Chapter 1 - Rural Women Fight For Water.

In a small drought-prone village, the sun rose each day over dry fields and empty pots. For the women of the village, mornings didn't begin with breakfast—they began with a long walk.

Lakshmi, a mother of two, would wake before dawn, balancing a metal pot on her hip. Along with other women—Meena, Savitri, and Asha—she walked nearly 5 kilometers to the nearest water source. The path was rocky, the heat unforgiving, and the water often muddy. Still, they had no choice.

"Water is life," Lakshmi would say, "but for us, it is also a daily battle."

One summer, the situation worsened. The well they depended on dried up completely. The women now had to walk even farther, sometimes returning home empty-handed. Children missed school, families struggled, and tensions grew.

But instead of giving up, the women decided to fight—not with anger, but with unity.

They formed a group and approached the village council. At first, their voices were ignored. "This is how it has always been," the elders said. But the women didn't stop. They organized meetings, spoke to local officials, and even traveled to the nearby town to file a formal complaint.

Days turned into weeks, but their determination never faded.

Finally, their efforts paid off. With help from a government scheme, a borewell was installed in the village. Clean water began flowing just a few steps from their homes.

The change was immediate and powerful. Children returned to school, families had more time, and the women—once burdened by endless walks—stood proud.

Their fight was not just for water. It was for dignity, equality, and a better future.

And every drop that flowed from the new tap was a reminder: when women come together, even the hardest battles can be won.
