Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 Battle of New York

Loki walked out of the dark room and stepped onto the large outdoor balcony.

He looked down at the screaming people running away in the streets.

He was ready to show them his power.

But suddenly, a heavy thud shook the balcony.

Thor landed right in front of him.

The God of Thunder held his hammer tight, his face full of sadness and anger.

"Brother,"

Thor said, his deep voice echoing in the night.

"Stop this madness. Come home with me."

Loki rolled his eyes.

"I don't have a home,"

Loki replied coldly, raising his glowing blue scepter.

Before Loki could attack, a soft, humming sound filled the air.

Sam floated down from the dark sky.

He was not wearing heavy armor or using a jetpack.

He was standing calmly on top of a glowing pink flying sword.

Loki looked at Sam. His eyes narrowed with deep annoyance.

He remembered this mortal. Sam was the one who had ruined his mind-control plan on Clint Barton.

"You,"

Loki hissed, glaring at Sam.

"The mortal who thinks he is a god. You have been a thorn in my side for far too long."

Loki smiled a wicked smile. His body suddenly blurred.

In the blink of an eye, ten different Lokis appeared on the balcony.

They all looked exactly the same, holding ten glowing scepters, laughing at Sam and Thor.

It was his master trick. The art of illusion.

But Sam just sighed and shook his head.

To a normal human, the trick was flawless. But Sam had a Golden Core.

His spiritual sense could easily see the real soul hiding among the fake shadows.

"Illusions?"

Sam asked, sounding almost bored.

"That is a very cheap trick."

Sam didn't even step off his sword.

He just swung his right hand forward.

Instantly, the single flying sword beneath his feet began to vibrate. It multiplied.

One sword turned into ten. Ten turned into fifty.

In a matter of seconds, hundreds of glowing pink swords filled the air around the balcony.

With a simple thought from Sam, all the swords shot forward like lightning.

They completely ignored the fake illusions and instantly surrounded the real Loki.

The sharp, glowing blades pointed directly at Loki's neck, chest, and back. If he moved even an inch, he would be sliced to pieces.

The fake illusions vanished into thin air. Loki dropped his hands, completely surprised.

He had lived for hundreds of years, but he had never seen magic like this.

Sam could see right through him, and beat him without even trying.

But then, Loki started to laugh.

It was a dark, crazy laugh.

He looked at the hundreds of swords pointing at him and just smiled.

"Bravo,"

Loki clapped his hands slowly.

"You caught me. You are very strong. But you are also too late."

Thor stepped forward, gripping his hammer.

"Where is the Tesseract, Loki?"

Thor demanded.

"It is not with me,"

Loki smirked, his eyes shining with wild victory.

"I gave it to a mortal. He is on top of a very tall building right now. He is opening the portal for my army as we speak. You caught me, but Earth will still fall."

Loki waited for Sam to panic. He wanted to see fear in the Cultivator's eyes.

But Sam didn't panic. He just smiled back.

"I know,"

Sam said calmly.

"I let you give it to him. Everything is exactly inside my calculation."

Loki's smile froze. He looked at Sam in total confusion.

"What are you talking about?"

Loki asked, suddenly feeling a knot of dread in his stomach.

"Did you really think I didn't know your plan?"

Sam chuckled, waving his hand to pull the swords back.

"I knew the portal was going to open. I wanted it to open. We need to destroy your army so they never think about coming back here again."

Sam looked up at the sky.

Miles away in New York City, the portal was about to open.

But Loki's army was not going to find a weak, unprepared world.

Tony Stark was waiting in his Qi-enhanced Iron Man suit.

Steve and Peggy were standing together, their Yin and Yang energies perfectly balanced and ready for war.

Natasha was standing on a rooftop with her deadly flying daggers.

Bruce Banner was calm and ready.

And standing right beside them were Little H and Little D, two tiny wooden dolls holding massive, divine power.

The Avengers were ready to fight the invaders.

High above New York City, a massive blue portal tore the sky open.

Ugly, metal alien ships poured out like an angry swarm of bees.

But the Avengers were ready.

Down on the street, two tiny wooden dolls stood side by side.

Little H roared with his rough, tiny voice. He was fierce and completely invincible.

He jumped high into the air, smashing aliens with the force of a falling meteor.

His energy burned hot and wild, like bright lightning and roaring fire.

Right behind him was Little D. She was quiet and gentle.

She didn't smash. She danced.

Her tiny wooden hands moved with unpredictable grace.

Her magic flowed like cool water and sharp ice, freezing the aliens before they could even blink.

Fire and water. Lightning and ice.

The two little dolls protected the streets perfectly.

Above them, a sleek Iron Man suit flew through the alien swarm.

Tony didn't fire normal missiles or loud bombs.

He held out his metal hands, and bright, glowing laser swords extended from his wrists.

He moved gracefully, using the ancient sword arts Sam had taught him.

He sliced through the thick alien metal like it was soft butter.

"Take that, space bugs!"

Tony laughed through his radio.

"Sword magic beats space lasers every time."

On a bridge below, Steve and Peggy fought perfectly in sync.

They were wearing matching red, white, and blue Captain America outfits.

Steve threw his heavy vibranium shield, knocking down five aliens at once.

Before the shield even bounced back, Peggy aimed her weapon. It wasn't a normal gun.

She pushed her pure, ancient Qi into the barrel and pulled the trigger.

A massive blast of green energy shot out, wiping out an entire row of invaders.

"Nice shot, my love,"

Steve smiled, catching his shield.

"I had a very good teacher,"

Peggy winked back, her young, bright eyes full of life and energy.

On a tall rooftop, Natasha stood completely calm.

She held her hand out, guiding a single, glowing silver dagger through the air with her mind.

The dagger zoomed around the rooftop, smoothly cutting down any alien that got too close.

She sighed softly. She could not multiply her sword into hundreds like Sam did yet.

"One dagger is enough for now,"

Natasha muttered to herself.

"But I really need to practice more."

Suddenly, a sharp arrow flew past Natasha's head. It hit an alien right in the eye.

Clint Barton dropped down onto the roof next to her. He held his bow tight.

He looked tired, but his eyes were clear.

"Late to the party, Barton?"

Natasha asked with a small smile.

"Sorry,"

Clint said, his voice full of heavy shame.

"It took me a minute to find my bow."

He looked down at his hands. He hated that he had been brainwashed.

He hated feeling so weak and out of control.

"I can't ever let someone take over my mind again, Nat,"

Clint said seriously, looking at the alien army.

"You won't,"

Natasha promised him.

"Sam can teach you how to build a strong wall in your head."

Clint nodded slowly, pulling back his bowstring to shoot another arrow into the sky.

"I am going to ask him to teach me everything,"

Clint said firmly.

"The breathing, the magic... maybe even that Dual Cultivation thing you told me about."

Natasha raised an eyebrow and smirked at him.

"I will do it with my wife, of course,"

Clint added quickly, his face turning a little red.

"Laura would probably really love it."

Natasha laughed softly, her flying dagger dropping another alien to the ground.

"Focus on the aliens first, Clint,"

Natasha smiled.

"We have a world to save before you can go home to your wife."

Back on the balcony in Germany, Thor swung his heavy hammer.

Loki quickly dodged and pulled out a small dagger to strike back.

The two brothers clashed, fighting with years of pain and anger between them.

The sound of metal hitting metal echoed loudly in the night air.

Sam didn't step in. He stayed back, standing calmly on his flying sword.

"I will let you two talk,"

Sam said casually, watching them fight.

"This is a family matter. But I will be taking this."

Sam simply raised his hand. Using a quick pull of his Qi, the glowing blue scepter ripped right out of Loki's grip and flew perfectly into Sam's open hand.

Loki gasped, looking at his empty hands, but Thor immediately tackled him to the ground.

While the two gods wrestled, Sam's earpiece beeped loudly.

"Sam, do you read me?"

Nick Fury's voice came through the radio. He sounded more stressed than ever before.

"I hear you, Fury,"

Sam answered.

"What is going on?"

"The World Security Council went over my head,"

Fury said, his voice full of pure anger.

"They think the Avengers cannot win. They ordered a fighter jet to fire a nuclear missile directly at New York City. It will kill everyone. The aliens, our team, millions of innocent people... all of them."

Sam's eyes narrowed, but his voice stayed perfectly calm.

"Tell your people to relax, Fury,"

Sam said smoothly, gripping the scepter tight.

"I will deal with the nuke myself."

With a burst of pink light, Sam flew off the balcony.

His flying sword cut through the air faster than a fighter jet.

In just a few minutes, he crossed the ocean and arrived in the sky above New York.

He saw it instantly. A massive, deadly nuclear missile was flying straight toward the city.

Tony Stark was already flying toward it in his Iron Man suit, ready to grab it.

"I got this, Tony. Step back,"

Sam ordered through the radio.

Sam flew perfectly alongside the heavy missile.

He didn't need a metal suit to push it. He just released a thick wave of his powerful Qi, wrapping it around the missile like a giant, invisible hand.

He smoothly tilted the missile upward.

"Hold the line down there,"

Sam told the team.

He guided the nuclear bomb straight up, flying directly toward the massive blue hole in the sky.

He passed right through the portal and into the cold, dark emptiness of space.

In front of him was the massive Chitauri mother ship. Sam didn't hesitate.

With a strong push of his energy, he threw the nuclear missile directly at the giant alien ship.

*BOOM!*

A blinding, silent explosion lit up the dark space.

The mother ship was completely destroyed, and all the aliens on Earth instantly fell to the ground, disconnected and dead.

Before the fire could reach him, Sam quickly turned his flying sword around and dove back through the portal to Earth.

He landed smoothly on top of Stark Tower, right next to Dr. Erik Selvig and the loud machine keeping the portal open.

Sam looked at the machine, holding Loki's scepter in his hand.

The blue gem on the scepter glowed warmly, matching the energy of the Tesseract.

Without waiting, Sam pushed the tip of the scepter directly into the machine.

The energy instantly collapsed. The bright beam of light shut off, and the massive hole in the sky quickly shrank and disappeared.

The invasion was over.

Sam took a deep breath. He looked down at the streets below, watching the Avengers regroup.

His eyes found Peggy Carter. She was standing next to Steve, looking tired but incredibly proud.

They had saved the world again.

But Sam knew the peace wouldn't last long.

He had a very dark secret to share with her, and he knew it was going to break her heart.

He tapped his earpiece.

"Great job, everyone,"

Sam said calmly.

"Take a breath. But don't celebrate too hard. We have a lot of work to do."

"What do you mean, Sam?"

Peggy asked through the radio, wiping dust from her face.

"The aliens are gone."

"The aliens are gone, Peggy,"

Sam replied, his voice turning incredibly serious.

"But the real enemy is still here. I need you to stay calm when I tell you this."

Peggy frowned, sharing a worried look with Steve.

"Tell me what?"

Peggy demanded.

Sam told her the ugly truth.

"When you built S.H.I.E.L.D., they grew right inside it like a parasite. They have been hiding in your organization for seventy years."

The radio went completely dead silent.

Down on the street, Peggy froze.

Her hands slowly rolled into tight, shaking fists. The green Qi inside her body flared up with intense, burning anger.

She had given up her whole life to destroy Hydra, and they had been sleeping in her own house the entire time.

She wasn't just sad. She was absolutely furious.

"Sam,"

Peggy finally whispered, her voice cold and deadly.

"When everyone is rested... we are going hunting."
