Chapter 16 - The First Awakening

Silence ruled the ruined vault.

Even the rain above seemed distant.

The Titan Hunter, a monster large enough to crush buildings, lay half-buried in broken steel and concrete—thrown backwards as if it weighed nothing.

Smoke rose from its shattered armour.

Its crimson core flickered weakly.

For the first time since arriving in Berlin, no one moved.

Because everyone was staring at Aarav.

Including Aarav.

He stood in the centre of the battlefield, breathing hard, staring at his own hand.

The golden markings that had spread across his arm were fading now, disappearing beneath his skin as if they had never existed.

But he had felt it.

That power.

That impossible moment.

The red beam had stopped.

Not blocked.

Stopped.

As if reality itself had paused to listen.

Rohan was the first to speak.

He pointed dramatically.

"Bro."

A pause.

"…What the hell was that?"

A fair question.

Aarav looked at him.

"I would also like to know."

Mira walked forward first.

No sarcasm.

No teasing.

Only seriousness.

That was somehow terrifying.

Her violet eyes were fixed on his arm.

"Show me."

Aarav blinked.

"What?"

"Your hand."

Rohan quietly stepped backwards.

"Good luck."

Aarav sighed and held out his arm.

Mira grabbed his wrist.

Her fingers were cold.

Her expression was colder.

For several seconds, she simply stared at the skin where the golden patterns had appeared.

Then her eyes widened—just slightly.

That alone was enough to make Aelina step closer.

"What is it?"

Mira released him slowly.

"It's real."

Selene stood nearby, her giant blade resting against the floor.

Her golden eyes never left Aarav.

"Of course it is."

Aelina activated a holographic scan.

Blue light passed over his arm.

Streams of unreadable data filled the air.

Then the system froze.

A warning message flashed.

UNREGISTERED TEMPORAL AUTHORITY DETECTED

ORIGIN CODE ACTIVE

Rohan stared.

"…That sounds illegal."

Aelina ignored him.

Her voice was quieter now.

"The Origin Code is no longer dormant."

Aarav frowned.

"Explain that in normal human language."

Mira folded her arms.

"It means the thing inside your DNA just woke up."

Still not comforting.

Selene stepped forward.

Unlike the others, she did not look surprised.

Only resigned.

As if she had already known this moment would come.

She stopped directly in front of him.

Close.

Too close.

Her golden eyes held his.

"In every future timeline, there is a moment when the Origin awakens."

Her voice was low.

Steady.

"This was yours."

Aarav swallowed.

"And what exactly did I awaken?"

Selene answered without hesitation.

"Authority."

The word hit harder than expected.

Not strength.

Not power.

Authority.

Aelina expanded the hologram.

A glowing model of his DNA appeared again, but now the golden sequence pulsed brighter.

"This is not simply advanced genetics."

She looked at him carefully.

"It is a command structure embedded into biological evolution itself."

Rohan raised a hand.

"Teacher, I am failing science."

Mira, somehow, explained.

"His existence is a control point."

She pointed at Aarav.

"Future bio-humans, temporal systems, adaptive evolution—all of it recognises him at the deepest level."

A pause.

"Reality treats him like an administrator."

Silence.

Then Rohan whispered,

"…Bro got promoted by the universe."

Honestly?

That was the best explanation so far.

Aarav rubbed his forehead.

"So I can stop giant death robots with… admin privileges?"

Mira actually nodded.

"Yes."

He stared.

"I hate how that makes sense."

The Titan Hunter suddenly twitched.

Everyone turned.

Its red core flared violently.

Not dead.

Of course not.

Because peace was illegal.

Selene's hand tightened around her sword.

But before she could move, the Titan Hunter's chest opened.

A hidden black device emerged from inside.

Small.

Sphere-shaped.

Covered in shifting red code.

Aelina's face changed instantly.

"No…"

Mira's voice dropped.

"Data seed."

The sphere hovered in the air.

A distorted voice filled the chamber.

Not mechanical.

Not human.

Cold enough to freeze thought itself.

"Origin confirmed."

The lights flickered.

The temperature dropped.

Even Selene's expression hardened.

Aarav knew without being told.

This voice.

This presence.

The Null Sovereign.

The sphere turned toward him.

"So this is the one they chose."

Aarav clenched his fists.

"You've been trying really hard to kill me for someone who talks so much."

Rohan whispered,

"He's flirting with the final boss."

A terrible habit, apparently.

The voice continued.

"You should have remained asleep."

"Your existence destabilises perfection."

Golden light flickered faintly beneath Aarav's skin again.

This time, he didn't step back.

"Then maybe perfection was the problem."

For the first time, silence answered him.

Then—

The voice laughed.

A sound without warmth.

Without humanity.

"Interesting."

"No wonder they all choose you."

The sphere turned slightly.

Toward Aelina.

Toward Mira.

Toward Selene.

Its voice sharpened.

"Tell me, my failed daughters…"

"Will you protect him…"

"When he becomes the reason your futures die?"

The words struck like a weapon.

Aelina's face paled.

Mira's nanoshards trembled.

Even Selene's expression darkened.

Aarav looked between them.

"What does that mean?"

No one answered.

That silence was louder than anything.

The sphere pulsed again.

"Ask them what happens at the end."

"Ask them who stands at the final battlefield."

"Ask them whose hands are covered in blood."

Then the device began overloading.

Aelina shouted,

"Move!"

Selene grabbed Aarav.

Mira pulled Rohan.

The sphere exploded in a storm of red light.

The shockwave tore through the ruined vault.

When the light faded—

It was gone.

Only silence remained.

And one horrifying question.

Aarav slowly looked at the three girls.

His voice was quiet.

Dangerously quiet.

"What does it mean?"

No one answered immediately.

Then Selene finally spoke.

And her voice carried no comfort.

Only truth.

"It means, Aarav…"

"In one future, you are the hero."

She paused.

Rain echoed above.

Her golden eyes never left his.

"And in another…"

"You are the final villain."
