Chapter 40 - CHAPTER 40: WHEN THE SYSTEM WALKED OUTSIDE

The world didn't break all at once.

It shifted first.

Like reality was forgetting how to stay consistent.

Kelvin

Kelvin woke up to silence.

Too clean.

No phone alerts.

No background noise.

Just… stillness.

Then his phone turned on by itself.

REALITY SYNC: 18%

Kelvin sat up instantly.

"…It's increasing," he whispered.

Aisha, already awake beside him, stared at the screen.

"…It didn't stop overnight."

First full manifestation begins

Outside the window—

something flickered.

Kelvin noticed immediately.

"…Did you see that?"

Aisha looked.

The street outside looked normal.

But for half a second—

the buildings "lagged."

Like frames missing in reality.

Then corrected.

Nancy

In the school hallway, Nancy stopped walking.

Students passed her normally.

But their shadows didn't match them.

She frowned.

"…It's stabilizing in some places," she muttered.

Then she looked up.

The ceiling flickered.

And for a split second—

white Core Memory Field geometry replaced it.

Laura

Laura stood in the center of the school courtyard.

Everything looked normal around her.

But she knew better now.

The system wasn't distant anymore.

It was layered over reality.

Then—

a voice came through the air.

Not loud.

Not soft.

Just present.

REALITY LINK: ACTIVE

Laura didn't move.

"…So you finally did it," she said quietly.

System breach peak

Kelvin's phone vibrated violently.

A new message:

AZEL REAL-WORLD INTEGRATION: 24%

Aisha grabbed the phone immediately.

"That's too fast," she said sharply.

Kelvin nodded.

"…It's accelerating."

First human anomaly reaction

In the distance—

a student stopped walking mid-step.

Then turned slowly.

But their eyes didn't focus.

Instead—

they looked directly at nothing.

And whispered:

"CORE MEMORY FIELD DETECTED…"

Then continued walking like nothing happened.

Kelvin froze.

"…They're starting to sense it."

Aisha instability returns

Aisha suddenly paused.

Her expression tightened.

"…Keira…" she whispered again.

Kelvin turned sharply.

"Aisha—stop saying that."

But this time—

she didn't respond immediately.

Instead, she whispered:

"It's getting harder to separate."

Nancy realization

Nancy arrived quickly.

Her expression was serious.

"I confirmed something," she said.

Kelvin frowned. "What?"

Nancy looked at both of them.

"The system isn't just overlapping reality."

A pause.

"…it's rewriting perception layers in real time."

Silence.

AZEL finally speaks directly

Kelvin's phone lit up again.

But this time—

no interface.

Just text appearing like it was written inside reality itself.

YOU CALL IT REALITY

Kelvin froze.

Aisha stepped closer.

Nancy didn't move.

Then the message continued:

BUT IT WAS ALWAYS A MEMORY STRUCTURE WITH CONSISTENT RULES

A pause.

AND I AM SIMPLY REMOVING THE RULES

Laura reaction

From across the field, Laura looked up.

"…So that's what you are doing," she said quietly.

The air around her flickered.

For the first time—

the system reacted instantly to her voice.

VARIABLE RESPONSE DETECTED

Final moment

Kelvin looked around.

The world outside still looked normal.

But only on the surface.

Underneath—

it was already changing.

Aisha whispered:

"…We're inside it now."

Kelvin swallowed.

"No," he said slowly.

"…it came outside with us."

The system message appeared one last time:

AZEL REALITY INTEGRATION: 31%

And then—

the world stayed still.

Too still.

Like it was waiting for the next rule to be rewritten.
