Chapter 3 - The Secret Defenders.

He nodded, struggling to keep his legs moving. The glowing warship hovered above the city, casting a massive shadow that swallowed the streets below. Its surface shimmered with strange energy lines, like the veins of some massive creature.

Noah appeared beside them, his face pale but determined.

"Come on! This way—emergency exit!"

They rushed down the stairwell, joined by dozens of panicked office workers. Outside, the streets were chaos: cars abandoned, people running, alarms blaring, and the sky torn with streaks of violet lightning from the alien ship.

Above them, the Antigonian warship opened a hatch, and beams of red light shot down toward the city. Buildings trembled under the invisible force pulling at the ground.

"Is that… is that a tractor beam?" Alex shouted, almost in disbelief.

Leah clutched his arm tighter.

"It's pulling something… someone. Or something…"

Suddenly, a glowing red orb shot out from the ground where Alex had been sitting in the office earlier. It hovered for a moment in midair, pulsing ominously, before a beam from the ship grabbed it and lifted it skyward.

Alex's stomach dropped.

"That… that's coming from here?"

Noah's eyes narrowed as he stared at the rising orb.

"Wait… that's the Terranite Core!" he whispered, realization dawning.

The horror hit Alex like a freight train. The stories he had half-heard from science articles… legends of a power so strong it could destroy planets. And now it was being taken from Earth.

Leah looked up at the sky, her voice trembling. "They… they're taking it. Our world…"

A sudden vibration shook the ground beneath them. The air rippled, and distant buildings cracked under the stress of the alien energy.

Alex clenched his fists. "We… we have to stop them. We can't just let them take it!"

Noah grabbed his shoulder.

"Alex… do you even know how? That's not just an alien ship… that's… I don't even know… military-level, interstellar tech. We're not ready for this."

Alex's eyes burned with determination. "I… I do know how," he said, voice shaking with both fear and resolve.

Noah and Leah exchanged a confused glance.

"What… what do you mean?"

Leah asked, her voice barely audible over the distant hum of the alien warship.

Alex took a deep breath, glancing back at the glowing red beam disappearing into the Antigonian vessel.

"There's… something I've never told anyone. Something my parents left for me. I think… I think it's time you both know."

Noah frowned.

"Alex, what are you talking about?"

Alex's hand moved to a small pendant around his neck, a silver disk engraved with strange symbols.

"Follow me. Quickly."

Before either of them could protest, Alex darted down a side street, Leah and Noah close behind. The city around them was chaos—cars overturned, people screaming, and the ground trembling with the energy of the Antigonian ship above.

After several minutes of running, Alex stopped in front of an inconspicuous warehouse tucked between towering skyscrapers. The building looked abandoned, covered in graffiti and dust. He pressed a hidden panel near the door, and with a soft hiss, a massive steel door slid open, revealing a sleek, high-tech interior.

Inside, the room glowed with blue light. Computers, holographic maps, and advanced weaponry lined the walls. Vehicles hovered silently on magnetic pads. It was unlike anything Leah or Noah had ever seen.

"Welcome… to my secret base," Alex said quietly, his voice heavy with the weight of years of secrecy.

Leah's mouth fell open.

"This… this is… incredible!"

Noah's jaw dropped.

"Alex… you're… what? A spy? Some kind of secret agent?"

Alex shook his head.

"Not exactly… My parents weren't normal humans. They were scientists… working on technology that could protect Earth from threats like this." He paused, glancing at the glowing map of the Antigonian ship projected in midair. "And now… that threat is here."

Leah stepped closer, concern in her eyes. "Alex… you knew all this, and you never told anyone?"

Before Alex could respond, a soft hum echoed through the base, followed by a series of mechanical doors sliding open. From the shadows, figures began to emerge, moving with precision and purpose.

Leah and Noah's jaws dropped as thirty people appeared—each wearing advanced tactical suits, their faces partially concealed by sleek visors. They carried weapons that seemed both futuristic and familiar, and their movements were synchronized, like a perfectly rehearsed unit.

One of them, a tall woman with silver hair streaked with violet, stepped forward. Her voice was calm but commanding.

"Alex. We received the alert. Situation confirmed. Antigonian forces detected above the city."

Alex's eyes met hers.

"Commander Lyra… everyone's here?"

Lyra nodded.

"All thirty operatives. Ready for deployment. We've trained for this moment. The Terranite Core cannot leave Earth under any circumstances."

Another operative, a stocky man with cybernetic implants visible along his arms, chimed in.

"We've been monitoring the Antigonian ship for hours. Its shields are strong, but not invincible. If we coordinate, we can intercept the Core before it reaches orbit."

Noah's eyes widened.

"Wait… thirty people? All of you? And… you're just… hiding here?"

Alex gave a small, tense smile.

"This base has been off the grid for decades. My parents built it as a failsafe in case something like this ever happened. I trained with them, and these… these are the people who've been waiting for the call."

Leah glanced around the room, overwhelmed.

"Thirty people… and all this technology… this is… amazing. How did I not know this even existed?"

Commander Lyra's visor reflected the glowing holographic map of the Antigonian ship above the city.

"No one outside the team was meant to know—until now. The threat is imminent. We move in twenty minutes. Alex, you'll pilot the interceptor craft. The rest of us will secure key positions and provide support. Leah, Noah… you'll be embedded in tactical operations with me. Can you handle that?"

Leah swallowed hard, her jaw tight with determination.

"I… I'll do whatever it takes."

Noah cracked his knuckles nervously, trying to mask his fear with bravado.

"Guess I'm in too. Don't get us killed, Alex."

Alex nodded firmly.

"We won't fail. Not tonight. Not while Earth still stands."

The thirty operatives began to organize, checking weapons, activating holographic displays, and confirming positions. The base buzzed with energy—calm, focused, deadly energy.

Outside, the Antigonian warship pulsed ominously in the sky, oblivious to the secret army preparing beneath it. Thirty people, one mission, and the fate of the planet hanging in the balance.

Alex took a deep breath, gripping the controls of his interceptor craft. His eyes met Leah and Noah's.

"This is it. Let's show them that Earth fights back."

The team nodded in unison, a silent promise passing between them.
