Chapter 1 - The Birthday Doll's Secret

John was a successful businessman who lived a fast-paced life in the city. To provide his family with a peaceful life, he bought a grand, old mansion on the outskirts of the town. His wife, Mary, and their young daughter, Mia, soon moved in, hoping for a fresh start.

Mia was a quiet girl in the fourth grade. Back in their village, she had no friends, and things didn't seem to change in the city school either. She felt like an invisible ghost wandering through the hallways.

One day, Mia noticed a girl sitting on the bench right behind her. The girl wore a large hat that completely veiled her face. Mia, curious and hopeful, asked for her name. No response.

Mia thought the girl was arrogant, but then she noticed something chilling: No other student looked at the girl. Even the teacher acted as if that seat was empty. Mia gathered her courage and asked again.

"My name is Lilly," a tiny, hollow voice whispered.

"Why do you hide your face?" Mia asked.

"You don't need to know that," Lilly replied coldly. Despite the eeriness, Mia asked if they could be friends. Lilly hesitated but eventually agreed. "Don't tell your parents about me," Lilly warned. Mia promised.

Mia's birthday arrived. The celebrations began at 10:00 PM. She cut the cake with her parents, but her eyes were fixed on the clock. It was 11:30 PM. She slipped away to the back door, hoping to see Lilly, but the yard was empty and silent.

Disappointed, she went back. Suddenly, she felt a presence. A dark silhouette was circling the house. Mia ran to the front door and opened it. There stood Lilly. She handed Mia a beautifully wrapped box.

"Happy Birthday, Mia," Lilly whispered before vanishing into the night. Inside the box was a strange, vintage doll. Mia hugged it tight and fell asleep in her room.

That night, Mary had a terrifying dream. She saw a girl circling their house and handing Mia a box. Then, the girl walked into the deep woods and vanished into thin air. Mary woke up gasping for air.

Suddenly, strange scratching noises echoed through the house. She woke John, and they followed the sound to a storeroom next to Mia's room. Inside, they found several crates. When they opened them, their hearts skipped a beat—the crates were filled with hundreds of identical dolls, exactly like the one Mia received. Terrified, John and Mary dragged the crates into the forest and dumped them.

The next morning, Mia was playing with her doll. When John saw it, he turned pale. In a fit of rage and fear, he snatched the doll and hurled it deep into the forest. Later that day, Mary found the same doll back in Mia's room while cleaning. She froze but tried to ignore it.

At exactly midnight, a blood-curdling scream pierced the silence. It came from Mia's room. John and Mary burst in and saw a horrific sight—Mia was hanging from the ceiling, drenched in blood.

The police arrived, and an investigation began. While the house was in chaos, Mary and John went to their room, only to see Mia walking out of their bathroom, perfectly fine. It was an impossible, terrifying hallucination.

Mia told her parents everything about Lilly and the strange warnings. That night, Mia had a vision. She saw a young girl on a mountaintop with her family. The girl was mute and couldn't speak. While her family laughed at the edge of the cliff, the girl saw a rope on a tree turn into a venomous snake. She tried to scream, but no sound came out. The snake bit her.

When she woke up, she was different. Something dark had taken over her. In a possessed trance, she pushed her family off the cliff, and then someone—or something—pushed her down as well..

The next morning, a frantic man ran to their house. He told John that the bodies of a family who went missing weeks ago were found at the bottom of a nearby cliff. Mia realized her dream was the truth.

She ran outside and screamed into the wind, "I know it's you, Lilly! Or whatever demon is inside you! Why are you doing this?" A violent wind erupted, nearly knocking her down.

At midnight, Mia saw the doll sitting on her windowsill, staring at her with glass eyes. John told Mary and Mia to lock themselves in a room while he went to investigate. Looking out the window, John saw a girl hanging from a tree in the yard. He took a photo on his phone, but as he turned around, he felt a cold hand on his shoulder.

In the locked room, Mia waited. When her mother didn't return from checking on John, Mia opened the door. There, standing right in front of her, was the doll. Mia collapsed in terror.

Mia opened her eyes to the morning sun. Her mother was there, smiling. "It's over, Mia. Lilly was possessed by an ancient spirit. She is in the hospital now, and the doctors say she is recovering. The curse is broken."

In the hospital, Lilly wept as she remembered how the spirit had used her to destroy her own family. But with the demon gone, her voice finally returned. The nightmare was finally over.
