The restaurant was quiet that evening, with soft music playing in the background as Isabella and Nathan sat across from each other.
Their food had already been served, but Isabella barely touched hers. She kept staring at her phone, her brows drawn together.
Nathan noticed.
"You've hardly eaten."
Isabella looked up and forced a small smile. "I'm sorry. I just can't stop thinking about Loretta."
Nathan studied her face. "Because of the police statement?" He had also been paying attention to the news.
Isabella nodded slowly. "Yes. Something about it doesn't feel right."
"What do you mean?" Nathan asked. After all, no matter how much influence the Goodman family had, they could not have manipulated the police into releasing such a statement.
Isabella lowered her voice. "They said they established Loretta's whereabouts, but they didn't say much more than that. Is she well or alive?"
Nathan frowned. "They said she wasn't missing and wasn't under threat. Isn't that enough?"
