Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Isabella felt her chest tighten as the memories came, one after another, like sharp blades.

She remembered every single doctor's appointment.

Every cautious look from the specialists.

Every time she held a negative test with trembling hands.

And most of all…

How Ricardo was always by her side.

Always patient.

Always understanding.

"It's not your fault, love."

"We'll try again."

"I'm here with you."

The words echoed in her mind.

And for the first time…

They felt wrong.

Fake.

A strange feeling began to grow inside her.

Small at first.

But unsettling.

Persistent.

What if…

Isabella frowned, trying to push the thought away.

But it came back.

Stronger.

What if the problem had never been her?

It didn't make sense.

All the tests had pointed to difficulties.

Never a clear answer.

Never a definite cause.

Always inconclusive.

She swallowed hard.

What if something had been… hidden?

"No…" she whispered to herself.

That was crazy.

She was just shaken.

Confused.

Hurt.

It was normal to think irrational things after what she had just discovered.

But still…

The doubt didn't go away.

The next morning, Isabella woke up with swollen eyes and a heavy body.

She had barely slept.

The image of Ricardo with another woman still burned in her mind.

She didn't hesitate.

She needed answers.

Without telling Ricardo.

Without giving any explanation.

She went straight to a clinic.

Hours later, she was sitting in front of a doctor, her hands clasped together, her heart racing.

"Mrs. Isabella… your tests are completely normal," he said.

She blinked, confused.

"Normal?"

"Yes. There are no issues preventing a healthy pregnancy."

The world seemed to go silent.

"Are you sure…?" she asked, almost voiceless.

"Absolutely."

Isabella went still.

So…

All those years…

All those attempts…

The problem wasn't her.

A strange feeling spread through her body.

Relief… mixed with something much darker.

Discomfort.

Confusion.

She left the office without saying much.

Her mind was far away.

Something didn't add up.

Nothing made sense.

When she got home, the silence greeted her like a weight.

That house…

Once a home…

Now felt чуж estranho. Cold.

Isabella slowly placed her bag on the couch.

Her eyes scanned the room.

Every corner carried memories.

Lies.

She took a deep breath.

"No… something is wrong…"

Her steps led her to the kitchen.

She opened cabinets.

Nothing.

The fridge.

Nothing.

She ran a hand through her hair, nervous.

Then she stopped.

Thought.

Ricardo always insisted on preparing drinks for her.

Teas.

Juices.

Vitamins.

He said it helped her relax.

Her stomach twisted.

Isabella walked to the bedroom.

She opened his drawer.

Ties.

Watches.

Perfumes.

Nothing.

Another drawer.

Documents.

Papers.

Then…

She found a small envelope hidden in the back.

Her heart started pounding.

With trembling hands, she opened it.

And the world stopped.

Inside were several packs of birth control pills.

Some empty.

Some half-used.

All opened.

All used.

Isabella's breath caught.

"No…" she whispered.

But there was more.

Much more.

She pulled out the rest of the contents.

Photos.

Printed messages.

Conversations.

Dates.

Four years.

Four years of betrayal.

Four years of lies.

Photos of Ricardo with another woman.

With Camila Albuquerque.

Trips.

Restaurants.

Intimate moments.

Everything documented.

Everything kept.

As if it were… normal.

As if she didn't exist.

Isabella's hands began to shake violently.

The envelope fell to the floor.

"Four years…" her voice broke.

Four years being deceived.

Four years living a lie.

And at the same time…

Four years being prevented from becoming a mother.

Her gaze returned to the pills.

Birth control.

He gave this to her.

Without her knowing.

Without her consent.

The man who promised to love her…

Had violated her trust in the cruelest way possible.

A wave of nausea hit her.

Isabella ran to the bathroom and braced herself against the sink, gasping for air.

Tears fell uncontrollably.

But this time…

It wasn't just pain.

It was anger.

Cold.

Deep. Dangerous anger.

Slowly, she lifted her face and looked at herself in the mirror.

The woman staring back at her…

Was no longer the same.

"You destroyed me…" she whispered.

Her eyes hardened.

"But you won't break me."

Isabella walked back to the bedroom with steady steps.

She picked up the envelope.

The evidence.

Everything.

She wouldn't leave that house empty-handed.

Not anymore.

Ricardo Ferraz thought he could control her.

Thought she would never find out.

Thought she would always be weak.

A mistake.

A big mistake.

Because at that moment…

Something inside Isabella Duarte had changed forever.

And this time…

She wouldn't be the victim.

She would be the woman who destroys everything he built.
