It sat on the corner of his desk for forty minutes.
He knew it was there. Damien had placed it down and walked away without comment, which was the most Damien way to deliver something significant, and Seren had looked at it once and then gone back to the task list and worked through two more items before he accepted that the task list was not going to make the envelope less present.
He picked it up.
His name on the front. Handwriting he recognized from six weeks of watching her annotate documents at her desk across the floor.
He opened it.
There was no letter.
Just a USB drive.
And a single index card with four words written on it in Lysandra's precise, controlled hand.
This is all of it.
Seren looked at the drive.
Looked at the card.
Sat very still for a moment.
Then he stood, walked to Caelan's door, knocked once, and went in.
Caelan looked up.
Seren placed the drive and the card on the desk between them.
Caelan read the card.
He picked up the drive.
