Kai lay perfectly still under the thick blankets of Lyra's hidden bed, arms folded behind his head, staring at the stone ceiling with total calm. The distant sounds of pursuit squads and magic scanning above barely registered. He was relaxed, almost lazy, as if the entire continent wasn't hunting him.
System, he said mentally. I just passed fifteen thousand Fate Points. Show me what you have.
The system responded with clear excitement.
Fateweaver Gacha System unlocked for the first time. Milestone reward activated.
Three glowing cards materialized in Kai's vision, each pulsing with immense power and potential.
Card 1 – Assassin Path – Growth-type Stealth & Assassination Card 2 – Cleric Path – Growth-type Support & Healing Dominion Card 3 – Mage Path – Growth-type Elemental & Reality Warping
This is your first Gacha, the system explained. Each skill is permanent and will evolve with every new Eternal Bond and every Fate Point earned. Choose the path that best matches your nature, Host.
Kai studied the cards without rushing. Flashy magic or healing would only paint an even bigger target on his back. He had spent years being stepped on, ignored, and laughed at. He didn't want to stand in the spotlight anymore. He wanted to move unseen, strike when he decided, and disappear before anyone realized he had ever been there.
He reached out mentally and tapped the first card without hesitation.
Choice Confirmed: Assassin Path. Skill Acquired: Silent Thread Reaper (Growth-Type).
Silent Thread Reaper (Lv.1) Merge with fate threads to become nearly undetectable. Completely erases presence, scent, sound, heartbeat, and magical signature. Growth: Every new Eternal Bond extends duration, range, and allows you to reap small fragments of destiny from targets. Current Mastery: Up to twelve minutes of perfect invisibility. Cooldown: Twenty-five minutes.
Kai smiled slowly, a dangerous glint in his eyes. Clean. Quiet. Deadly. This fits me perfectly.
He activated Silent Thread Reaper instantly. His body dissolved into faint purple-black threads and melted completely into the shadows in the far corner of the room, invisible to everything.
Just in time.
The hidden entrance opened. Heavy footsteps came down the stairs.
Lyra's voice echoed first, sharp and irritated. See? There is nothing here. I already told you I haven't seen that smug bastard.
Elara stormed into the underground chamber, silver hair flowing behind her, eyes burning with jealousy and barely contained rage. Six elite knights followed, scanning every corner with glowing detection orbs.
Search everything, Elara ordered coldly. That World Announcement named you specifically, Lyra Voss. If you are hiding him…
Lyra leaned against the wall with her arms crossed, her torn uniform clinging to her sweaty, athletic body. Her crimson ponytail was messy, and her powerful curves were on full display. She looked both dangerous and incredibly tempting.
Search whatever you want, ice princess, she said with clear disdain. But if any of your dogs touches my bed or my axes, I will make you regret coming down here.
The knights tore the room apart. They flipped the mattress, checked every weapon rack, and cast powerful detection spells. Elara walked directly past the corner where Kai stood completely invisible, so close he could smell her elegant perfume and feel the cold fury radiating from her.
After several tense minutes, Elara finally clenched her fists in frustration.
He is not here. But this is not over, Voss.
She turned sharply and left with her knights. The hidden door sealed shut again with a heavy click.
The second the footsteps disappeared above, Lyra let out a long breath and leaned back against the wall, wiping sweat from her neck.
That was too close…
A smooth, low voice spoke right behind her ear, warm breath brushing her skin.
So you do worry about me, Lioness?
Lyra spun around violently. Kai stood there fully visible again, calm and dangerously close, wearing that same relaxed smirk.
You—! Lyra's face turned deep red. She grabbed him by the collar with both hands and slammed him hard against the stone wall. Their bodies pressed together tightly. Her full breasts pushed against his chest, her strong thighs trapping one of his legs between them. Heat radiated between them like an inferno.
How the hell did you hide?! she growled, voice rough and breathless. I thought Elara was going to find you and I would have to fight my way out protecting your stupid ass!
Kai's hands moved to her waist, fingers sliding under the torn fabric to grip bare, sweat-slick skin. He pulled her even closer, their hips pressing together.
I chose the Assassin path, he murmured, voice low and intimate. Silent Thread Reaper. I disappear when I want. And right now… I want to stay right here while you keep pretending you hate me this much.
Lyra's breathing became heavier. Her hands tightened on his shirt, but instead of pushing him away she pulled him harder against her body. Her crimson eyes burned with fury and raw, undeniable desire.
I hate you, she whispered fiercely, lips barely an inch from his. I hate how calm you stay no matter what happens. I hate how your hands feel on me. I hate that my body is reacting like this…
She pressed her thigh harder between his legs, breathing fast. The sexual tension in the small underground room was suffocating. Both of them were still covered in sweat and blood from the earlier fights, bodies hot and adrenaline still pumping hard.
Kai leaned in, his lips brushing the edge of her ear.
Then stop fighting it for a second, he said softly. You want to pin me down. You want to bite me. You want me to take control. I can feel it in every inch of you right now.
Lyra shivered violently. For a brief moment her mind flashed back to years ago — the last time a man had gotten this close, this bold. That noble had tried to force her, thinking her fiery personality was just an act. She had broken his arm and nearly killed him. Ever since then she had kept everyone at a distance with her sharp tongue and axes.
But with Kai it felt completely different. Dangerous. Addictive. She hated how much she wanted him.
Her lips hovered dangerously close to his, almost touching. Her voice came out husky and trembling with conflict.
I should throw you out right now… but fuck… I want to hate you while you're inside me.
Their mouths were a heartbeat away from crashing together when Lyra suddenly growled in frustration and grabbed him by the shirt again. She dragged him toward the small window at the back of the room, body still pressed tightly against his the entire way.
Get out, she snarled, face flushed and breathing ragged. I am not doing this right now. Not after almost getting caught because of your stupid announcement.
She opened the window and tried to shove him out.
Kai twisted at the last second, cupped the back of her head with one hand, and planted a slow, teasing kiss directly on her cheek — dangerously close to the corner of her mouth.
Lyra froze completely. Her strong body trembled. Her face burned crimson.
You bastard… she whispered, voice shaky, clearly affected.
Kai dropped gracefully to the alley below and looked up with that infuriating smirk.
See you soon, Lioness. Try not to miss me too much while you're busy hating me.
Lyra slammed the window shut and pressed her back against the wall, sliding down slowly until she sat on the floor. She touched the spot on her cheek where he had kissed her, heart pounding wildly, thighs pressed tightly together.
Idiota… she muttered, but there was no real anger left in her voice — only frustrated, burning desire and a growing, dangerous obsession.
