Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: The Dragon’s Den in the Capital

The Capital was a sprawling beast of grey stone and golden opportunities. Unlike the small town, where a Hongqi car was a legend, here they were common sights outside the heavy vermillion gates of the old courtyard houses. Li Hua watched the city through the window the wide boulevards, the towering construction cranes, and the thousands of people moving with an urgency she had never seen before.

[Ding! New Location Detected: The Capital (Level 2 Zone).]

Li Hua felt the familiar heat of the system's energy. At 68kg, she was no longer "the fat girl." She was "the curvy goddess." Her waist was cinched, her jawline was sharp as a blade, and her eyes held the depth of a woman who had lived two lifetimes.

"The woman you are about to meet is my grandmother, Old Madam Ye," Ye Feng said, his voice unusually tense. He was adjusting his silver-rimmed glasses, a sign of his internal discomfort. "She is the true power behind the Ye Group. She hates waste, she hates weakness, and she particularly hates... outsiders."

"Then it's a good thing I'm an investor, not an outsider," Li Hua replied, her voice cool and steady.

The car pulled into a private estate hidden behind high grey walls. The "Ye Mansion" was a masterpiece of Qing dynasty architecture mixed with modern luxury. As Li Hua stepped out, she was greeted by two rows of servants in traditional uniforms.

Inside the dining hall, the air was thick with the scent of sandalwood and ancient secrets. Sitting at the head of a massive rosewood table was a woman who looked like she was carved from ivory. Old Madam Ye wore a high-collared silk qipao, her hair pulled back in a silver bun held by a jade pin. Beside her sat Ye Meiling, Ye Feng's cousin—a slender, sharp-tongued woman who looked at Li Hua as if she were a piece of mud on a silk rug.

"So," Old Madam Ye spoke, her voice like the dry rustle of autumn leaves. "This is the 'genius' from the provinces you've been spending the Ye Group's resources on, Feng-er?"

Ye Meiling let out a tinkling, malicious laugh. "Grandmother, look at her! She looks like a country bumpkin who found a tailor's scrap pile. And her figure... my goodness, does she eat the textile factory's surplus for breakfast?"

The servants snickered. Ye Feng's hand tightened into a fist on the table, but before he could speak, Li Hua stepped forward. She didn't bow. She didn't stammer. She used her 'Vogue' Vision to scan the room.

"Madam Ye," Li Hua said, her voice resonant and clear. "I've spent the last three days studying the textile markets of the North. I've seen the declining quality of the Ye Group's silk exports. I didn't realize you were also suffering from a decline in... hospitality."

The room went deathly silent. Ye Meiling's face turned purple. "How dare you! You're a beggar in our house!"

"A beggar?" Li Hua walked toward the table, her steps rhythmic and graceful. She looked at Old Madam Ye's silk qipao. "This silk is from the Song Group's southern stockpile. It's been treated with chemical softeners to hide the fact that the threads are brittle. In two hours, the friction from your movement will cause the seams at your shoulder to fray."

Old Madam Ye's eyes narrowed. "Nonsense. This was made by the capital's finest tailor."

"Then the finest tailor is cheating you," Li Hua said. She reached into her leather bag—her 'Spatial Storage'—and pulled out a sample of her 'Li-Steel' bamboo blend. It was a soft, shimmering lavender color. "Feel this. This is the future of the Ye Group's survival. It's what I'm here to offer."

Old Madam Ye hesitated, then touched the fabric. Her fingers, which had handled the finest silks for eighty years, suddenly stilled. Her expression shifted from disdain to deep, professional intrigue.

"This... this isn't silk," the Old Madam whispered. "But it has the soul of silk and the strength of hemp."

"It has the soul of the 90s, Madam," Li Hua replied.

[Ding! 'Reputation' with Old Madam Ye: +1000 (Impressed!).]

"Grandmother, don't be fooled!" Ye Meiling shrieked, standing up. "She's just a fat girl with a trick! She probably stole that from a foreign lab!"

Li Hua looked at Meiling, her gaze traveling from the girl's expensive dress to her face. "Miss Meiling, your dress is beautiful. Truly. But it's two sizes too small for your lung capacity. If you keep shouting, you're going to pop a button. And considering the quality of that Song Group silk... it's going to be a very embarrassing evening."

POP.

As if the System itself had willed it, a pearl button from Meiling's chest snapped under the pressure of her rage, flying across the room and landing in the soup tureen with a splash. The silk at her side ripped with a loud, ugly skreech.

Meiling screamed, clutching her chest as her dress began to unravel in real-time.

"Feng-er," Old Madam Ye said, ignoring her granddaughter's hysterics. "Your friend has a sharp eye. And a sharp tongue. I like her."

She looked at Li Hua, her gaze no longer icy, but evaluating. "Sit. Let's talk about this 'Li-Steel'. If it's as strong as your spirit, the Ye family might have a place for you after all."

[Ding! Mission Success! Respect of the Matriarch won!]

[Rewards Issued: -3kg Weight Loss, 'Elite Etiquette' Mastery!]

[Current Weight: 65kg!]

As Li Hua sat down, she felt her body shift again. Her waist felt like a hand could span it, and her posture became naturally aristocratic. Under the table, she felt Ye Feng's hand find hers. He squeezed it once a gesture of pure, unadulterated admiration.

"Well played, Boss Li," he whispered.

"I told you, Mr. Ye," she replied, her eyes fixed on the Old Madam. "The small pond was too cramped. I think I'll like the Capital."
