The silence that followed the kiss was a living thing, heavy with the scent of the sea and the frantic, uneven rhythm of Robert's heart. He remained hovered over her, his hands braced on the mattress, his arms shaking from the sheer exertion of trying to reconcile his scientific mind with the primal explosion that had just occurred in his nervous system.
"What... what is your name? I'm Robert." Robert managed to rasp out, his voice sounding like it was being dragged over gravel.
The creature looked up at him, her indigo eyes shimmering with a light that seemed to come from miles beneath the ocean's surface. She brushed a stray, damp lock of hair from her cheek, her movements fluid and hauntingly beautiful.
