Synopsis
When Aria Wynter's father loses everything overnight, she walks through the doors of Ashford Industries looking for work and comes face to face with Clark Ashford. Cold, powerful and devastatingly handsome, he doesn't just offer her a job. He offers her a contract marriage. And Aria, with her family drowning in debt, has no choice but to sign. But Clark's marriage is not a love story. It is a revenge plot. Convinced that Aria's family destroyed the people he loved most, Clark makes her life behind their mansion's gilded walls a quiet living nightmare. What he doesn't know is that Aria Wynter does not break easily. Silently and relentlessly, she begins to dig for the truth and what she uncovers changes everything. The real enemy was never Aria's family. Every tragedy, every lie, every carefully placed accusation was orchestrated by one man hiding in plain sight a man Clark trusted with his life. As the full weight of the betrayal crashes down, unlikely alliances are formed, buried secrets rise to the surface and two people who were never supposed to fall in love find themselves standing at the edge of something they cannot take back. When their three year contract expires, Aria makes one final demand before she walks away forever. One genuine night. No pretense. No armor. Then she leaves taking the truth, her dignity and a secret she carries silently inside her. What Clark doesn't know yet is that the girl who once saved him from drowning as a child was Aria herself. It was always her. Now he has lost her twice. And this time, winning her back may cost him everything.

Chapter 1 - Job interview

Aria's POV

I gasped for air, my lungs burning as I thrashed through the dark, murky water. I was drowning, the weight of the world crushing me. I tried to scream, but water flooded my mouth.

Just as all hope seemed lost, a hand reached out, grasping mine. I was being pulled upwards, towards the surface...

I jolted awake, my heart racing, sheets tangled around me.

The dream again. It had been years, but the fear still lingered. The clock on my bedside read 6am. I took a deep breath, trying to shake off the remnants of the nightmare

The sound of my room door creaking brought me back to reality. It was my mother, who seems to have come to check if I was already awake and to remind me about my interview.

"Wake up sleepyhead" she said teasingly as she tugged on my duvet."You have an interview," she said before leaving my room, and I replied that I was aware, obviously.

"This interview with Ashford holdings will be the best thing that will happen to my family and me," I thought to myself as I looked at the clock on my bedside before standing up from my bed to take my bath.

As I was walking to the bathroom, I looked at the mirror and something caught my attention.....obviously it was ME.

Wow! I admired myself in front of the mirror. I was looking as pretty as always.

Hi, I'm Aria Wynter. I'm 23 years old and the only child of my parents. Life has not always been like this, my parents were rich.

We once attended big balls and galas, but things took a drastic turn when my dad's company Wynter Corporation Limited, by name started to go bankrupt and we couldn't save it.

But apart from that…..Well, it's not like I'm being boastful or something; it's just that everybody says I'm uniquely beautiful.

I have long wavy chestnut-brown hair with striking Emerald eyes and a kind of small face – which fitted me though.

But the main thing that drives people crazy is my shape. Yeah, even my mum tells me I've got the best shape. My bum is very big and my chest is– big and firm. My waist is slim and narrowed down to my big bum, giving it a perfect figure 8 –as they call it.

I quickly rushed to the bathroom as I remembered my interview. I'm really excited!

After bathing, I went to the wardrobe to get my wear. After putting on the dashing office wear which was an office white shirt and a black skirt, I went for my black stiletto and brushed my chestnut-brown hair while looking at the mirror.

I let the hair fall freely on my shoulders and applied a light brown lipstick on my lips.

I hurriedly came downstairs to grab breakfast before leaving..Before I saw my dad reading through the morning newspapers.

"Good morning dad" I said as I pecked him on his cheek.

This man deserves a lot, he has really suffered since his company started to go bankrupt because of some external and internal forces. But that's all in the past now.

"Are u leaving already? Make sure to grab breakfast before leaving. I don't want my muffin to fall sick" he said chuckling while pulling down his glasses to the bridge of his nose.

"Yeah. I will make sure to do....." I was about to complete my sentence before I heard the doorbell.

As I opened it and heard a squeal, I needed no sage to tell me that it was my best friend- Naomi.

In case if u are wondering how she came about, Naomi has been my best friend right from middle school, she is curvy-but not like me.

Seriously, I'm not boasting.

"Aria!" She screamed immediately and I flinched.

What the heck is wrong with her?"Oh, my gee! Don't tell me you're still planning on eating.

Are you for real?" She beamed and I placed my hand on my forehead.

I have seriously forgotten how hyperactive this girl is.

"Okay I'm coming let me grab my bag" I said, before retreating swiftly to get my bag from the dining table and also to tell my parents that I'm off for my interview.

Naomi and I boarded a taxi which would take her to her workplace before taking me to the venue of my interview.

While we were in the taxi, Naomi made sure that I wasn't bored, with her continuous gist.Seems like I forgot to say how much of a chatterbox she is.

"Anthony and I broke up yesterday" Naomi finally said, I was really shocked.

How come he broke up with her when he was literally the one cheating on her?

Seriously, some men have some kind of nerves.

"Who will want to break a kind heart like yours" I told her as I patted her at her back. Naomi is really a strong girl. She continued to gist me not minding what she told me about before she alighted at her place of work.

She worked as a waitress in a coffee shop. And this is part of the reason why I'm single. Men of this time don't know how to respect women, they just go about toying with our feelings and trust me they don't seriously give a f*ck.

As I looked out of the taxi window looking at the luxurious skyscrapers of the city and some of Ashford's holdings billboard rating them as the number 1, I thought of how life would be if I finally got to work as a secretary for Ashford's holdings.

I will definitely get to start for my mom her own coffee shop and Naomi will come work for us. And be able to take good care of both my mom and dad.

Then I looked and noticed that we were not moving.

Gosh!

Why should there be traffic, today of all mornings? I hope this isn't a hint of how bad today will be.

I would have shouted but I know that it isn't the driver's fault.

"I'm definitely going to be late for my interview" I softly said to myself before resting my head on the window.

The traffic lasted for another 15 minutes before the vehicles started to move. I sighed a sigh of relief, knowing fully well that I was late.

Finally, the taxi came to a stop at the almighty Ashford holdings.
