled, clutching his staff. "Helping Lord Champa is fine, but if Universe 6 and 7 join forces, their candidate will likely become a target for everyone else."
"Doesn't matter. I'll just knock them all down myself," Gran said with a cocky grin. Champa was a lovable cat, and Gran felt he owed him for the breakthrough. He was more than happy to help.
"My, how bold. It seems you're really looking forward to this war," Whis said, patting Gran's head affectionately.
"I am! Fighting Lord Champa was the most fun I've had in years. I can't wait!"
"Good. Now go tell Lord Beerus that you've agreed to watch over Universe 6 before he sulks for a century."
"On it!"
Meanwhile, in a Transport Cube hurtling toward Universe 6, Champa was still confused. "Why the rush? Did something happen?"
"Lord Champa, the Saiyan race has a significant history!"
"What does that mean?"
Vados struggled to contain her excitement. "My Father once told me that in the primordial era, a Saiyan once challenged the Omni-King himself!"
"WHAT?!!" Champa yelled, as the cube's speed suddenly surged.
In the Destroyer Realm of Universe 4, Quitela had been back for some time.
"AAAAAUGH! THE PAIN!"
Quitela rolled around on the grass, the agony in his soul and body making life a living hell. "Curse it! It's not like I attacked a Supreme Kai! This kind of thing happens in other universes all the time! Why did Zen-Oh pick me to make an example of? I won't accept this!"
The double trauma would likely haunt him for a hundred million years unless he found a way to heal.
"Cognic, isn't there any way to fix this?" Quitela gasped, struggling to stand.
"Lord Quitela, your wounds were inflicted by the Omni-King. I have no power to heal them," Cognic said, pausing. "Wait... there might be one way."
"What is it?"
"The Super Dragon Balls!" Cognic looked toward the border of Universes 6 and 7.
"Super Dragon Balls? ...Wait, why the face? Tell me!"
Cognic sighed. "The Super Dragon Balls are the creation of Zalama. There are seven in total. If gathered, they summon a Super Shenron that can grant almost any wish. Healing you would be child's play for it."
Quitela's pain seemed to vanish, replaced by mania. "Where are they? Take me to them!"
Cognic remained silent. The balls were in Universes 6 and 7. Quitela had just sent an assassin to kill Beerus's student; there was no way Beerus would ever lend them to him.
"Cognic, you can't just watch me suffer! Tell me where they are! No matter how hard they are to find—"
"Lord Quitela, they only exist in Universes 6 and 7. How do you plan to get them?"
The news hit Quitela like a bolt from the blue. He staggered. Given what he'd done, even if Champa were willing, Beerus would never agree. Steal them? His power had dropped to Stage 6; he couldn't even beat Beerus at his best, let alone now.
"Curse it! Why does that damn Beerus have all the good things?!" Quitela screamed.
After he calmed down, Cognic changed the subject. "We should focus on the candidate. Oma is dead, which means the candidate from Universe 7 survived. Zen-Oh likely organized this tournament to vent his boredom, and you just happened to be the one he took it out on. Regardless, you need to find a new candidate."
Quitela ground his teeth, glancing toward Universe 7. Super Dragon Balls... I will have them.
As the news of the meeting spread, most gods remained in the dark about the tournament's true purpose. They simply assumed Zen-Oh wanted some entertainment. Every universe began to move.
Ten years was a short window. Training a child from scratch was impossible, so they sought out the strongest warriors in their respective realms.
A month passed. Universe 9 recruited two warriors from Stage 2 of the Divine Realm. Universe 4 recruited four warriors from Stage 3. Universe 10 recruited three warriors from Stage 3.
These universes were training multiple candidates at once, planning to pick the strongest for the final battle.
Another month passed. Universes 1, 12, 5, and 8 selected their candidates but kept them shrouded in mystery.
Universe 11 saw action as well. Despite already having Toppo, Belmod reportedly recruited a second candidate—the absolute strongest warrior in his universe.
Meanwhile, Universe 6 went to extremes. Champa recruited twenty candidates at once. Two-thirds were Saiyans, but there was also a high-profile assassin among them.
