Chapter 20 - Chapter 21: The First Refinement — Breaking the Limit of Flesh

The descent into the Earthly Fiend Cave felt like stepping into the gullet of a dying star. The violet mist wasn't just gas; it was a physical weight, a corrosive pressure that sought out every pore, every micro-fissure in the skin.

For Aruheng, the experience was a raw, unmitigated nightmare. Even with the Ice Heart Pill and the secondary radiation from the Ice God Pearl, he could feel his outer epidermis sizzling away. His innate full soul power surged instinctively, trying to repel the malevolent energy, but the Earthly Fiend was relentless.

"Don't fight it with your soul power yet!" Mu Ye's voice boomed from the cave entrance, sounding like it was coming from miles away. "If you block it, you learn nothing. Let it erode you! Let it reach the marrow!"

Aruheng let out a muffled grunt of agony, his face contorting. But he didn't back down. He sat cross-legged, his broad shoulders trembling as he entered the first stage: Integration.

The Frozen Anchor

Beside him, Qian Gu Zhangting was a different story altogether.

While Aruheng was a wildfire struggling to stay lit, Zhangting was a glacier. The Ice God Pearl sat in his lap, its teardrop shape glowing with a blinding, azure intensity. The violet malevolence of the cave clashed with the divine frost of the pearl, creating a strange, crackling zone of "Zero-Point Erosion."

Zhangting watched his own hands with a detached, clinical fascination. His skin would turn a sickly purple, dissolve into a fine ash, and then—aided by the massive influx of medicinal vitality from the Dragon-Blood Marrow he had consumed earlier—it would knit back together, white as snow and twice as dense.

Integration is about welcoming the destruction, Zhangting realized, his mind hovering in a state of absolute stillness. Purification is the act of filtering the waste. And Reshaping... Reshaping is where I decide who I am.

He closed his eyes. In the darkness of his mind, the Panlong Staff stirred. Usually, the staff was a symbol of unyielding, upright strength. But here, in the depths of the Earthly Fiend Cave, it began to change. The dragon carved into the staff didn't just look like wood anymore; it looked like it was shivering.

The Ice God Pearl's energy was leaking into his sea of consciousness, coating the Panlong Staff in a layer of divine frost.

The Tipping Point

Hours passed. Or perhaps it was days. In the Earthly Fiend Cave, time was measured only by the cycles of agony and regeneration.

Mu Ye watched from a distance, his eyes wide. He had expected Zhangting to rely on the pearl to bypass the pain. Instead, he saw the boy leaning into the collision. Zhangting was intentionally lowering the pearl's output just enough to let the Fiend energy bite deep into his muscle tissue before freezing it.

"He's not just refining his body," Mu Ye whispered, his voice trembling. "He's using the malevolent energy as a hammer and the Ice God Pearl as the anvil. He's forging his own cells."

Suddenly, a muffled explosion of energy erupted from the center of the cave.

Aruheng let out a roar. His bald head was no longer just shiny; it was glowing with a dull, bronze light. His Integration was complete. His body had accepted the Earthly Fiend as a permanent guest, and his innate vitality was beginning to bloom.

But the real anomaly was Zhangting.

The blue and violet vortex around him had turned into a solid pillar of light. The temperature in the cave dropped so low that even the Earthly Fiend mist began to crystallize and fall to the floor like shattered glass.

Zhangting's eyes snapped open. They were no longer the eyes of a six-year-old. They were two pits of freezing, cosmic stardust.

"Teacher," Zhangting's voice was a jagged shard of ice. "The Earthly Fiend isn't enough. It's too... soft."

Mu Ye gasped. "Zhangting, don't be a fool! You've already reached the limit of the first refinement in a single session! If you go deeper, the malevolence will shatter your soul!"

"Then let it shatter," Zhangting replied, standing up. Every movement caused the air to crackle. "I didn't come here to be a 'prodigy.' I came here to be the end of the old world."

He turned and began to walk deeper into the cave, toward the Abyssal Core, where the Earthly Fiend energy was so dense it turned into liquid fire.

Aruheng watched him, his jaw dropping. "Big Brother... he's really a god, isn't he?"

Mu Ye didn't answer. He couldn't. He was too busy watching the impossible happen. A boy without a physical martial soul was walking toward the supreme realm of the Flawless Golden Body, and he was doing it with a smile that would have terrified a demon.
