Lin Ye jolted awake, gasping for breath. His face was pale, beads of sweat the size of beans covering his forehead. His right hand instinctively clutched at his chest, fingers digging in hard.
The muzzle. The bullet. The flowing blood. The sharp metallic smell in the air. The agony of the wound and the life draining out of him.
Lin Ye could still distinctly feel that cold touch of death clinging to his body.
He had died.
That was what death felt like.
"A-are you… okay?"
The black-haired girl in the seat to his left looked at him in confusion. After hesitating a moment at his sudden change, she finally asked.
It took Lin Ye a while to come back to himself.
Just as he turned his head, the girl spoke again.
"Miss attendant, this classmate doesn't seem well. He needs help."
The flight attendant in the black uniform noticed at once and hurried over.
One glance was enough for her to see Lin Ye's pale face and cold sweat. The hand pressed over his chest made her think of something immediately.
"Sir, how are you feeling right now? Is it something related to your heart? We have quick-acting heart medication on board. I'll go get it right away."
"N-no need. I'm… fine now."
He raised a hand and waved her off.
The attendant was unconvinced, but seeing how firm he was, she stopped insisting.
"If you start feeling unwell again, please let us know right away."
"Okay."
After the attendant left, Lin Ye closed his eyes and took a deep breath, forcing his violently pounding heart to calm down.
He had died. He had been shot dead. That had absolutely not been a dream.
