Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Censor’s Awakening

The air in the Grand Hall of Seoul's Awakening Center was thick with the smell of ozone and desperate hope. Thousands of eyes were glued to the massive quartz monolith at the center of the stage.

"Class: Sun-Walker. Rank: S!"

the announcer bellowed. The crowd roared as a girl bathed in golden light was ushered off-stage like a goddess.

Kaizer—Kai to the few people who still bothered to speak to him—wiped the sweat from his palms. In this world, your Class was your currency. If you weren't a Slayer or a Mage, you were just background noise for someone else's highlight reel.

"Next," a mechanical voice echoed. "Candidate 4092. Kaizer Thorne."

Kai stepped up. The quartz monolith felt freezing as he pressed his hand against it. A familiar blue interface flickered into existence, visible only to him at first.

A sharp, stabbing pain erupted behind Kai's eyes. He gasped, leaning into the stone. Suddenly, the world didn't look right. The polished marble floor was suddenly covered in flickering strings of binary; the high-ranking officials in the VIP box were shrouded in dark, blurred static.

Then, the monolith shrieked. A notification box turned a violent, bruised purple.

[Awakening Complete.]

[Class: Censor (Unique/Non-Combat)]

[Current Clout: 0]

[Passive Skill: 'The Editor's Sight' (Rank: Unknown) — You see the Lore that the System has redacted.]

The announcer looked at the screen and let out a short, mocking puff of air. "Kaizer Thorne. Class: Censor. Rank: F. Please exit to the left to collect your civilian ID."

The crowd erupted—not in cheers, but in laughter.

"A Censor? What's he going to do, bleep out the monsters while they eat him?"

"F-rank trash. Next!"

Kai didn't move. He wasn't looking at the crowd. He was looking at the High-Ranker sitting in the center of the VIP box—Commander Vane, the 'Hero of the 10th Floor.'

To everyone else, Vane was a shimmering warrior in silver armor. But through Kai's new eyes, a massive, flickering black box covered Vane's chest.

Kai squinted, focusing his 'Clout' on that darkness. The black box stuttered and peeled back like a scab.

[REDACTED LORE DETECTED]

[Subject: Commander Vane]

[True Title: The Butcher of Orphans]

[Secret: Vane did not clear the 10th Floor. He sacrificed 400 'F-Rank' civilians to the Floor Boss to buy his own life.]

Kai's breath hitched. A cold shiver raced down his spine.

"Candidate 4092, leave the stage immediately," the guard growled, reaching for Kai's shoulder.

At that moment, a second notification popped up, glowing with a predatory gold light.

[System Alert: The world is bored of 'Heroes.']

[New Quest: Start your first Live Stream.]

[Objective: Expose a 'High-Rank' Truth.]

[Reward: 1,000 Truth Points / Unlock 'Manual Redaction'.]

Kai looked at the guard, then back at the 'Hero' sitting smugly above them all. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his cracked smartphone. With a trembling finger, he hit the [Go Live] button on the Tower's global streaming app.

The title of his stream: "THE HEROES ARE A LIE: WATCH ME PROVE IT."

"I'm not leaving," Kai whispered, his voice catching the mic.

On the screen of his phone, the viewer count flickered from 0 to 1.

The Censor had begun his work.
