Chapter 53 - Red Trails Leading To Paradise

"So where'd you say that crazed man came from?" Ethan politely asked, to the shaking girl now known as Izzy (Isabella). She was comfortably sitting in the trunk of the car, with a pink drink in hand. Surrounding her was obviously Ethan, Arthur and Braxton. Who were all tried as hell. Wanting to take a full night's rest for once.

"Y-yeah!" Izzy confirmed. "I-I think he came from the forest that way!" She points over to the back field of the now pile of ash that was once a barn.

"Oh yeah, I did see something that looked like blood stains going from the barn, and into the woods!" Ethan recalled. Izzy nodded her head too. "He brought the c-crowbar that I think h-he used to lightly bash his own h-head in…"

Braxton and Arthur weren't really liking the description of what this man was doing. They shivered in disgust, and also because of the cold, night air. The wind blowing through the area didn't really help either. Braxton had enough of this, and went back into the car to get his and Arthur's blanket from the back seat. He throws Arthur's blanket at him, which almost got taken by the wind. Now that the two of them were bundled up, they are finally ready to continue this conversation. That's at least what Ethan and Izzy think with their mildly annoyed expression on their face.

"M-my best guess… is that he was from that institution all the way on the other side of the woods…" She said.

"What kind of institution?" Ethan asked.

"I-I don't know…! But he was talking about s-something called camp g-gamma? Or something?" Izzy explained. "Apparently something was g-going on in there that m-made him go insane I-I think…" she takes another sip of her pink drink, and closes her eyes for just a second. Ethan was thinking about something for a second also. The two of them watch as he most likely comes up with a plan of action.

"Hey Braxton?" Ethan asks.

"Y-y-yeah…?" Braxton was still shivering, even though he had his blanket fully wrapped surrounding his entire body like some sort of burrito.

"You should stay with her in the car. Arthur and I will go search through the woods from where the blood trails start!" Ethan says, with Arthur nodding in agreement. Braxton didn't really see this plan fair at all though.

"Why do I have to stay back?!" He questioned.

"Because of your leg, dumbass!" Arthur was getting sick and tired, of reminding him about the pain he was probably feeling every time he stood. Braxton looked down, and made a sound like: uh yeah, forgot about that.. Arthur was getting more and more surprised on how this dude worked by the day. Izzy also looked down, and was shocked at the bandage that seemed to have been on there for hours, since the thing was covered in blood. She wondered how she didn't spot it before though.

"What happened?!" She says whilst pointing at the piece of his pant leg.

"Got shot" Braxton doesn't bother to elaborate further. For some reason, Izzy accepts that as the other info she needs.

"Alright well, se ya!" Arthur waves at the both of them, before strutting towards where they said the blood trail was. Ethan also joins him; turning on his phone's flashlight so they could actually see. This means that Braxton and Izzy now had to keep each other company until they return, which could take hours depending on how big these woods are.

Also, since I don't really want to cover that right now. We can just switch to Ethan and Arthur's point of view.

Once Arthur made it over to the backside of the barn, the blood trials really were noticeable for him. They seemed to also follow all the way into some random part of the forest. Arthur wasn't the biggest fan of blood himself, but he could handle it a lot better than a charred human body. Ethan poked him from behind, which sent him a step forward and out of his day-dreaming. He was a little pissed off about it, but then he realised that they both should probably hurry this up.

They both followed the blood trail on the right side, watching it bend and wave, probably every time the guy stumbled from pain and agony. It didn't take them very long to get to the very edge that divided the field, and the woods. They saw that the blood trails continued through some sort of path. The rocks that started it off also looking as if they were forcefully moved, since the ground before them looked tilled.

Arthur was the first one to go, and thanks to Ethan's phone's flashlight, it wasn't that hard not to trip. Then Ethan is second to going in, having a little bit more trouble since he was taller and wider.

The ambiance of the woods was really creepy, especially since it was almost silent. The only thing that the both of them could reliably hear, was the grass and the snapping of twigs under their shoes. Each crack sent shivers down Arthur's spine, he'd known that forests aren't supposed to be this quiet; unless, there was a predator around.

*SNAP!

Ethan's heart rate was increasing at an alarming rate.

*SNAP!

Arthur could swear that he had heard something very far away, making a snarling noise. He couldn't pin-point it, but it sounded like some wolf, out on a hunt.

*Crunch!

Someone was nibbling on something. In the distance. They both stopped in their tracks, and listened. The thing was snorting and snarling whilst chewing on whatever it was chewing on. The sound of meat tearing, and bone crushing emanate through the forest, being its only sound. Arthur used his hearing to search out where it was coming from. Then, he turned right 45 degrees, and kept walking. Ethan also followed suit.

The nibbling got louder, and louder, and louder as the two of them slowly trekked onward. Listening, looking for any sort of twigs on the ground to maneuver around. They were doing just fine, until.

"AHH!!" Arthur fell through a pile of leaves, and ended up in a ditch. The sound creates almost a sonic boom in Ethan's, and probably any other animals' ears. He looks down, and sees Arthur with leaves stuck in his hair and his mouth. He giggles a little bit before realising that…

The chewing stopped.

His face turns pale, as he slowly looks up, and sees two big glowing eyes about 10 feet into front of him. Arthur wondered what was going on up above him; but when he saw Ethan's ghostly white face, he knew that something was terribly wrong.

Who knows what it could be…
