Chapter 194 - 194 The Oprah Show

"Recently, a movie has sparked heated discussion. It tells the story of a case that occurred within the army, but due to the complex relationships involved, it ended up in court. In court, the prosecution and defense engaged in a fierce confrontation. Of course, in the end, justice was served." Oprah stood in front of her sofa, calmly delivering her opening remarks to the audience. Every word she spoke was met with whistles and cheers from the audience. Although there were only 150 spectators, the atmosphere was incredibly lively."This movie, 'A Few Good Men,' reminds us of some far-reaching events this year, and also shows us the profound relationship between law and the military, and between law and morality," Oprah said with a smile. "But today, we are not here to discuss the deeper meaning of this movie, but rather another gain it brought us: Hugo Lancaster!"The audience's cheers instantly exploded, reverberating throughout the studio, creating the illusion that thousands of people were shouting and cheering. Hugo, guided by the staff, waved and walked out from the side of the stage. The excitement in the venue immediately spiraled to the brink of chaos. All the spectators stood up, clapping and shouting at Hugo. This scene brought Hugo back to Hollywood Boulevard last night—except that the current situation was still under control. This wave of frenzied enthusiasm made Hugo's blood boil and the energy within him surge, as if he owned the whole world.Cheers, it's so easy to get lost in them.Today, Hugo was wearing a white crew-neck T-shirt, a bright red suit jacket, light blue jeans, and white high-top sneakers. This outfit, casual yet flamboyant, was different from most of his previous promotional appearances. Especially the red jacket exuded a compelling youthfulness, fully igniting Hugo's vitality. This Hugo indeed possessed a captivating charm.Hugo and Oprah hugged tightly. Then Oprah was about to sit down, but the audience's cheers continued in waves, rising and falling with Hugo's gaze, simply refusing to stop. Hugo couldn't help but burst into laughter at the sight, and his dazzling smile once again caused the screams in the venue to spiral out of control.Helplessly, Oprah had to reiterate three times before the audience finally sat down. She looked at Hugo, spreading her hands, "You shouldn't laugh. It makes my opening very difficult. This is the hardest situation I've had to control since I started producing shows." Oprah's smile was met with laughter and applause from the audience.Hugo's smile reappeared, and a few uncontrolled screams broke out again. Hugo quickly lowered his head and rubbed his cheek with his right hand, trying not to laugh anymore. But unexpectedly, this slightly shy gesture triggered a chorus of screams from the audience. Looking at Hugo's perfect profile, it was indeed heartwarming."Let's welcome Hugo again! Please take a seat." This time, Oprah didn't try to stop them, but went along with it. The applause and screams erupted simultaneously. Hugo and Oprah then sat down."Do you all want to keep screaming for an hour? Or are you willing to let me speak?" Oprah's words finally quieted the audience, and low laughter broke out. "Hugo, is it like this everywhere you go now?""Oh, no, absolutely not." Hugo waved his hands repeatedly, denying it."That must feel great, especially after such an amazing year," Oprah said, leaning forward slightly on the sofa, looking at Hugo with an incredibly serious expression, slowly leading into the topic."Yes, it is. Thinking back to the Golden Raspberry Awards in January, who could have predicted that I'd be sitting in the interview chair on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' now? I don't know what you all think, but I certainly couldn't have predicted it," Hugo said with a broad smile, which caused a low murmur of excitement in the audience."Has anyone ever told you that your smile is truly captivating?" Oprah caught this small detail and immediately interjected, even abandoning her original interview plan.Hugo was stunned. "Are you serious?" Hugo still wasn't used to seeing himself, even when watching "Scent of a Woman" or "A Few Good Men," he would have the illusion that the person on the big screen was a complete stranger, not himself. So, Hugo hadn't really studied himself much."Of course, just look at the audience's reaction," Oprah's words brought another round of screams from the audience, answering with the most direct reaction. "I mean, your smile has a special feeling, like flowers blooming before my eyes, making people involuntarily moved.""I guess that should be a good thing," Hugo was a little embarrassed by the praise, laughing awkwardly and avoiding Oprah's gaze to hide his shyness."For girls, yes!" Oprah's answer caused a burst of laughter from the audience. "Hugo, you appeared on the big screen at fifteen, in 'Diner,' right? I remember that movie. So you must be considered a child star. Over the past ten years, you've also experienced the pains of transition, and now you've finally found your path, haven't you?""Child star? Really?" Hugo turned to look at Oprah, raising an eyebrow. "I don't know. I always thought only someone like Macaulay Culkin was a child star. You know, or kids who've shown their butts on the big screen, that type is called a child star." Hugo's words made everyone in the audience burst into laughter, even Oprah couldn't help but chuckle. "I'm serious. Actually, I don't consider myself a child star. I've always been an actor. I was younger before, and now I've grown up, that's all."Hugo had many fragmented memories of his past film shoots, but he still didn't consider himself to have started as a child star. Because from his very first film, "Diner," Hugo had actually played roles that were growing up, not really related to being a child. Hugo always felt that only children from a Disney background, for example, could be considered child stars—that was his personal opinion."So, you believe that you haven't changed much along the way," Oprah interjected, asking."No, of course not, there are still changes," Hugo said seriously. "For example, when I was fifteen, it would have been impossible for me to play the role of Daniel Kaffee. That would have had no credibility at all." Hugo's analogy brought light laughter from the audience; imagining a fifteen-year-old arguing in court was indeed amusing. "I think I'm still exploring the path of an actor. It can be considered a transition, but I'm still in the process of transitioning.""What do you mean? Are you saying you're still searching for the actor you envision yourself to be?" Oprah asked, delving deeper.Hugo nodded. "Yes, actually, before, I just wanted to be an excellent actor, diligently playing my roles well. That seemed to be all there was to it. Becoming an excellent actor like Nicholson or Pacino would be worth my continuous struggle, wouldn't it?" Hugo's words made everyone nod in agreement."However, I've been thinking recently about what kind of actor I will become in the future," Hugo continued. "You know, some actors have the ability to make audiences laugh, while others can uphold justice, and still others can portray every role brilliantly. It seems every great actor has their own unique characteristic, and I currently have no idea. So I think, yes, I am indeed transitioning, and it will continue until I determine my inner goal.""A great actor? I mean, you'll keep striving until you become a great actor." Oprah rephrased Hugo's somewhat scattered words. Hugo thought for a moment, then nodded. Oprah then sighed, "That's not an easy thing to do. So, when you received the Golden Raspberry Award earlier this year, it must have been a big blow.""You can't say that. Rather than a blow, it was more of a shock that woke me up," Hugo said, with a double meaning. Without the huge impact of the Golden Raspberry Award, perhaps this Crossing (transmigration/crossing over) wouldn't have happened."Tell me more about the Golden Raspberry Awards. Why did you want to attend the ceremony and become the first actor ever to attend the Golden Raspberry Awards?" Oprah asked."Wow, I guess that title will stick with me for life," Hugo chuckled. It wasn't exactly a glamorous title, but it certainly brought a laugh, and the audience indeed started laughing. "I don't even know what I was thinking at the time. Maybe I thought, since it's already come to this, I might as well go all out, it's better than hiding at home. Many problems don't disappear just because you don't think about them. Of course, even if you face them, they might not be solved. At least I didn't miss out on the Golden Raspberry Award, what a pity." After Hugo said this with such irony, the audience paused for half a second before bursting into laughter.Hugo continued with a light chuckle, "But I think having the courage to face problems might be a good start. So, when I actually received the Golden Raspberry Award, I cried, I cried so much I could barely speak. On one hand, I was thinking, 'Damn it!' But on the other hand, I was also thinking, 'Okay, maybe this is my rock bottom. Since I can't resist it, I might as well enjoy it.'"Laughter from the audience came in waves, and even Oprah was amused. This was actually Hugo's true feeling after learning he had won the Golden Raspberry Award, especially after realizing the trophy in his hand wasn't for a Midi Rock Music Festival award. That "Damn it!" was absolutely realistic."We must applaud your courage," Oprah said. "If it were me, I would absolutely not dare to attend the awards ceremony. For God's sake, I wouldn't even have the courage to read the newspaper the next day."Hearing Oprah's words, Hugo felt rather at ease. Perhaps that's just how things are. Everyone thought the Golden Raspberry Award was utterly humiliating, but after experiencing it, Hugo felt that everything had become easier."Well, I can hardly imagine how difficult your life must have been after winning the Golden Raspberry Award," Oprah then moved on to the next topic.
