"You're going to have to stop looking like somebody died."
I glanced over at him. "I was kidnapped."
"That's fair," he replied, "but still…"
I turned and stared at him fully, waiting for the rest of whatever brilliant point he was trying to make. But of course he's going to leave it hanging like that.
The SUV kept rolling down the highway. That was the first real conversation we'd had in twenty minutes. Honestly, I appreciated it. The silence hadn't been awkward.
Callum drove. I sat in the passenger seat watching trees blur past the window. The farther we got from Moonless Order's camp, from Warwick and what was left of his men and 'territory', the easier it became to breathe.
Callum tapped the steering wheel but said anything just yet.
I let out a long sigh. "Are you going to say anything?"
He glanced over me. "You missed some interesting meetings."
"Did I?"
"The Assembly nearly lost its collective mind." That got my attention, so I looked at him.
