Chapter 3 - Her,Him,Pain.

HER HIM PAIN

CHAPTER 3 — "Truth at the Door"

The door swung open.

And for a moment—nobody moved.

He stood there first.

Frozen.

Like his brain refused to connect what his eyes were seeing.

Her.

Standing on his porch.

Tears on her face.

Breathing uneven, like she had been running for miles even though she hadn't moved an inch.

And in her eyes—

something dangerous.

Something unfinished.

"…What are you doing here?" he finally asked, voice low, confused.

Before she could answer, another presence stepped into view.

His wife.

She pulled the door open further, not realizing at first what she was walking into.

Then she saw her.

And everything in her expression shifted.

Not just confusion.

But protection.

Instinct.

Because she was pregnant too.

Her hand moved slightly to her stomach without thinking, as if her body remembered before her mind did.

The silence between all three of them stretched.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

Unreal.

The woman on the porch slowly reached into her pocket.

Her fingers shook as she pulled out the pregnancy test.

Not hidden.

Not covered.

Just truth.

She looked at him directly.

"I didn't come here to argue," she said softly.

Her voice cracked, but she didn't stop.

"I came here because you deserve to see this."

She let it fall.

The test hit the floor between them.

A small plastic object.

But it landed like a bomb.

His eyes dropped instantly.

Then widened.

His face changed—shock turning into confusion, confusion turning into something closer to panic.

"…No," he whispered.

His wife looked down too.

Then back at him.

Slowly.

"…What is this?" she asked, her voice rising. "What is going on with you?"

He didn't answer fast enough.

That silence was enough.

Her breathing got sharper.

"You're not serious right now," she said, stepping forward slightly. "Tell me you're not serious."

But he still wasn't speaking.

Still staring at the test on the ground.

Like it was rewriting everything he thought he knew about his life.

The woman on the porch wiped her face quickly, anger breaking through the sadness.

"I'm pregnant," she said.

No hesitation.

No softness.

Just truth.

The words hit harder than the silence before them.

His wife froze completely.

Her hand went fully to her stomach now.

Protective.

Stunned.

"No…" she said quietly, shaking her head. "No, you don't get to just show up here with that and—"

She stopped.

Looked at him again.

Really looked at him.

"…Tell me she's lying," she said.

But he still couldn't speak.

That was the answer.

The porch went silent again.

Except now it wasn't empty silence.

It was destruction.

Three people standing in the same space…

each realizing their lives were not what they thought they were.

And the woman on the porch didn't look away.

Not once.

Because she didn't come here for comfort.

She came here for truth.

And now that she had delivered it…

she was waiting to see what would survive it.
