Chapter 77
Seeing the evidence of the cubs' "greeting" on Wayne's arm, Euphoria couldn't help but laugh.
"Go wash up, you're a mess," she said with a warm smile, taking the cub from him.
Wayne leaned in to kiss her cheek, placed the glowing green crystals on the furs, and then shifted into his lion form to bound off toward the water. Now that the cubs had finished their business, Euphoria let them tumble and play freely across the animal skins.
As she watched them, her mind drifted. If Wayne had only just found the crystals, she must have been in a truly desperate state for someone else to step in. It had to be Hayes. She remembered him offering her a crystal once before, which she had refused. It explained why she felt so revitalized upon waking.
When Luce returned with a basin of warm water to help her wash, Euphoria looked at him directly. "Luce, it was Hayes who saved me, wasn't it?"
Luce hesitated, then gave a slow, silent nod.
