Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: More to death than there's to life

Starland City was a paradise in its own way, with buildings so tall that they threatened to scrape against the heavens. Given the starry sky tonight, its beauty was astounding, with all the lights from both buildings and vehicles moving around the highways. On the outskirts of the city, there was a gigantic bridge, commonly known as the Bridge of Ascension to the world, although a few experts preferred to call it Hilston Bridge. This Hilston Bridge was so large that humans couldn't traverse it on foot. The distance itself was in hundreds of kilometers, joining Starland city to a large mountain range. Its arches were made of pure gold and diamonds, with intricate ancient designs all over them. This went on to show how sacred this ancient bridge was.

Right in the midst of the night, a teenage boy rode his bike towards the center of the bridge. He must have come a long way, given the sweat-drenched clothes he was clad in. Anyone would have guessed on the spot that this boy was an advanced human since normal humans wouldn't cover such a distance with just a bike. He slowly pulled over near the huge golden rail guards and hopped off the bike. This boy was brown-skinned and quite the ardonis on a closer look, standing at an average height of five feet seven inches. His hair was so wet from all the sweat that it trickled down his chiseled jawline. Clad in a totally black outfit, the boy looked quite like a young downtown thug.

He proceeded to jump onto the five-meter-tall rail guards with nothing but raw strength and gazed at the world below. All that could be seen was a large river with flowing water and the reflected starry sky which made him look up at the sky. His face was full of remorse with no traces of happiness at all. The young man's beautiful eyes were red from crying, as he reminisced about his life. All of the memories of what he had gone through in the past flashed in his mind as he closed his eyes. He felt like he couldn't take it anymore. The boy had endured too much, but the world was cruel enough not to notice.

"Maybe when I'm gone...no, nobody would care anyway." The boy sadly mumbled to himself as he drew in a deep breath.

Despite the thought of ending he had in mind, he still felt a bit of fear because he was doing this himself. This was also one of the many nights he'd been here, to give suicide a chance but this time round was a bit different. He had been pushed to the edge so much that life felt suffocating despite having felt this way very many times. Closing his eyes, this young man took a few steps forward, approaching the edge of the huge rail guard. He raised his foot forward without much thought for he feared making his way out of this but before the moment could fully unfold, a sweet warm voice called out to him.

"Hey... it's such a beautiful night and yet you want to ruin it for me!?" The young man was startled he almost fell. The next moment was a funny struggle of gaining his balance since he was already on the edge. A few giggles from the sweet warm voice rang out before a silhouette flashed before him and pulled him away. A few moments of deep breathing later, the young man finally calmed down before turning to the person next to him with a glare.

"You~" His words were stuck right in his throat the moment he set his eyes onto the person who had just saved him a moment ago. He couldn't help but gulp as he stared in admiration.

Next to him was a young lady about his age. She was chocolate skinned with snow white hair and her beauty was beyond comprehension. She had everything that made one scream "beautiful" in their minds and her charm was so magnetic it could pull countless people over regardless of the gender. Her curves were accentuated by the silk black knee length dress she was clad in. This girl even had a few ornaments made of pure silver on her. The boy couldn't help but breathe in sharply.

"Hey, are you alright!?" The girl waved her hand in front of the boy's face, pulling him out of the trance he had just fell into. He felt so embarrassed that his face almost turned red. Normally, he would not be fazed by other people's beauty but this time round, he couldn't help it. ' She's so gorgeous.' He thought to himself before looking away.

"I'm good, thanks." He replied.

"Willow." The girl raised her slender hand forward for a handshake whilst saying her name.

"Seth." The young man also said his name before shaking her hand. It was so soft that he felt like he could rip it off. He knew better though than to judge a book by its cover. ' Why is her name familiar!?' Seth thought to himself but shook it off since many people had the same names.

"Tell me Seth, why do you want to die so badly?" Willow curiously asked with a sweet gentle smile plastered onto her countenance. She looked the young man dead in the eye.

"You don't believe I'd tell you that just because you saved me, right?" Seth replied with a blunt tone, a sign that he had regained his composure. The girl didn't look surprised though, not even annoyed. Instead she smiled at him before gazing up at the sky shining with countless stars, sighing at the sight.

"Tonight it's beautiful, isn't it?" Willow asked him to which Seth nodded with a 'hmm' sound. The two then stood together in silence as they marveled at the beautiful sight of the night sky above the glamorous city.

"It's not my first time seeing you here, attempting to commit that deed." Willow finally broke the peaceful silence. Seth was a bit flustered by her confession, he snuck a glance at her before replying, "w-what do you mean!?"

"Well...the first time I came here, I happened to notice you given that you were screaming so loud and shouting at the world as though it had taken something so precious from you..." The girl paused a bit before continuing, "I was going through so much at the moment that I felt so suffocated and frustrated by everything hence I came over here to the Bridge that takes away worries. After I saw you that time, the way you shouted out to the world with raw emotion, I felt like I couldn't give up on myself either. So after you left, I also stood up and did the same and hey, I felt a weight off my shoulders. Ever since then, I'd frequent this place just to see you and share moments with you in silence." Willow finally fell silent.

" Wow...that sounds like a love confession." Seth spouted in reply before his eyes widened in disbelief after processing what he had just said. Much to his surprise though, Willow gave out a hearty laughter even tear drops formed on the corners of her eyes. The way she laughed though was naturally graceful, something most scions had in common. Seth watched Willow laugh to her heart's content and couldn't help but smile.

He had always been like this though, one moment he is off and another he is on. The current moment was unexpected, and to think that this beauty next to him had watched him from time to time, made Seth's heart flutter a bit. She soon stopped laughing and rubbed off the tear drops from her eyes.

"Sorry about that Seth, you're unusually funny tonight." Willow said with an apologetic smile on her beautiful countenance. She looked really beautiful with the way her hair fluttered in the gentle wind.

"It's fine, I'm good about it all." Seth replied before looking ahead into the distance. He felt that if he kept on looking into her blue eyes, he would eventually unknowingly fall for her. "Actually...I feel like there's more to death than there's to life." Seth finally confessed. ' Might as well confide in a stranger this once, at least we won't meet ever again.' He thought to himself.

"More to death than there's to life, huh. You feel like you've really seen all life has to offer!?" Willow stared right at him before asking. Seth also turned to look at her and shook his head instead. "I've not seen it all but all I've seen so far, is enough for me to not want to see any more of what life has in store." At that reply, Willow fell into a deep contemplation. The silence returned but the two stood side by side on the huge golden rail guard. If one looked at their backs, they'd think of them as a couple. Willow stood at the same height as Seth.

The next moment, Seth's figure flashed and appeared near his bike, picked it up and hoped onto it. Willow slowly turned her head and looked at him. She wanted to say something to him but the words got stuck in her throat. She smiled instead and watched him as he rode his bike away at an insanely high speed. When he was out of sight, she turned her head back to look at the calmly flowing river thousands of feet below.

"At least I'll get to see you more often now." She mumbled to herself with a gentle smile.

Seth rode his bike so fast that if a normal human noticed, they would think of a sports car. He was after all an advanced human and quite a strong one at that. Many thoughts rampaged his mind at the moment as he recalled the short conversation he had just had with Willow a few moments ago. Upon exiting the bridge, Seth rode his bike through a quiet path, avoiding the main ones which were bustling with life at the moment. It was his usual routine after all.

"What a coward I am!" He angrily mumbled to himself as he sped away.

Back at the bridge, Willow who was still standing in silence at the same spot Seth had left her finally turned. There was a middle aged man clad in a black suit, standing on the ground looking up at her. When he noticed her eyes, he bowed down. " Young miss, I'm here to take your home. It's getting late." He said in a very respectful manner before standing up straight. There was something about him that made one want to back away. A formless aura surrounded him, giving off an intimidating vibe but to Willow, this was normal.

"Have you found out about him?" She inquired in a tone so cold it could freeze one's composure, a stark contrast to the one she used earlier.

"He goes to Skylight academy, just that he's in the ordinary sector." The man replied. Willow smiled faintly. ' Well well, things are getting interesting.' She thought to herself before her figure flashed and appeared next to the man. "Let's go." She commanded and in just a few moments, a convoy of highly expensive cars assembled before her. The man opened a back door for her on one of the cars and off they went.

Seth didn't know any of this. An hour later, he reached a high end neighborhood and went straight for his house where he lived alone. He opened the door to the house after locking his bike onto it's rack and headed for a shower. Minutes later, he was in bed busy thinking about the encounter at the bridge earlier. He felt a strange feeling deep within which Seth felt was a bad one. He didn't want anything to do with anyone for he had serious trust issues but the interaction he had with Willow earlier was something he enjoyed which is why he decided to quit going to the bridge ever again.
