Chapter 87
The beast tide was a dark, thunderous presence looming on the horizon. Yu had spent the day agonizing over a solution, but the sheer scale of the migration was paralyzing. Direct confrontation seemed impossible; the only hope lay in diverting their leaders.
"Yu, take me to see them," Euphoria suggested. "If we observe them closely, we might find a weakness we missed."
Yu agreed. He arranged for a tribesman to watch the cubs and took Euphoria and a few scouts back toward the encroaching danger. From Yu's back, Euphoria looked down at what appeared to be a river of shifting ink—a massive, slow-moving column of black beasts.
As they flew lower, they identified two colossal yaks leading the charge. One was slightly smaller and stayed close to the larger male, their movements synchronized and affectionate.
"Look at the smaller one," Euphoria pointed. "That has to be the King's mate."
