Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Curses

The Multiverse speed run

Central City: 2028

In the bustling heart of the city, students of the Central Future's academy, walked in flocks, heading home in the afternoon. A dark eyed boy, K walked on his own, headphones on, white noise bouncing against his canals

His phone vibrated in his pocket, pulling it out, notifications flooded the screen as soon as he turned it on

[1 stellar= $30]

*Rent- 120 stellar*

*Mom's medicine- 270 stellar*

*Funeral expenses for dad- 180 stellar*

He shoved the phone back in his pocket, biting his tongue hard. 'Why'

At his home, the quiet, cold emptiness struck hard, he sat down at the table, then pulled out his notebook and a pen

Just as he was about to press on the metal, a sudden shock traveled through his body, striking the pen, and sending it flying into the sink

He stared at his hand in shock, the lifeless dull fading slightly. "No way" tears rolled down his cheeks, his mind suddenly flashing back to a memory

A year ago, Humans had begun awakening strange abilities called Curses. More than 80% of the world had awakened them, but he was in the unfortunate 20%

To make matters worse, a year later, just a week before the present day, he had lost his father to a criminal curse user. No matter how much they grieved, the government didn't care enough to consider their feelings, and instead sentenced the man to two years

Two years, the injustice had weighed heavily on him, and unfortunately, it was the same for his mom, who collapsed a few days later. From neurological issues

Plunging him deeper into despair and isolation. But today, a ray of sunshine had appeared

"I've awakened a curse?!" He smiled through the broken tears, trying desperately to reassure himself

But then. The image of the criminal's curse nature appeared, and his smile froze

"Curse...."

He clenched his fists tightly, the light in his eyes died once more. How was he supposed to share the news with his mom? One last tear fell, tapping on the table, a moment later, the moist glowed green, and a small plant sprouted slowly from the table, blooming at its small size

His phone rang, a deep voice came from the other side of the line, "Kid, I know times are rough, you can hold off on the rent for now, just until you're on proper standing alright?"

"Sir....I've awakened" he had steadied his voice before answering, the other side remained silent, until

"Really? That's great news kid. Drop by my office tomorrow, I'll arrange a few helping hands for ya'"

"Thank you" he hung up, then before he could set the phone down, the smell of burning plastic hit his nose, he looked down, and saw both the plastic and metal frame of his phone melting, the screen expanded until it popped, leaving him stunned

It took him a moment to notice that his hands were on fire

The neighbors downstairs heard screams and thuds from his room, when they pushed the door open, they found him rolling around, sink running, vapor coming from his hands

"K. Calm down"

He was out of it. The fire had cracked his mask, reminding him of the gruesome video he had saw. The factory which his father worked in, man had suddenly burst in, throwing flames around, yelling for a 'Meredith' to come out or he'll kill everyone, and unfortunately, his father was the victim, the fire had burnt from the inside, drying up blood, burning every organ to charcoal. His skin dried up almost instantly, and just like that, he was gone.

"K! A woman ran in, summoning her own curse, a cooling sensation settled on his hands,he opened his eyes, to see a block of ice, slowly dispersing the fire, the woman looked worried. "Don't scare me like that K"

Slowly, his vision blurred, and his lids became heavier and heavier, until they closed shut

In the darkness, a voice spoke to him. "So tragic. This world must really hate you, so why are you still bending over backwards for it? It wants to see you down, why are you hoping for the best for it. This darn country, these people. They see curses as blessings. But, do you see logic in calling a blessing, a curse?"

"Who are you?"

"Who am I? Can't you tell? I'm your inner demon"

The darkness shifted to reveal a much darker, slightly demonic lookalike of himself. "You've endured enough without any retaliation. So why not at least get one feel of satisfaction?" The lookalike lifted it hand, and K's vision was filled with a scene of a courtroom, when the killer was being sentenced. "Haha. It's only natural, why sentence someone as valuable as me for taking an insignificant life? Not that the guy meant much to begin with"

His eyes, which were closed, opened instantly, his dark pupils glowing red and blue, "Burn it all down"

The woman, Marina heard his voice from the kitchen, when she walked into the room, a large hole was in the wall, some parts of it glowing magma, and in the far distance, a silhouette was moving farther and farther away from the room.

In the city, he crossed a building so fast the windows churned and exploded in an instant, air waves tore cell towers down as he passed the mountains

Just beyond the mountains, the country's penitentiary appeared, a large compound, with grey uniform visible from high in the air.

"Grayson Thomas! Go f*ck yourself!"

Everyone below looked up at the sound, and their eyes met tens of Large fireballs, imbued in lightning descending down at them

"Deploy the barriers. NOW!"

Guards rushed to their towers, deploying defensive barriers, but the lightning element overcharged their circuits, frying every component

Grayson stepped out from the compound building, his bored expression morphing into one of intrigue and glee

"Alright. Some entertainment. He summoned his own fireballs, before he could attack, the ones descending changed trajectory, and aimed directly at him. Their speed increasing significantly

"Brace for impact!"

A white light beamed across the entire compound, stretching high above the mountains, the whistling sound increased until- a deafening blast tore from the point of impact, transforming the white to a mixture of blue and red, forming a cloud of smoke that reached high above the actual clouds

As the cloud disappeared, a thick, larger stone of Basalt stood where the fireballs had struck, a pair of fingers visible from one side of the rock, a few more pieces fell from the air, hitting the buildings and concrete with immense force
