Jean's POV
I needed to leave now if I truly wanted to keep Shawn safe, because if my parents realized I was constantly around him, they would start questioning who he was, and that could lead them straight to him.
But even knowing that, I couldn't bring myself to leave him like this.
He looked calmer than before, but I could still tell he was far from okay. The exhaustion in him was obvious. So was the fear underneath it all, even if he was trying to keep it under control.
He lay there quietly, covering himself, but instead of sleeping he kept looking at me like he still couldn't fully believe I was there.
"Are you going to be okay?" I asked softly even though I already knew how pointless that question sounded.
Of course he wasn't okay.
How could he be after everything that had happened? After hurting people in a way he clearly never wanted to. And judging from everything he had told me, he was probably terrified it could happen again at any moment.
