Chapter 24 - Siege of the Nothing

The Shattered Radiance was no longer a stage; it was a wound in reality. The white void left by the Architect's deletion hummed with an unnatural silence, a "recalculating" lull that Kael knew wouldn't last.

Above, the sky didn't part—it shattered.

A gold-plated streak of light tore through the white atmosphere, moving with the velocity of a falling star. The impact didn't just shake the obsidian floor; it sent a shockwave of Sovereign-tier pressure that forced Lira to her knees.

Rex Halvard stood in the crater, his Index of 72,000 pulsing with a maddened, suffocating heat. His golden armor was scorched, his face a mask of primal fury that surpassed his previous arrogance. He didn't look like a hero anymore; he looked like an executioner.

"You," Rex growled, his claymore dragged behind him, leaving a trail of sparks that ignited the digital mist. "The System called you a glitch. A mistake. But mistakes can be erased. I will burn this entire 'unrecorded' grave until there isn't a single pixel of you left to haunt me."

The Final Variable

Kael stood his ground, his obsidian eyes reflecting the golden inferno of the Sovereign. His body, now dense with the Stage 2: Event Thief evolution, didn't vibrate with fear. It vibrated with the anticipation of a heist.

"You're late, Rex," Kael said, his voice layered with the metallic resonance of the Void. "The Architect already tried to delete me. He failed. What makes you think a 'Hero' with a broken script can do any better?".

Beside him, Seren Vale stood up, her amethyst aura flickering with a new, defiant light. She leveled her broken rapier at her former guild leader.

"He's not alone, Rex," she said, her voice a sharp blade of ice.

Rex laughed—a jagged, hollow sound. "A traitor and a ghost. The System has already revoked your status, Seren. You are nothing but a variable now. And variables are meant to be solved.".

The Opening Move

Rex didn't wait. He activated Sovereign's Judgement. But this time, it wasn't a single strike. He swung his claymore in a 360-degree arc, releasing a sun-like expansion of golden Aether meant to incinerate every shadow in the arena.

"Lira, the Heart!" Kael commanded.

Kael slammed his hand into the Heart of a Forgotten City, channeling his new Script Hijack ability. He didn't try to block the golden fire. Instead, he hijacked the "Targeting Logic" of the attack itself.

[ Unique Ability: Script Hijack — 'Friendly Fire' ][ Action: Redirecting Sovereign Impact to: System Stabilizers ]

The golden blast hit an invisible wall and bent, curving away from Kael and Seren and slamming into the very "pillars" of the arena's reality. The white sky cracked further, revealing the dark, abstract gears of the Abyss Realm lurking behind the curtain.

Rex froze, his Index flickering in confusion. "You... you're rewriting the aim? That's impossible! A Zero cannot influence a Sovereign's intent!".

"I told you, Rex," Kael whispered, disappearing into a puff of Narrative Static. "In this chapter, the 'Hero' is just another resource node.".

Kael reappeared directly behind Rex, his hand glowing with the dark fire of the Seed.

Soul Index Status Update:

Kael Veyron: Hollow (Index 0) – Evolution Stage 2 (Event Thief) Active.

Rex Halvard: Sovereign (Index 72,000) – Status: Losing System Support.

Seren Vale: Amethyst Variable (Index 1,000) – Role: Rogue Ally.

Expert Guide Rule 2: Should Kael use his Script Hijack to steal Rex's Sovereign Rank temporarily to deal a finishing blow, or should he continue to dismantle the arena itself to bury Rex in the Abyss?
