Chapter 18 - Names Written in Blood and Bond

The figure across the street didn't move.

Just watched.

Like it already knew everything Adrian was about to do.

Adrian slowly stepped back from the sidewalk, his pulse steady but sharp.

"…Yeah," he muttered. "That's definitely not a normal person."

He turned and walked back into the building.

The moment the door shut behind him, all four of them were already waiting.

Like they had felt it too.

The red-eyed woman was closest to the center of the room. The shadowed woman leaned against the darkness again. The third woman sat casually on the edge of a broken desk. The man stood apart, arms crossed, watching him like he already knew something had gone wrong.

Adrian looked at all of them.

Then exhaled.

"…Alright," he said. "We need to talk."

The red-eyed woman tilted her head slightly. "You saw it."

"Yeah," Adrian replied. "Someone. Watching me. Directly."

The man's expression tightened slightly. "So it begins."

Adrian frowned. "That's not reassuring."

The third woman sighed softly. "It was only a matter of time."

Adrian raised a hand. "Okay, pause. Before we jump into doom predictions—"

He looked at them one by one.

"…I don't even know your names."

Silence.

That actually stopped the room.

The shadowed woman blinked once. "Our names?"

"Yeah," Adrian said. "You all know mine. You keep telling me I'm the anchor, the variable, the doorway, whatever that means—but I don't even know what to call you."

The red-eyed woman stared at him for a moment.

Then, surprisingly, she nodded slightly.

"…Fair," she said.

Adrian blinked. "That was easier than I expected."

The third woman smiled faintly. "He's right."

The man looked away slightly. "Names matter."

Adrian pointed at him. "See? Even mystery guy agrees."

The red-eyed woman exhaled slowly.

Then she stepped forward.

"I am Lirael."

Adrian repeated it quietly. "Lirael."

She nodded once.

Then the shadowed woman spoke.

"I am Selene."

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly. "Selene… like the moon?"

A faint pause.

"…Yes," she said.

The third woman leaned forward slightly, resting her chin on her hand.

"I am Niamh."

Adrian nodded slowly. "Okay… those are all way too elegant for my current situation."

None of them responded to that.

Adrian turned to the man.

He raised both hands slightly. "Let me guess. Also something ancient and intimidating?"

The man gave him a flat look.

"…Kael."

Adrian blinked. "Just Kael?"

"Yes."

Adrian nodded. "Honestly? Respect. Simple name in a complicated room."

Silence settled again.

Then Adrian exhaled.

"…Alright. Now that I know your names, I'm going to ask something else."

Lirael's eyes sharpened slightly. "Be careful what you ask."

Adrian ignored that.

"What are you?"

That question changed the air immediately.

Selene's gaze darkened slightly.

Niamh stopped smiling.

Kael looked away, as if already expecting this moment.

Lirael was the first to answer.

"I am vampire."

Adrian blinked. "Okay. Straight to the point."

He paused.

"…Wait. Like actual vampire?"

"Yes," she said.

Adrian stared at her for a second longer.

"…That explains the eyes," he muttered.

Selene stepped forward slightly.

"I am not of your world's mythology," she said. "But your closest reference would be the children of Nyx."

Adrian frowned. "Nyx… Greek night goddess?"

Niamh nodded faintly. "Yes."

Adrian exhaled slowly. "So you're basically… darkness lineage."

"In simplest terms," she said.

He turned to Niamh.

"And you?"

She tilted her head slightly.

"My origin is older than your categories," she said. "But your world would associate me with pantheons like Norse or Egyptian."

Adrian raised an eyebrow. "That's two very different mythologies."

"That is your limitation," she replied calmly.

Adrian let out a short breath. "Right. Got it. I'm the limited one here."

Then he looked at Kael.

"You still haven't explained yourself."

Kael crossed his arms.

"I am human," he said simply.

Adrian narrowed his eyes. "That feels like a lie."

"It isn't."

Lirael glanced at Kael briefly, then added, "He is… outside the bond."

Adrian paused. "Outside?"

Niamh nodded slightly. "He is with us. Not bound to us."

Selene added quietly, "A friend."

Adrian processed that slowly.

"…So let me get this straight," he said. "You three are connected to me through this bond thing I still don't fully understand…"

Lirael nodded. "Yes."

"And you're saying… it's not just connection."

Silence.

Then Niamh spoke softly.

"It is marriage."

Adrian froze.

"…Come again?"

Lirael didn't flinch. "Through the bond, we are bound to you."

Selene's voice was calm, but firm. "Not metaphorically."

Niamh added gently, "It is a complete soul-link. Recognition. Union."

Adrian stared at all three of them.

Then slowly pointed at himself.

"…I just want to confirm something," he said. "You're saying I'm married to all three of you."

"Yes," Lirael said.

"Yes," Selene confirmed.

"Yes," Niamh said softly.

A long silence followed.

Adrian blinked twice.

Then exhaled.

"…That's a lot to process before lunch."

Kael finally spoke again. "The bond chose resonance compatibility. Not social structure."

Adrian pointed at him. "You're not helping, but I appreciate the attempt."

Lirael stepped closer.

"This is why you are central," she said. "You are the convergence point."

Adrian rubbed his forehead. "Yeah, I heard that part too."

Selene's gaze sharpened slightly. "And now it is no longer only us."

Adrian lowered his hand. "Because of him outside."

Kael nodded once.

"And because of what you are," he added.

Adrian frowned. "Which is?"

Silence.

Then Niamh answered softly.

"Part vampire."

That hit the room differently.

Adrian froze slightly.

"…Excuse me?"

Lirael stepped closer. "Your bloodline is not purely human."

Selene added, "We felt it from the beginning."

Kael nodded. "That is why the bond accepted you so quickly."

Adrian stared at them.

"…I'm part vampire," he repeated slowly.

"Yes," Lirael said.

Adrian let out a short laugh.

"That would've been useful information like… when I was about to die."

No one responded.

Because none of them were laughing.

Adrian slowly lowered his hand.

"…So let me get this straight," he said again. "Vampires exist. Night-goddess descendants exist. Other pantheon-linked beings exist. And I'm part vampire, bonded—married—to three supernatural beings, while a fourth human friend is standing over there like he's just… vibing outside all this."

Kael nodded once. "Accurate summary."

Adrian exhaled.

"…I hate how accurate that is."

Then—

A faint shift in the air.

Everyone turned instantly.

Kael's eyes sharpened.

Lirael went still.

Selene's expression darkened.

Niamh's calm faded.

Adrian felt it too.

That pressure again.

But different.

Not a breach.

Not echoes.

Something watching from further away.

Kael spoke quietly. "He is not alone."

Lirael's voice dropped. "There are more."

Adrian clenched his fist slightly.

"…Of course there are."

Selene stepped closer. "And now they know what you are."

Adrian looked down at his hand.

Then slowly back up.

"…Then I guess introductions are over," he said quietly.

The bond inside him pulsed once.

Not unstable.

Not wild.

But aware.

And somewhere beyond the city—

Beyond myth.

Beyond gods.

Beyond vampire and shadow and forgotten pantheons—

Something else began to move toward him.

And now it finally had a name to follow.
