The little girl had just wiped her slightly oily lips with a tissue when she sensed something amiss. Her eyebrows knitted, she mumbled, "Brother, there's something strange in MeiMei's head. It's so weird. MeiMei feels like she can learn and master these things."
Chen Wei saw her reaction and knew it had worked.
He chuckled, "That's a bit of magic from your brother. Remember how you saw me flying? If MeiMei practices this, she'll be able to fly just like her brother."
The little girl didn't overthink it. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she clenched her tiny pink fists and gazed at him, "Really? MeiMei can fly like big brother?"
Chen Wei nodded with a smile, "Absolutely, big brother would never lie to MeiMei."
"Yay!"
Filled with excitement, little Chen Mei clenched her fists and dashed into the yard, exclaiming, "MeiMei can fly too!"
"That's perfect. MeiMei will grow stronger effortlessly."
Chen Wei turned to watch the joyous little girl in the courtyard, a smile playing on his lips.
The system announced, "The wolf king's mutation is accelerating and could threaten the Host's life. It is recommended that the Host eliminate the threat in advance!"
As Chen Wei was about to consume a few more bowls of meat to absorb the life energy within, the system's voice echoed in his mind.
Startled by the message, Chen Wei blurted out, "Kill the Wolf King?"
"Yes, Host," the system confirmed. "The Wolf King's rate of mutation has accelerated significantly. It's hunting other mutated beasts with a frenzy. With fifteen more kills and the absorption of the black crystal energy from their brains, it will evolve into a level three mutated beast."
The system continued, "Should the Wolf King achieve level three status, it will become a significant threat to you."
Chen Wei's brow furrowed at this.
He trusted the system implicitly, but he was only at the second level of the Nirvana Stage. Even with his combat skills and techniques, he could at best hold his own against a peak level two mutated beast.
And now, the Wolf King was on the brink of becoming a level three.
He lacked the confidence for such a confrontation.
Chen Wei asked gravely, "System, what are my odds of winning?"
"The probability stands at 60%," the system replied. "Should the Wolf King complete its evolution, your chances will plummet to 30%."
A spark of resolve flickered in Chen Wei's eyes.
His family's farm lay against the mountain, vulnerable to the Wolf King's assaults.
Although the farm's defenses had been upgraded to level ten, capable of withstanding the Wolf King's onslaught, his current arsenal was only effective against level one mutated beasts.
If the Wolf King were to evolve as the system predicted, it might very well prowl just beyond his farm, lying in wait.
Chen Wei had no intention of allowing such a threat to loom over his home.
Preemptive action was his only recourse.
"Fine, I'll go and take it down!"
With determination in his gaze and after a few more bites of meat, Chen Wei rose to his feet and strode outside.
Reaching the courtyard, he gently tousled MeiMei's hair and said with a smile, "MeiMei, be good and stay inside. Don't open the door for anyone but me, okay?"
"Are you heading out, big brother?"
Chen Mei tilted her little head upward, her bright eyes sparkling as she inquired with a clever tilt to her voice.
Chen Wei responded with a smile and a nod, "Yes, I have some errands to run, but I'll be back before you know it."
"Okay, MeiMei will be good and wait right here at home for big brother."
"You're such a good girl, MeiMei. How about a kiss for your brother?"
With a grin, Chen Wei crouched down as the little girl puckered up and planted a kiss on his cheek.
"Big brother's off now."
Leaving the courtyard behind, Chen Wei strode towards the mountains at the back.
The environmental upheaval had transformed everything; animals had become monstrous, and even the mountain flora had undergone radical changes.
Trees that were once no thicker than a thigh had grown into massive, sky-reaching giants.
Those that had been as big as a grown person were now colossal, requiring a dozen people to encircle them.
This was Chen Wei's first venture into the mountains since the changes took place. The once-familiar trails now seemed alien, prompting a surge of nervousness and heightened alertness in him. His senses sharpened, he kept a vigilant watch for any unusual movements.
"System, locate the Wolf King," Chen Wei commanded.
"Affirmative, Host! The Wolf King's position is locked in, approximately 4,000 meters to your three o'clock," the System confirmed.
With that information, Chen Wei wasted no time and pursued the indicated direction.
His journey was a harrowing one, marked by bloodstains and the occasional carcasses of mutated beasts.
Each slain creature had its head savagely bitten, the black crystals within vanished without a trace.
Braving the acrid stench of blood, Chen Wei pressed on with determination.
"Lightning Step!"
In an instant, Chen Wei became a blur, darting through the woods like a bolt of lightning personified.
Minutes later, he reached his destination.
He leaped onto a thick tree branch and surveyed the ferocious battle below.
There, just 50 meters from his vantage point, a massive lone wolf, as large as a cabin, was locked in a brutal clash with four fierce tigers.
The tiger, once the undisputed sovereign of the pre-apocalyptic forests, had undergone a transformation that left it incredibly strong and savage. Yet, judging by its stature, it was clear that its level of power didn't quite reach the lofty heights of the Wolf King's realm.
