Neriah remained quiet as she followed Wilson Vale out of the apartment.
She glanced backwards, her eyes fixed on Lucille who just smiled faintly at her.
Neriah stopped walking, letting out a shaky sigh. The hallway oddly felt narrower than usual, she looked at Wilson Vale's back as he kept walking…he didn't stop to look back at her, not even once.
Lucille didn't even bother to see her out. Neriah shook her head at the thought and continued walking forward.
As they stepped out of the apartment's building, the door shut close behind her with a small click. Her mother hadn't even bothered to say goodbye, she didn't even hesitate to hand her over to this stranger.
Neriah didn't want to keep being stubborn. If she wasn't wanted here, she would prefer to go to a place where she was actually wanted.
The air outside smelled like wet soil, the sky still dark and the cold wind that blew by made Neriah shudder.
The sleek black car in front her seemed a bit out of place on the streets.
