Chapter 1 - The Girl Behind the Locked Door

The old mansion stood at the edge of the town, silent and forgotten, as if time itself had abandoned it. People walked past it during the day, but never stopped. And after sunset… no one even looked in its direction.

They said it was cursed.

They said a girl once lived there… and never left.

Aarav didn't believe in such stories.

"Ghosts aren't real," he muttered as he stood in front of the mansion's rusted iron gate.

The sky above him was slowly darkening, the last light of the sun fading into shadows. A cold breeze passed by, sending a shiver down his spine—but he ignored it.

"Just one look," he whispered.

The gate creaked loudly as he pushed it open, the sound echoing unnaturally in the silence. Inside, the garden was wild and overgrown. Dead leaves covered the ground, crunching under his feet with every step.

The mansion looked even more terrifying up close.

Broken windows.

Cracked walls.

And a large wooden door… slightly open.

Aarav hesitated for a moment.

Then stepped inside.

The air inside was cold… unnaturally cold.

It smelled of dust and something else… something old.

The floor creaked beneath him as he walked forward. A long hallway stretched ahead, lined with faded portraits. The faces in the paintings looked lifeless… yet their eyes seemed to follow him.

Aarav stopped.

"Okay… this is creepy," he admitted under his breath.

Then—

"Help me…"

The whisper was soft. Almost unnoticeable.

But he heard it.

Aarav froze.

"Who's there?" he called out.

No response.

For a few seconds, there was nothing but silence.

Then again—

"Please… help me…"

This time, it was clearer.

And it was coming from upstairs.

Aarav's heart started beating faster.

Every instinct told him to leave.

But something else… curiosity… pulled him forward.

Slowly, he walked toward the staircase.

Each step creaked loudly as he climbed up. The air grew colder with every step. It felt heavy, almost suffocating.

At the end of the hallway upstairs, there was a single door.

Unlike the others…

This one was locked.

The whisper came from behind it.

"Let me out…"

Aarav approached carefully. His hand trembled as he reached for the handle.

Locked.

He looked around and noticed something strange—a small, old key hanging on a nail beside the door.

"Why would a key be left outside?" he whispered.

It didn't make sense.

But nothing about this place made sense.

He picked up the key.

For a moment, he hesitated.

"This is a bad idea…"

But then the voice came again.

"Please…"

Aarav closed his eyes for a second… then inserted the key into the lock.

Click.

The sound echoed like a warning.

Slowly, he pushed the door open.

Inside the room, it was dark.

Too dark.

But then… he saw her.

A girl.

Standing in the corner.

Wearing a white dress.

Her long black hair fell over her face, hiding her expression. But as she slowly lifted her head…

Aarav felt his blood run cold.

Her eyes—

They were glowing red.

He stumbled back. "W-who are you?"

The girl stared at him silently.

"I've been waiting," she said softly.

Her voice was calm… almost too calm.

"For what?" Aarav asked, his throat dry.

"For someone who would open the door."

Aarav swallowed hard. "Why were you locked in here?"

The girl looked down.

"Because they were afraid of me."

"Who?"

"My family."

Aarav frowned. "Why would they be afraid of you?"

For a moment, she didn't answer.

Then she whispered—

"Because bad things happen around me."

Suddenly—

BANG!

The door slammed shut behind Aarav.

He turned quickly and tried to open it.

Locked.

"Hey! What's going on?!" he shouted.

The air in the room turned freezing cold.

The walls began to crack.

A low humming sound filled the room, growing louder and louder.

Aarav's heart pounded in fear. "What is this?!"

The girl stepped closer.

"I told you… bad things happen."

Her eyes glowed brighter.

The windows shattered suddenly, glass flying everywhere. A violent wind filled the room, even though there was no source.

Aarav backed away, terrified.

"You're not human…" he whispered.

The girl stopped.

"I was," she said quietly.

The chaos in the room continued—objects shaking, walls cracking, shadows moving unnaturally.

"You shouldn't have opened the door," she said.

Aarav shook his head. "I was just trying to help!"

For a moment…

Everything stopped.

The wind disappeared.

The room fell silent again.

The girl's expression changed.

She looked… sad.

"I know," she said softly.

The red glow in her eyes faded slightly.

"I don't want to hurt anyone," she continued. "That's why they locked me away."

Aarav took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

"Then let me help you," he said.

The girl looked at him, surprised.

"Help me?"

"Yes," Aarav said. "There has to be a reason this is happening. And there has to be a way to stop it."

For the first time…

She smiled.

"My name is Meera," she said.

"Aarav," he replied.

For a moment, everything felt normal.

Almost peaceful.

But then—

A whisper echoed through the mansion.

Not from the girl.

Not from Aarav.

But from somewhere deeper.

"You shouldn't interfere…"

Both of them froze.

Aarav looked around. "Did you hear that?"

Meera's face turned pale.

"That's not me…" she whispered.

The temperature dropped again.

The shadows in the room began to move… forming shapes.

Something else was there.

Something far more dangerous.

Meera stepped back in fear. "It's awake…"

"What is?" Aarav asked.

Before she could answer—

A dark figure appeared in the corner of the room.

Tall.

Shapeless.

Watching them.

Aarav's breath stopped.

Meera grabbed his arm.

"We need to leave… NOW!"

But the door behind them slowly creaked open on its own.

And from the darkness beyond…

A voice whispered—

"You're too late…"
