Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Foundation

Morning came early.

Jared Alonzo was already awake.

No alarm.

No hesitation.

Objective: training.

He arrived at the gym before most people.

Coach Ramon was already there.

"…you're early," Ramon said.

"Efficiency."

Ramon smirked slightly.

"Or obsession."

Jared didn't respond.

"Warm up," Ramon said, tossing him a towel.

Jared followed.

Stretching.

Light cardio.

Controlled breathing.

Body condition: still recovering.

Performance: 78%.

"Too stiff," Ramon said, watching him.

"You think too much."

Jared paused.

"…thinking improves efficiency."

Ramon walked closer.

"And slows reaction."

Before Jared could respond—

Ramon suddenly threw a punch.

Fast.

Direct.

Jared's eyes widened—

He moved—

Too slow.

THUD!

The punch stopped just inches from his face.

Jared froze.

"See?" Ramon said calmly.

Silence.

Reaction time insufficient.

"…again," Jared said.

Ramon's eyes sharpened slightly.

"…good."

This time—

Jared focused.

Not on thinking.

But on instinct.

Ramon moved.

Another punch.

Jared reacted—

Moved his head slightly—

The punch brushed past him.

"…better," Ramon said.

Jared's breathing remained steady.

Adjustment successful.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Each time—

Jared improved.

Slightly.

But consistently.

Pattern recognition applied to movement.

"…you adapt fast," Ramon muttered.

Jared didn't answer.

Because—

He was already thinking ahead.

If I combine physical adaptation with mental prediction…

"…optimization."

After training—

Jared sat on a bench, catching his breath.

Sweat.

Pain.

Fatigue.

But—

Progress.

"…acceptable."

"You'll survive," Ramon said, handing him water.

"Survival is the minimum," Jared replied.

Ramon laughed slightly.

"Then you've got a long way to go."

Later—

Jared met Iris outside campus.

"You look worse," she said immediately.

"Improvement requires stress."

"That's not comforting."

They walked side by side.

"So," Iris said, "gym?"

"Yes."

"And?"

Jared paused.

"…necessary."

She glanced at him.

"…you're changing fast."

"Yes."

"…too fast."

Jared didn't respond.

Because—

He agreed.

That night—

Jared sat in front of his laptop again.

Balance:

₱3,420

But this time—

He didn't trade immediately.

New strategy required.

He opened multiple tabs.

Market trends.

Global news.

Economic shifts.

Bigger patterns.

"…not just small trades."

His eyes sharpened.

"…scaling begins now."

He invested.

Not all.

But most.

Minutes passed.

Then—

Movement.

₱3,420 → ₱4,800

Then—

₱4,800 → ₱6,200

Then—

₱6,200 → ₱9,100

Jared didn't blink.

Trend confirmed.

Hours later—

He leaned back.

Balance:

₱12,740

Silence.

"…sufficient for next phase."

But then—

His screen flickered.

Just for a second.

Jared's eyes narrowed.

"…unexpected."

A small window appeared.

Unknown source.

No text.

Just—

A blinking cursor.

Jared stared at it.

External interference?

Then—

Text appeared.

"You're improving quickly."

Silence.

Jared didn't panic.

Didn't react.

He typed back.

"Identify yourself."

A pause.

Then—

"Someone interested."

Jared's eyes sharpened.

Not random.

Not coincidence.

"How did you access this system?"

A few seconds.

Then—

"The same way you're breaking it."

Silence.

For the first time—

Jared felt something new.

Not fear.

But—

Challenge.

"…interesting."

The cursor blinked again.

"Let's see how far your intelligence can take you."

Then—

The window disappeared.

Jared stared at the screen.

Still.

Focused.

New variable introduced.

Unknown entity.

High-level capability.

A slow smile formed.

"…finally."

He closed the laptop.

Eyes calm.

"Something worth solving."
