Chapter 10 - learning depth

The days after Miller's return changed something in the mansion.

Not in rules.

Not in structure.

But in how people moved around each other.

Kael was no longer just a presence.

He was included.

Not officially, not openly—but naturally.

Silvi treated him like he had always been there. Conversations with her were easy. Direct. Sometimes silent, sometimes long, but never forced.

Misty was different.

She didn't accept things easily.

But she started showing up more. Sitting closer. Listening more than speaking. Trying to understand him without making it obvious.

And slowly, without anyone saying it—

they became close.

Not normal.

Not casual.

Something deeper.

Built on small moments.

On observation.

On trust that wasn't spoken out loud.

That afternoon, they were at the pool again.

Silvi was already in the water, moving freely.

Misty sat at the edge, her feet in the pool, watching Kael.

"You're still not getting in?" she asked.

Kael stood nearby, calm as always.

"No."

Silvi turned toward him with a faint smile.

"This is getting embarrassing now."

Kael didn't react.

"I don't need to swim."

Misty looked at him, amused.

"You don't need to?"

She stood up.

"Then today you're learning."

Before he could respond, she grabbed his wrist.

Not forceful.

But firm enough.

Silvi moved closer from inside the pool.

"Relax," she said. "We'll teach you."

Kael looked at both of them for a moment.

Then stepped forward.

Into the water.

Slowly.

The moment the water reached him, his posture changed slightly.

Subtle.

But visible.

Silvi noticed immediately.

"You're tense."

"I'm stable," Kael replied.

Misty rolled her eyes and stepped into the pool.

"Same thing."

She moved closer to him.

"Stop thinking so much."

Silvi moved behind him.

"Lean back," she said. "I've got you."

Misty stayed in front.

"Just trust."

Kael looked at the water for a second.

Then leaned back.

His balance shifted.

The water moved under him.

Unfamiliar.

Uncontrolled.

For a brief moment—

he wasn't fully steady.

But Silvi held him from behind.

Firm.

Reliable.

"You're fine," she said.

Misty watched closely.

"You trust us?" Silvi asked quietly.

Kael paused.

Then answered.

"Yes."

Simple.

No hesitation.

Silvi adjusted her hold slightly.

"Then let go."

Kael's body relaxed just a little.

Not fully.

But enough.

The water carried him.

Not perfectly.

But it held.

Misty smiled faintly.

"See? Not that hard."

Kael glanced at her.

"You're more patient than you act."

She blinked slightly.

Then laughed.

"Don't expect this every day."

Silvi slowly let go.

"Try on your own."

Kael adjusted his position.

Moved slightly.

Lost balance for a moment—

then corrected.

Not smooth.

Not clean.

But learning.

Both of them stayed close.

Without saying it.

Ready.

Just in case.

Time passed.

Attempts turned into small progress.

Silvi guiding.

Misty correcting.

Occasional laughter breaking the silence.

For the first time—

Kael wasn't fully calculating everything.

Not every movement.

Not every word.

Just being present.

And that itself was new.

Later, they sat at the edge of the pool.

Closer than before.

No distance left between them.

Misty leaned back slightly.

"You're improving."

Kael looked at the water.

"I adapt."

Silvi smiled.

"Same thing."

This time—

Kael didn't argue.

The sun slowly set behind the estate.

Light fading.

Shadows growing longer.

Three figures remained at the poolside.

Not just connected by circumstance anymore.

But by something quieter.

Something deeper.

Trust.

Unspoken.

But real.

And for Kael—

that might have been the most dangerous thing so far.
