Mai Mingle skidded to a halt just before charging into the underground hall.
She slowly peeked her head out from behind the wall, and her eyes immediately locked onto the massive black shadow that nearly brushed the ceiling.
The phone lay abandoned on the hall floor, but the black cat had already lost interest in it. Mai Mingle's worst fear was clearly taking shape before her very eyes: the black cat turned its head toward where Fu Tailan's body lay, let out a rumble from its throat, and suddenly shot its tail straight up, hitting the ceiling with a THUD.
After the two-meter-tall cat raised its tail, it looked as if a wrinkled, leathery lamp were hanging from the ceiling.
'...Does that mean it's interested... in eating him? Or something else?'
'It couldn't possibly know Fu Tailan, could it?'
When Mai Mingle was young, she had adopted a stray cat that didn't live for very long.
