Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Testing

ollowing the booming, stern orientation delivered by Awakened Rock, the crowd of Sleepers dispersed into the heart of the Academy. Blaze navigated the pristine, labyrinthine hallways until he reached the door assigned to him.

As he stepped inside, the door hissed shut with a soft, mechanical click, sealing out the noise of the bustling compound. Blaze paused, taking in the sight. The room was the definition of clean and neat—a stark, jarring contrast to the blood-stained wood of the Vanguard and the rotting stench of the enemy brig.

The accommodations were far better than anything an "outskirt rat" could have dreamed of. It featured a sturdy bed topped with a remarkably soft mattress, a polished writing table, a dresser for his new gear, and even a private, separate bathroom. Every material used in the construction was new and aesthetically pleasing; the air itself felt crisp, filtered, and sterile.

The room was bathed in a gentle warmth. One of the outer walls was equipped with a hidden, high-definition screen that seamlessly imitated a wide window. It displayed a picturesque vista of a snowy park, the digital flakes falling in a tranquil, silent loop that mimicked the world outside the fortress walls.

On the dresser sat several sets of fresh clothes, each neatly folded and embroidered with the prestigious Academy emblem. They were his to keep, provided entirely for free—a small luxury in a life that had recently been defined by scarcity and pain.

Blaze didn't bother changing yet. He walked over to the bed and collapsed onto it, the soft mattress rising up to meet him. For the first time since the Transmigration had shattered his reality, there was no immediate threat, no serpent in the dark, and no shadow of a sickle.

"Finally," he whispered into the quiet room.

He then opened his runes:

Name: Blaze

True Name: HellSlayer

Rank: Dreamer.

Soul Core: Dormant.

Soul Fragments: [20/1000].

Memories: [Greyscale Sword][Sensory Armour]

Echoes: —

Attributes: [Child of Excorsim], [Mark of Divinity], [Nephilim]

Blaze opened his New Attribute:

[Nephilim]Description:[There once were terrible creatures born of an unholy union between the divine and the profane. Nephilim were the most beautiful, and the most harrowing of them all.]

Blaze thought,'Not ominous at all.' and he looked at the runes of his ability:

Aspect: [Spirit of Vengeance].

Aspect Rank: Divine.

Aspect Abilities: [Hellfire Manipualtion].

Aspect Ability Description: [You Can Manipulate Mystical fire that can burn Souls]

Blaze sat on the edge of the pristine bed, the silence of the room amplified by the weight of his own curiosity. The echoes of the Nightmare Spell still resonated in his mind, and the heat in his chest remained a steady, pulsing coal.

Let's see what I'm actually capable of, he thought.

Focusing his intent, he visualized the orange sea from his soul. He reached for that heat and funneled it toward his right arm, stopping the flow at his wrist.

The reaction was instantaneous. A roar of orange fire erupted from his pores, enveloping his hand in a swirling vortex of heat. But as Blaze looked closer, his eyes widened in a mixture of shock and awe. The fire hadn't just coated his hand; it had transformed it. Where there should have been pale skin and muscle, there was only stark, bleached bone. His fingers were ivory phalanges, skeletal and sharp, dancing with tongues of supernatural flame. It was an image ripped straight from a nightmare—or a comic book.

"Ghost Rider?" he muttered, his voice trembling slightly. "Okay... what happens if I go all the way?"

He closed his eyes and threw the gates of his soul sea wide open. The orange fire surged, a tidal wave of heat that raced from his chest to every extremity. His skin peeled away into embers, and his muscles dissolved into spiritual energy.

When he opened his eyes and looked into the full-length mirror, a monster looked back.

He was a complete skeleton, his bones reinforced by the celestial heat of the star in his chest. His entire frame was wreathed in roaring orange flames that licked the ceiling without scorching it. Most terrifying of all was his head; a flaming skull stared back at him, the eye sockets glowing with an intense, hollow light.

"ALL OUT OF MERCY," he spoke.

The sound made him flinch. His voice was no longer human; it was a deep, guttural rasp that seemed to vibrate from the floorboards, layered with a tone of pure, unadulterated horror.

With a sharp exhale of breath he no longer technically needed, he deactivated the ability. The fire receded, and the skeleton was once again cloaked in the "mask" of flesh. He stood there, once again a young man with pale skin and messy black hair, his heart racing.

Okay, he breathed, let's test the limits of this.

After an hour of careful experimentation, he began to understand the mechanics of his new power. He could produce Hellfire at will and control it, though his movements were still crude—more like channeling a high-pressure hose than a surgeon's scalpel. He discovered he could coat his existing Memories in this fire, significantly enhancing their durability and cutting power.

He couldn't yet fuse his form with objects as he'd seen in movies, but the potential hummed in his bones. The path forward was clear.

I need to find a motorcycle, Blaze thought, a grim smile forming on his face. And a chain. I definitely need a chain-based weapon.

With a renewed sense of purpose, he turned his focus inward, beginning to sift through the details of his newly acquired Memory.
