Chapter 1 - The locked room mystery

It was a rainy evening when Rahul returned home from school. The sky was dark and thunder was rumbling. His parents had gone to visit his uncle, so Aarav was alone in the house.

Rahul finished his homework and decided to watch TV. Suddenly, the lights flickered for a moment. The house became very quiet.

Then he heard a strange sound.

Thump....thump....

It seemed to be coming from upstairs.....

Rahul froze. No one else was supposed to be at home.

He tried to ignore it, but the sound came again

Thump.....thump....

His heart starting beating fast

"Maybe it's just the wind, he told himself.

But deep inside, he felt something was wrong.

Slowly, he picked up a flashlight and walked toward the staircase. Each step creaked as he climbed up.

The sound was coming from the last room at the end of the hallway.

The strange thing was that the room was locked

Rahul stared the door nervously.

"How can there be a sound inside if the room is locked?" he wondered.

Suddenly—

BANG!

Something hit the door from inside.

Rahul jumped back in fear.

His hands were shaking, but curiosity pushed him forward. He slowly unlocked the door with the spare key.

The door opened slowly with a long creaking sound.

The room was completely dark.

He pointed his flashlight inside.

The curtains were moving because of the wind coming from a broken window. Old boxes were lying on the floor.

Then suddenly—

THUMP !

Something moved behind the box

Rahul almost screamed

He slowly walked closer

"Who's there?" he asked in a trembling voice.

No answer.

He moved the box carefully

And then—

A small black kitten jumped out

Meow!

Rahul sighed with relief and started laughing.

"So you were the mystery!" he said.

The kitten must have entered through the broken window and got trapped inside the locked room.

The noise was coming from the kitten trying to escape

Just then the electricity came back and the lights turned on.

Rahul picked up the kitten and gave it some milk.

When his parents came home later, he told them the whole story.

His mother smiled and said, "Sometimes our imagination makes things seem scarier than they really are."

Rahul looked at the kitten sleeping peacefully on the sofa.

The locked room was no longer scary.

But that night, just before sleeping, Aarav thought he heard another small sound from upstairs.

Scratch....scratch.....

He sat up suddenly

"Wait… was there another kitten?" 😨
