Chapter 403 - Nameless Fire and Limit Removal

Chapter 403: Nameless Fire and Limit Removal

The echoes of the words had scarcely faded into the cavernous ruins before reality itself began to warp. Behind him, amidst the lingering, choking clouds of pulverized concrete and dust, the very fabric of space twisted violently, churning and bubbling like a boiling cauldron.

Then came the sound. A dense, maddening rustle that crawled directly over the scalp. It was the sickening scrape of chitinous carapaces grinding against one another, followed by a tidal wave of piercing, high-frequency shrieks. Bzzzt. Bzzzt. Bzzzt.

From within those violently distorted spatial tears, an endless horde of insectoid Ethereals poured out, spilling into the ruins like a nightmare made flesh.

Their grotesque forms varied wildly. Some mirrored bloated, overgrown Spine-Thorn Proto-Insects, while others scuttled forward as massive, multi-legged beetles. A few brandished wicked, scythe-like appendages that cleaved the air. Yet, without exception, every single monstrosity was plated in the same sickly dark-red and bone-pale chitin that armored Bringer. Frenzied, blood-red light pulsed wildly within their complex compound eyes.

These were no ordinary Ethereals merely parasitized by the Spine King Worm. They were direct, horrifying creations birthed by Bringer after his fusion with the King Worm, forged by siphoning the residual corruption of the Hollow and the lingering might of the Primordial One.

Their sheer volume defied logic. Packed shoulder-to-shoulder, thorax-to-thorax, they completely blotted out the shattered ruins behind them. It was a suffocating, writhing ocean of vermin, radiating an aura of pure, unadulterated violence and filth that far surpassed the previous hybrid abominations.

The sky-obscuring swarm bore down on the group, projecting a crushing, suffocating weight of despair. Even the relentless, fiery shockwaves of Eous's continuous self-detonating bombardments—which had previously held the line—now felt like a mere drop in a vast, churning ocean against this endless tide of newly spawned horrors.

As the group braced themselves, momentarily stunned by the sheer scale of the sudden infestation, a sharp, panicked voice shattered the heavy silence.

"Stelle? Stelle! What's wrong with you?!"

March 7th's cry rang out, thick with sudden alarm.

Heads snapped toward the Trailblazer. Stelle remained locked in the slightly forward-leaning stance she had taken after her last sword swing. However, her knuckles were entirely white. The veins on the back of her right hand bulged against her skin as she gripped her heavy blade with terrifying, bone-crushing force. A fine, uncontrollable tremor wracked her entire arm.

Her breathing had grown ragged, her chest heaving with sharp, uneven intakes of air. Deep within her usually calm, golden-red eyes, a terrifying, almost physical inferno of rage had ignited—a fury so absolute it seemed entirely disproportionate to the immediate threat. Woven beneath that blazing anger lay something else... a deep, unspeakable agony and a bone-deep revulsion.

March was already at her side. Disregarding the danger, the archer reached out and firmly gripped Stelle's rigid arm. "Stelle! Are you okay? Did you get hurt just now?" she pressed, her ice-blue eyes wide with genuine distress.

Dan Heng closed the distance in a heartbeat. He leveled Cloud Piercer horizontally in a flawless defensive guard, positioning himself between his companions and the swarm. Yet, his sharp gaze remained fixed on the Trailblazer's erratic state. "Stelle, your energy is completely chaotic," he noted, his voice low and tight.

Lumine and Paimon hovered close by, exchanging deeply worried glances. A few paces away, the operatives of Hollow Special Operations Section 6 watched the exchange with guarded confusion. While they didn't fully grasp the dynamic of the off-worlders, Paimon had just saved Harumasa from a lethal blow, and Stelle had consistently served as their primary vanguard. Seeing their heaviest hitter suddenly freeze up immediately set the Section 6 members on edge.

"I... am fine..." Stelle forced the words through gritted teeth, nearly biting her own tongue to get them out.

She dragged in a harsh, shuddering breath, desperately trying to cap the volcanic eruption of emotion tearing through her chest. It threatened to incinerate her rationality entirely. The attempt proved futile.

Her unblinking gaze remained welded to the screeching, undulating sea of chitin ahead. Every high-pitched click of their mandibles, every sickening gleam of light bouncing off their armored shells—it all acted like jagged glass grinding directly against her exposed nerves. The sensory overload ruthlessly dredged up fragmented, agonizing memories that didn't even belong to her, yet felt intimately, brutally real.

Damn insects...

The omnipresent, maddening drone of wings. The sterile, biting chill of a medical pod. The erratic, dying pulse of flickering monitoring equipment. Firefly's pale, exhausted face... her small body curled tightly into a ball, trembling in endless, incurable agony...

Those fractured images and phantom sounds violently churned within her mind. They were not her own direct experiences, yet they branded themselves into her consciousness with absolute, terrifying clarity. And every single shard of that suffering was inextricably linked to the very concept of the "Swarm" now festering before her—a distorted, endlessly proliferating plague that represented nothing but bottomless greed and absolute consumption.

"It's just... seeing these bugs..." Stelle's voice trembled, vibrating with a lethal frequency. The raw fury practically bled from her skin, heating the air around her. "For no reason... I'm just angry. I am so, so angry!"

She took another jagged breath, but the suffocating pressure in her chest only expanded, demanding release. Logic screamed at her to maintain her composure, to step back and formulate a tactical retreat. But her emotions—a violent, primal impulse to utterly crush, burn, and purify every single insect in her line of sight so they could never inflict pain on another living soul again—battered mercilessly against the fragile dam of her restraint.

The dam broke.

Stelle snapped her head up. The golden-red embers in her eyes flared into a blinding, violent inferno. She cast one fleeting glance over her deeply concerned companions before locking her sights back onto the encroaching tide of Ethereal insects. When she spoke again, her voice spiked, carrying a ragged edge of absolute finality.

"No! No, I... I can't hold it back anymore!"

With a sharp jerk, she pulled her arm free from March's grasp. Stelle took a heavy, deliberate step forward, planting her boots firmly into the cracked concrete. She stood entirely alone, facing down the surging insect tide and the towering figure of Bringer, who stood at the vanguard of the swarm with his blade drawn.

She raised her lance-sword, leveling its heavy tip toward the enemy. In that instant, the chaotic, bloody crimson of the Destruction and the unyielding, brilliant gold of the Preservation erupted from her core. The two opposing Paths intertwined, spiraling up her arms and coating her weapon with an unmatched, terrifying intensity. The sheer density of her power violently warped the surrounding Aether, causing the very atmosphere to scream in chaotic resonance.

"All of you, fall back!" Stelle growled. Her command carried an unquestionable, ironclad authority, though the frayed edges of her voice betrayed her slipping emotional control. "Get far away from here! These things... I'm going to handle them myself!"

"Stelle?!" March panicked, immediately lunging forward to grab her friend again.

A firm hand clamped down on her shoulder. Dan Heng stepped into her path, physically halting her advance. The archivist stared intently at Stelle's rigid back. A rare flicker of deep understanding passed through his usually stoic, unreadable eyes.

"Trust her," Dan Heng said. His voice was quiet, yet anchored with absolute certainty. "Do exactly as she says. Fall back, maintain a wide perimeter, and be ready to provide support the second she needs it."

He understood the Trailblazer better than most. Stelle was chaotic, yes, but she was never truly brainless or recklessly suicidal in combat. This sudden, explosive outburst had roots buried deep in something personal. Forcibly restraining her or demanding explanations in the middle of a warzone would only end in disaster.

Lumine and Paimon exchanged a quick, knowing glance, silently agreeing to follow the archivist's lead. As March opened her mouth to protest, Lumine gently but firmly grabbed her wrist, pulling the archer backward.

"Let's retreat for now," the Traveler murmured softly. "If we stay, we'll only distract her."

The operatives of Section 6 remained entirely in the dark regarding the off-worlders' internal dynamics. However, watching Dan Heng and Lumine willingly yield the vanguard, and recalling the utterly miraculous, logic-defying power Paimon had just unleashed to save Harumasa, Yanagi made a rapid tactical calculation.

Adjusting her glasses, Yanagi issued a crisp, decisive command. "Soukaku, Harumasa, fall back! Establish a triangular defensive perimeter and prepare to provide heavy long-range fire support!"

Moving with practiced efficiency, the combined group rapidly pulled back, clearing the center of the ruined battlefield. They left a wide, empty expanse between Stelle and the boundless, chittering sea of insects commanded by Bringer. Despite their retreat, every single person kept their weapons raised and their muscles coiled, ready to surge forward the instant things went south.

Left alone at the front, Stelle's fury continued to mutate. Continuously stoked by the maddening shrieks of the insect tide and the sickening gleam of their armored shells, her anger transcended mere irritation. It evolved into a primal, violently instinctive loathing, anchored deep within the borrowed memories of a girl who had lost everything to the Swarm.

This all-consuming rage rapidly incinerated the last vestiges of her restraint. Yet, in a beautifully cruel twist of fate, that very same fury acted as the ultimate catalyst. It violently ignited the dormant, overwhelming power within her soul—the true, unbridled strength that had previously been gently suppressed by the Multiversal Chat Group's internal balancing mechanisms.

'Balance... lifted!'

There were no grandiose incantations. No complex, drawn-out rituals. There was only a single, absolute, and merciless command echoing through Stelle's mind.

Deep within her spiritual core, the invisible, protective seal that the Chat Group had placed on the dimensional travelers to stabilize their presence within the Hollow shattered. It snapped with a crisp, ethereal crack, dissolving into nothingness.

BOOM—!

An indescribable, world-shaking aura detonated outward from Stelle's seemingly slender frame. A shockwave of pure, unadulterated cosmic force ripped through the cavern. It was the physical manifestation of a will forged in starlight—a conceptual weight that was infinitely closer to the true essence of the universe, unyielding and absolute.

The ambient Aether energy of the Epis Port Hollow had been whipped into an exceptionally violent, chaotic storm by the lingering taint of the Primordial One and the frenzied agitation of the insect swarm. Yet, the very millisecond Stelle's unleashed aura swept across the ruins, the Aether fell into a deathly, unnatural calm. It was as if a raging, tempestuous ocean had been instantly flattened into a sheet of glass by the palm of an invisible, cosmic giant.

No, it wasn't a calm at all. It was submission.

It was the primal, instinctive terror and total capitulation of lower-dimensional energy being forced to its knees before a vastly superior, higher-dimensional existence. The very air ceased to flow. Clouds of pulverized concrete and fine dust hung suspended, frozen perfectly in mid-air. Even the roaring, expanding firelight from Eous's distant detonations seemed to pause, entirely suppressed by the sheer gravitational weight of her presence.

The entire Hollow seemed to hold its breath in absolute terror.

Every eye, human and monster alike, was drawn to the lone figure standing at the vanguard. Stelle was now entirely wreathed in materialized, roaring golden-red flames. This fire was no longer just a crude, volatile interweaving of the Paths of Destruction and Preservation. The two cosmic forces had melted together, fusing into a blinding, extraordinary radiance—a holy, apocalyptic fire that hungered to burn away all cosmic filth and violently cleanse every trace of disharmony from the world.
