Chapter 134 - 134 Two Worlds

Street performance is a very interesting thing because pedestrians are all strangers; they have no obligation to stop for a performer they don't care about. So sometimes, it's not rare for a performer to have no one in front of them at all, while at other times, the grand sight of dozens of people surrounding them is also common. To put it bluntly, this is the most brutal stage. But the most interesting part of street performance lies in this very point: the audience's reaction is so direct and real that performers can even interact with them at close range, thereby gaining richer performance experience. For the Glory to Death Band, almost all of their performances could be called street performances; the number of times they truly stood on a stage was few and far between, so Hugo was indeed all too familiar with street performance. However, today's performance was somewhat different because the musical performance was only a supporting element; the main event was the melodramatic soap opera in front, which was a brand-new experience for Hugo. Amidst a gathering of street performances like juggling, performance art, singing, and stunts, relying solely on a play to attract the attention of pedestrians was not that easy; it required the Actors to express the infectious power of the performance to the fullest. At the same time, the drain on the Actors' energy was particularly severe. When Hugo and Charlize finished work and returned home, both were so tired they collapsed onto the sofa, motionless. This afternoon's street performance had lasted nearly four hours in total, and the two had experimented five times. The consumption of physical and mental energy had reached its peak, leaving them only able to lie on the sofa like corpses.Hugo's brain was currently in a state of complete discharge. He had not only balanced performing and singing simultaneously but had also gained a preliminary understanding of scriptwriting. Today's performance couldn't really be called a script; it could only be called a series of sketches, and sketches with holes visible everywhere at that. This, however, let Hugo realize that the birth of a script or the conception of a story requires a complete system; it's not as if an inspiration pops into your head and then the story automatically perfects itself.Similarly, even though Hugo had countless story templates for classic movies released after 1992 in his head, it didn't mean he could just write them out. If an excellent story framework lacks outstanding dialogue to flesh it out, then that classic story inspiration can still be wasted; that was the principle."Why is the house so quiet?" Charlize was the first to react. Usually, Alex was the noisiest in the house, but they had been back for at least five minutes today and still hadn't heard Alex's voice. This was too abnormal.Hugo's stalled brain finally began to function. "Does he have an audition tonight?""I don't remember him mentioning it." Charlize recalled carefully. If there were an audition, Alex's personality made him very prone to nervousness; he would surely have rambled on about it at home for a long time.Hugo remembered Alex calling home in the morning, so he sat up and looked around. The two hadn't turned on the lights since they returned; the hall was brightly lit by moonlight. Although it didn't hinder vision, it was difficult to see details. Hugo struggled to stand up, walked to the entrance, and turned on the hall light. The creamy yellow glow immediately pushed the cold moonlight back to the window edge bit by bit. Then Hugo walked over to the telephone and indeed saw a message note. He picked it up to look and gestured to Charlize. "He went home for Thanksgiving." Although Alex hadn't said anything before, it was likely that the phone call this morning changed his mind."Joseph went back, and Alex went back too; this Thanksgiving has suddenly become lonely." Hugo leaned against the wall in a lazy posture. "I was originally thinking we'd all get together to make turkey." Back in China, he didn't have the habit of celebrating Thanksgiving. Hugo was quite curious about what the atmosphere of eating turkey for Thanksgiving was like; his original high expectations had fallen through today. "Sigh, it won't be just the two of us left when the holiday comes, will it?"A lone man and a lone woman—this was a situation they hadn't anticipated before. As soon as Hugo said this, the two looked at each other, silent for a moment, and then both burst into laughter simultaneously."Don't worry, Carl told me he's not going back for Thanksgiving; he's going home for Christmas too." Charlize pointed upstairs. "Maybe Carl's roommate will be there, and we can all get together."Hugo curled his lip. "I don't hold out much hope for that person." In the half-year since Hugo moved in, he had never once seen Joseph and Carl's roommate on the fourth floor; the person was like a ghost. "I seriously doubt if that person even exists." Hugo's eyes darted around, and he said in a low, eerie voice, "Or is it that only Joseph and Carl can see that person?"Charlize's eyes flashed, but she let out a disdainful snort. "You should have played this trick before the lights were turned on; it's ineffective now."Hugo suddenly felt it was dull. "If it weren't for the curves on your chest, I'd suspect you were a man." This sentence directly provoked a throw pillow to be hurled at him fiercely, making Hugo duck behind the wall in disarray, only to mumble another shout, "You proved it!"The "ring ring ring" of the telephone rang piercingly in the empty hall. Hugo had already gone back to his room to change, so he shouted from afar, "Answer the phone."Charlize was nestled exhaustedly on the sofa. After a groan, she finally stood up with great reluctance and walked with heavy steps to the telephone. "Hello, this is Theron. Who is calling?""Charlize, it's me, Carl." Carl's voice was usually very steady, but at this moment, it was somewhat irrepressible, as if it might take flight at any time, causing Charlize's tired brain to liven up. "I've found your first job! A job! A job! You have a job! I have a job too!" Carl's excited voice almost pierced through the receiver and drilled directly into Charlize's ear."What?" Charlize's entire brain lit up instantly. Her beautiful eyes couldn't help but widen, and her voice swept away the previous fatigue to soar directly. "What did you say?""A job, I said you have a job!" Carl still maintained a shred of calm, speaking quickly. "I found you a role in 'beverly hills, 90210.' For now, we've signed a three-episode guest contract. You'll join the crew next week!""Oh, God! Oh, God!" The smile between Charlize's brows was like a kite set free, flying wantonly across her exquisite face."Although it's just a guest role, it's considered a major role in these three episodes," Carl quickly explained further. "The future will depend on your performance. If you can satisfy the crew, it's not impossible to extend the life of this character!""Thank you, thank you, thank you! Carl, thank you!" Both Charlize and Carl were so excited they were beyond themselves. After hanging up the phone, Charlize immediately started screaming and jumping for joy on the spot."I have a job! I have a job!" Charlize kept jumping as if she were on a trampoline, then spun around several times in place, still unable to soothe the excitement in her heart. She only wanted to find someone to share her joy with, so she rushed directly toward Hugo's room. "Hugo! I have a job!"Charlize burst into the room and saw Hugo standing in the middle. Without much thought, Charlize rushed up and hugged Hugo, her whole body hanging from his neck as she screamed, "I finally have a job!" Since Charlize and Carl signed in April, this was the first job she had landed in seven months. This job was so hard-won that it made Charlize uncontrollably excited.Hugo was also infected by Charlize's high spirits. Holding Charlize, he began to spin around. "Congratulations! Congratulations!" Charlize's bell-like laughter scattered all over the room, making the cold night moonlight start to dance. The light on the sea horizon outside the window also leaped lightly on the crests of the waves; it was dazzlingly beautiful."What job? What job?" Hugo stopped and set Charlize down, looking deep into her eyes as he asked."'beverly hills, 90210'! A three-episode guest role." Charlize's voice could hardly suppress its joy.Debuting on Fox Television in 1990, 'beverly hills, 90210' was the most successful soap opera in the station's history. This series triggered countless heated discussions among teenagers across America. The story began with the protagonists' high school days; the series, crowded with handsome men and beautiful women, recounted the emotional experiences of wealthy children breaking up and getting back together in a slow-burn format. It was very cliché and melodramatic, but also very relatable, making it impossible for people to stop watching. No wonder Charlize was so excited; the influence of this series was not weak. Being able to use such a work as a screen debut was undoubtedly a huge opportunity. Thinking back on Charlize's arduous acting studies over the past half-year, and then today's gains from the street performance, the guest role in 'beverly hills, 90210' was undoubtedly the best reward."Wow, look who this big beauty in front of me is. Isn't it that beautiful and lovely girl from 'beverly hills, 90210'?" Hugo immediately said with a beaming smile, making Charlize tilt her head back and laugh heartily, her laughter dotting the entire room like stars. With great difficulty, Charlize finally stopped laughing, suppressing all her excitement deep into her heart. Only then did she notice the ambiguity between her and Hugo. They were hugging tightly, forehead to forehead, their eyes reflecting each other's. Their delicate skin and soft lips were clearly visible, and now that she had come to her senses, even the temperature of their breath was so real.Hugo had a soul-stirring gaze; its shimmering clarity could make one drown in it if they weren't careful. Charlize felt as if she were about to sink deep into those eyes. She couldn't help but shift her gaze downward. The clean, simple line of his jaw showed a faint shadow of stubble, and his soft, delicate lips traced a shallow curve. Complex and subtle emotions seemed clearly written at the corners of his mouth, making one instinctively want to read them.Charlize shifted her gaze down again somewhat unnaturally, and then she saw that Hugo was only wearing a pair of shorts. Apparently, Hugo was changing clothes when she burst in. Those firm, well-proportioned body lines caused Charlize's already irregular heartbeat to completely lose control at this moment.
