Chapter 1 - A Glimpse Beyond Reality

Chapter 1: A Glimpse Beyond Reality

Countless spheres floated in the endless void.

Each one contained a world.

A reality.

A story.

Some burned in eternal war.

Others thrived in fragile peace.

Some were ruled by kings… and others by monsters who believed themselves to be gods.

Time had no meaning here.

Space had no limits.

And above it all—

There was something watching.

It had no form.

No voice.

No identity that any mortal mind could comprehend.

Yet its presence alone was enough to make existence itself tremble.

For what could have been an eternity… it simply observed.

World after world.

Life after life.

Birth.

Struggle.

Death.

Over and over again.

Unchanging.

Uninteresting.

Until—

One sphere caught its attention.

Not because it shined brighter than the others.

Not because it held something extraordinary.

But because…

Someone inside it was different.

The void itself seemed to shift, as if acknowledging that choice.

And in an instant—

The perspective changed.

---

The deafening sound of metal crashing against metal filled the air.

"Move it! We don't have all day!"

Dust rose into the sky as heavy machinery roared without pause. Workers shouted over one another, their voices rough, tired, and irritated.

The construction site was alive—but not in a good way.

It was loud.

Chaotic.

Exhausting.

And in the middle of it all stood a young man.

Sweat dripped down his face, tracing lines through the dust stuck to his skin. His hands were rough, his clothes worn, and his body screamed from hours of labor.

He lifted another heavy beam, his muscles tightening with effort.

"…Tch."

A quiet click of his tongue escaped him.

This again.

Same place.

Same work.

Same pointless routine.

Wake up.

Work.

Eat.

Sleep.

Repeat.

Every single day.

His name was loki

And if there was one thing he knew for sure—

It was that his life had no direction.

No meaning.

No purpose.

Just survival.

He adjusted his grip and carried the beam to where it needed to be, dropping it with a dull thud. His breathing was slightly heavier now, but he didn't bother wiping the sweat from his forehead.

What was the point?

In a few minutes, he'd be covered in dust again anyway.

Around him, other workers complained, laughed, cursed—anything to distract themselves from the same reality they were all stuck in.

But loki stayed quiet.

He always did.

Because deep down…

He didn't belong here.

Not in this place.

Not in this life.

For a brief moment, he looked up.

The sky was gray, covered in thin clouds. Nothing special.

And yet—

Something felt… off.

Like he was being watched.

He frowned slightly.

"…Yeah, right."

He shook his head and went back to work.

Just his imagination.

It had to be.

---

"Alright! That's it for today!"

The loud voice of the foreman cut through the noise like a blade.

"Pack it up! We're done!"

Almost instantly, the atmosphere shifted.

Tools were dropped. Machines powered down. Conversations grew louder as relief spread across the workers.

"Finally…"

"Took long enough…"

"Beer time."

People started heading toward the changing area, some already pulling off their gloves, others stretching their sore backs.

Loki exhaled slowly.

At last.

He didn't rush like the others. Instead, he walked at his own pace, grabbing his things before heading inside.

The changing room was cramped, filled with the smell of sweat and dust. Lockers slammed shut, clothes were tossed around, and tired voices echoed off the walls.

Loki changed in silence.

Work clothes off.

Clean clothes on.

Same as always.

Within minutes, most people were already leaving, eager to forget the day.

One by one, they disappeared.

Until—

The room grew quiet.

Loki stepped outside last.

The site, once full of noise, now felt strangely empty.

Only the distant hum of the city remained.

"Hey."

A voice called out to him.

Alex turned his head.

The boss.

A man in his late 40s, rough-looking, arms crossed, eyes tired but sharp.

"You staying late or what?" he asked.

Alex shook his head. "No."

The man nodded once.

"Good. No work tomorrow anyway."

Loki blinked.

"…Day off?"

"Yeah. Don't get used to it," the boss muttered. "We start early the day after."

"…Got it."

There was a short pause.

Then the boss turned and walked away without another word.

Loki stood there for a moment longer.

A day off.

That was… rare.

But instead of feeling excited—

He felt nothing.

"…Whatever."

---

The engine of his car started with a low rumble.

It wasn't anything special.

Old. Slightly worn.

But it worked.

And that was enough.

Loki drove through the streets in silence.

The city passed by him in a blur of lights and buildings. People walked on sidewalks, cars moved in lines, life continued like always.

Everything felt…

Normal.

Too normal.

He rested one hand on the steering wheel, his gaze fixed on the road ahead.

A day off tomorrow.

Most people would be happy.

They'd go out.

Meet friends.

Do something.

Loki?

He had no plans.

No one to call.

No reason to care.

The radio played quietly in the background, but he barely noticed it.

His thoughts drifted.

Then faded.

Leaving only silence.

---

He finally turned into his street.

A quiet neighborhood.

Nothing fancy.

Just rows of houses, dim lights in windows, the occasional parked car.

As he slowed down, he noticed someone outside.

His neighbor.

An older guy, probably in his 50s, standing near the fence.

"Hey!" the man called out casually.

Loki rolled the window down slightly.

"Hey."

"You're back late."

"Work."

"Yeah… figures."

A short pause.

Then the man nodded.

"Take it easy."

"You too."

That was it.

No long conversation.

No deeper connection.

Just… routine.

Loki parked the car in front of his house and stepped out.

The air was cooler now.

Quiet.

Peaceful.

Or at least, it should have been.

He walked up to the door, pulling out his keys.

For a brief moment—

That feeling returned.

That same, strange sensation.

Like something was still watching him.

Closer this time.

He froze.

Just for a second.

Then slowly looked around.

Nothing.

Empty street.

Silent houses.

No movement.

"…I'm just tired."

He unlocked the door and stepped inside.

Darkness welcomed him.

He closed the door behind him.

And just like that—

The world went quiet again.

But somewhere far beyond his understanding…

Something had already made its choice.
