BMG: Chapter 6: Wanted: Jiang Chen — the World Has Already Changed!

The incident of Jiang Chen contracting two Genin and being publicly dumped by Chen Chuxi spread like wildfire online.

An avalanche of posts flooded every major platform, quickly overtaking the trending charts. Some even spilled onto foreign networks, becoming the talk of dinner tables across the world.

[Breaking: A max-level talent Professional from the Dragon Kingdom contracts two Genin, gets kicked out by his fiancée, and loses everything overnight!]

[Unbelievable! A max-level talent from Jinghai City, Dragon Kingdom, turns out to be completely unhinged!]

[The 'broken engagement' arc returns — thirty years the river flows east, thirty years it flows west. Will Jiang Chen stage a comeback?]

[The abandoned 'Kage-level powerhouse': the Jinghai Chen family loses both their prized daughter and their son-in-law in one fell swoop!]

[Exclusive: Jinghai City's max-level talent reduced to laughingstock — dumped and immediately swept away by a mysterious woman!]

Back at the Chen family residence in Jinghai City, Chen Chuxi's father, Chen Zhentian, wasted no time. The moment his daughter returned, he summoned all the family elders for a closed-door meeting.

Two matters were on the table.

The first concerned Chen Chuxi's cultivation. She was the only person in all of Jinghai City to have contracted a Kage-level stone statue, and her potential was limitless. Chen Zhentian announced that the Chen family would pour every available resource into her development. Not a single elder objected.

The world had changed, after all. Ever since conventional weapons had lost their effectiveness, the authority's deterrent power had crumbled along with them. This was now an era ruled by families and organizations. If Chen Chuxi could reach level 100 and fully unlock the contracted attributes within her, she would become a true Kage-level powerhouse — and at that point, not just Jinghai City, but the entire Dragon Kingdom would have to reckon with the Chen family. An opportunity like this came once in a generation. Who would dare refuse?

The second matter was a wanted notice for Jiang Chen.

Since the world had changed, the Chen family had stood as the dominant force in Jinghai City. Jiang Chen had lived under their roof for three years, eaten their food, and in the end delivered nothing in return. That alone was enough to make Chen Zhentian's blood boil — to say nothing of the humiliation his daughter had endured at the contract ceremony. He wanted retribution.

His decision was simple: capture Jiang Chen at any cost and put him to work for the Chen family for the rest of his life. A Genin Contractor wasn't much use in a fight, but he could at least guard a gate. And if he refused — well, in Jinghai City, no one would dare say a word if the Chen family chose to make an example of someone. Not even if Jiang Chen had already joined the City Lord's Mansion.

On the other side of the city, Jiang Chen followed Li Yanran directly to the City Lord's Mansion after leaving school.

Unlike the major family factions, the City Lord's Mansion was an organization for Professionals established by the authorities. Most of its members, like Jiang Chen, had been recruited directly.

"The welfare system here is tiered according to Professional level," Li Yanran explained as she led him deeper into the compound. "You've just completed the contract ceremony and your base level is 10, so you'd normally qualify for Tier 1 welfare — a monthly meal stipend and Secret Realm entry rights. At Tier 2, you'd also receive weapons and throwing tools."

"Throwing tools?"

Jiang Chen's ears perked up. Sasuke's skill template included several techniques that relied heavily on thrown weapons. He had been quietly wondering where he'd source them. Getting them for free hadn't crossed his mind.

"Yes — but you'd need to be level 20 first."

"Then I qualify right now."

Jiang Chen revealed his character panel without ceremony.

[Professional Level: 20]

Li Yanran blinked, then rubbed her eyes. "You — you're already level 20?"

Jiang Chen smiled faintly and said nothing.

Li Yanran stood there for a moment, genuinely at a loss. Under normal circumstances, a max-level talent Professional exited the contract ceremony at level 10. How had Jiang Chen doubled that?

Then it clicked. He had contracted two characters simultaneously — that must have doubled his starting level as well. That would also explain how he sent Wang Hao flying with a single punch.

Still... was a slight early-stage advantage really worth giving up a Kage-level contract? She still wasn't sure she understood him.

"So," Jiang Chen said calmly, "can I claim the Tier 2 welfare now?"

Li Yanran shook herself out of it. "Yes — level 20 qualifies you. Come on."

By the time they finished talking, they had reached the resource storage room. Two Professionals stood guard at the entrance. Jiang Chen could sense their presence immediately — both were above level 40 and had contracted subjects. As expected of an authority-backed organization; even the guards were formidable.

"Miss."

Both men bowed the moment they saw Li Yanran.

Jiang Chen glanced at her. "They called you 'Miss'?"

"Because my father is the City Lord."

Jiang Chen exhaled slowly. "Great. Another one."

"Excuse me?"

"Nothing. I just didn't expect you to hold such a position here."

"My father asked me to keep my identity quiet until I came of age. No one at school knows. You're the first."

"Then I'm truly honored," Jiang Chen said, with a slightly awkward smile.

He followed her into the storage room. Cold weapons lined the walls — shuriken, kunai, and katanas of various sizes, all lightweight and well-suited to Ninja-style combat. With Li Yanran vouching for him, Jiang Chen walked out with exactly what he needed: a two-foot katana and ten refined iron shuriken.

After that, Li Yanran brought him to meet her father — City Lord Li Hongfei.

Jiang Chen had heard the name before. Li Hongfei and Chen Zhentian were widely regarded as the two strongest Professionals in Jinghai City, both sitting at level 86 and both having contracted Jonin. Their power was not to be taken lightly.

When they entered the City Lord's office, however, Li Hongfei was standing at the window with his back to them, staring out with a deeply troubled expression.

Li Yanran immediately sensed something was wrong. She stepped past Jiang Chen and hurried over. "Dad, what happened? Is something the matter?"

At the sound of his daughter's voice, Li Hongfei turned around — and his gaze landed on Jiang Chen.

His mind went momentarily blank.

He had seen the trending posts, of course. He knew all about the young man who had been publicly dumped at the contract ceremony after contracting two Genin, and who had subsequently been swept away by some mysterious woman.

He just hadn't expected that the mysterious woman in question was his own daughter.
