Ivy's pov
I left Nicholas's room without another word. It wasn't like I had anything left to say anyway. His voice still lingered in my head, cold and unshaken, wrapping itself around my thoughts no matter how hard I tried to escape it.
This house is your cage Ivy, and I am the one keeping you inside it.
Of course I already knew this place was a prison. I had known it from the moment he dragged me through those gates and shut the world behind me.
But hearing him admit it so plainly felt different somehow.
I slowed slightly as I walked through the dim corridor, my fingers curling against the fabric of my dress.
The memory of the way Nicholas had snatched the picture from my hands replayed vividly in my mind. For one brief second, he had looked shaken. Truly shaken.
I had messed up badly. Touching that photograph had probably ruined whatever small chance I had of convincing him to release Seraphina anytime soon.
