Chapter 74 - “Rei Akagi Successfully Wrote Down the Record!”

"I've given that organization the codename 'Rainbow.' The number of members is unknown, but it can be confirmed that it is an extremely dangerous terrorist organization."

"Champion Cynthia and I encountered someone in the Emperor's Mausoleum's alternate dimension who was likely a core member of the organization, at the very least a high-ranking executive with major command authority."

"Their exact goal is still unclear. However, during the battle with Champion Cynthia, that executive clearly revealed an ambition to control the world."

"That makes them somewhat similar to the old Team Rocket."

How many members of Team Rainbow Rocket are even left?

Who knows.

In my previous world I beat them down until only a few commanders were left standing. Who knows how many cannon fodder they've recruited in this world.

Rei Akagi thought this calmly.

Beside him, Cynthia, who was quietly eating the remaining half of the apple, had the corner of her mouth twitch slightly.

How can he say so many lies so seriously…?

Did he ever trick me like this too?

Hmm… probably not… right?

In the end, Cynthia chose to remain silent.

She even nodded cooperatively, showing agreement.

She believed he had his own reasons for doing this.

Noticing Cynthia's reaction from the corner of his eye, Rei Akagi felt a little relieved.

It wasn't that he wanted to deceive anyone.

It was just that the name of an interdimensional villain organization was big enough to make the League take the matter seriously and strengthen their defenses.

That alone was enough.

"Hmm…"

Professor Oak paused before continuing.

"The Pokémon League said that if you're willing, they can grant you Special Investigator authority to support any future investigations."

Rei Akagi fell silent.

Fragments of his battle against Team Rainbow Rocket in his previous world flashed uncontrollably through his mind.

He hesitated.

"If I have time… I will."

"Alright. That concludes the official questioning session. We can relax a bit now."

Professor Oak nodded while quickly recording the report in the League's notebook.

Only then did Rei Akagi turn toward Cynthia beside him, looking slightly embarrassed.

"Um… thank you, Miss Cynthia."

"For what?"

Cynthia pressed down the smile on her lips and asked knowingly.

Rei Akagi laughed awkwardly, lowering his voice.

"Thank you… for not exposing the parts where my information was… uh… incomplete."

"In that case."

Cynthia turned slightly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear and revealing the graceful line of her profile.

"Aren't you going to explain something?"

"Ahem!"

Professor Oak clenched his fist near his mouth and coughed loudly, inserting himself into the conversation while trying very hard to remind them he existed.

"Even if you're flirting, at least pay attention to the situation! This old man is still right here! Wait until I finish the last thing before you continue!"

Cynthia shot up from her seat instantly.

A visible blush spread from her neck to her pale cheeks, even reaching the tips of her ears.

She forced herself to remain composed.

Yet she didn't refute Professor Oak's teasing.

Instead, she stiffened her expression and spoke in an almost robotic tone.

"I still have matters to attend to. I won't disturb you further. Garchomp isn't feeling well, so I'll take it to the Pokémon Center."

Before she even finished speaking, she had already walked toward the door.

Her pace looked calm.

But she moved surprisingly fast.

Compared to Cynthia's retreat, Rei Akagi looked extremely calm.

His skin was thick enough that Professor Oak's teasing no longer affected him.

"…Isn't this already the Pokémon Center?"

Professor Oak scratched his head as he watched Cynthia leave, muttering softly.

Then he turned back and pulled out a white device from his pocket, handing it solemnly to Rei Akagi.

"Here. I made this Pokédex specifically for you. I wanted to give it earlier but never found the right opportunity. Now seems perfect."

"A Pokédex?"

Rei Akagi froze.

If it was made personally by Professor Oak, then it certainly wasn't ordinary.

There was only one possibility—

This was a Special Pokédex, designed for Trainers with extraordinary talents.

Red's battle specialization.

Green's training research.

Gold's egg hatching expertise…

Every Special Pokédex holder possessed a unique specialty.

It represented recognition, expectation, and identity.

But what special ability did he have?

The Power of Aura?

That probably didn't count…

Or maybe…

He was overthinking things and this was simply a customized normal Pokédex?

"Yes."

Professor Oak's answer broke his train of thought.

"This is a Special Pokédex tailored for you. It functions similarly to the ones given to Red and the others, though the appearance and version are different."

He smiled and added:

"Normally there's a question-and-answer session before granting a Pokédex… but for you, we'll skip that."

To you, what are Pokémon?

Professor Oak already had a clear answer in his heart.

"Gengaaaar—"

The Gengar in Rei Akagi's arms wriggled curiously.

Rei Akagi took the white device and straightened the restless purple pillow.

One big head and one small head leaned together, studying the Pokédex.

The shell was pure white, decorated with sleek golden lines.

The touchscreen and scanning port gave off a precise technological feel.

The overall style was both rigorous and futuristic.

Rei Akagi couldn't help asking:

"Professor Oak… what exactly is my talent?"

"Talent?"

Professor Oak clearly hadn't expected that question.

He stroked his chin thoughtfully before breaking into a hearty laugh.

"Do you know the phenomenon that appears when sunlight passes through water droplets after a storm?"

"In a sense, it represents hope. It represents miracles."

"But I prefer another name for it."

He paused.

Then said two words.

"Rainbow."

A Rainbow person…

Someone who represents hope and miracles?

That sounded like a heavy title to carry.

But what exactly was his ability?

Please explain clearly!

Rei Akagi sighed inwardly and pressed the power button on the Pokédex.

"Beep beep beep—"

The familiar startup sound played.

The dark screen lit up instantly.

A minimalist UI interface unfolded, listing its functions one by one.

Pokédex DatabasePartner Pokémon InformationLeague Identity ProfileCity Map NavigationAnd finally…

Trainer Record

…Who dug out the game console I hid?!

Professor Oak!

You still say your Pokédex isn't a handheld game system?!

Rei Akagi complained internally while opening the Pokédex Database.

Registered Regional Pokémon

Kanto Region: 151 / 151

Johto Region: 100 / 100

Other Regions: Not yet registered

Just as expected.

Only Kanto and Johto data were currently included.

Rei Akagi returned to the main menu.

His gaze swept over the features before stopping on Trainer Record.

A strange feeling surfaced.

He raised his eyebrow and tapped it.

Would you like to save your adventure record so far?

YES / NO

Rei Akagi silently chose YES.

Writing record… Please do not turn off the power

Please record your partner Pokémon information

Wait.

He had to write it himself?

Rei Akagi paused, then pulled out the stylish electronic pen included with the Pokédex.

He looked down at the wriggling Gengar in his arms.

Then at the tiny Rayquaza sleeping on his collar.

After thinking for a moment, he began writing on the blank page.

Gengar

"A Pokémon that hides within shadows."

"Wears the Leader's Crest."

"Has a somewhat serious personality."

"We met as if by destiny at theMausoleum of the First Emperor."

"Likes playing pranks."

Rei Akagi paused and flipped to the next page.

Rayquaza

"A Pokémon from the sky."

"Wears a Commemorative Medal."

"Has a somewhat tsundere personality."

"It seems to have traveled thousands of miles through time and space from an ancient region where we were destined to meet before."

"Often takes afternoon naps."

Record complete.

He pressed confirm.

The Pokédex screen flashed.

"Rei Akagi successfully wrote down the record!"
