Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The First Thesis

Inside the study of Spirit Hall.

Xiao Lin took out the quilt he had once used to sleep here and handed it to Tang San. He then turned around, sat in a chair, and began to write his thesis.

"Brother Lin, if you give the quilt to me, how are you going to sleep later?"

Tang San looked at the quilt in his hands, his expression somewhat complex.

"What do you mean 'how'? We'll just squeeze together later. It's so hot anyway; this isn't really a quilt, it's a mat," Xiao Lin replied absentmindedly.

He then began to contemplate a title for his thesis. He didn't intend to write this title using standard academic methods; he wanted to use a "clickbait" style.

"Shocking! The Circulation of Martial Soul Power Actually Has These Dangers!"

Xiao Lin thought for a long time before finally writing these large characters on his draft.

In truth, Xiao Lin had quite a few research theories, but he didn't want to shock too many people at once, nor did he want to reveal theories that were too high-level. Otherwise, he would worry about his own safety.

This theory was just right.

Ordinary people would notice the dangers mentioned, while clever people would start thinking about how to properly choose soul rings. Most importantly, Dugu Bo would be shocked upon reading it.

Making Dugu Bo surprised and getting him to care was exactly what Xiao Lin wanted to achieve. As for why Xiao Lin wasn't worried about Dugu Bo bringing him danger?

Firstly, he believed in Tang San's detoxification abilities. Secondly, he believed in Dugu Bo's attitude toward Tang San.

One must remember, even after Dugu Bo knew Tang San had taken all the Immortal Herbs, did he say anything? No.

In fact, he even became sworn brothers with Tang San. While Tang San's later act of taking the herbs was a bit unscrupulous, Dugu Bo himself didn't complain. Xiao Lin wasn't in a position to say much about it either.

With Xiao Lin here now, the worst-case scenario would be letting Tang San give Dugu Yan an Immortal Herb to improve her constitution.

For someone like Dugu Bo—who knew nothing about Immortal Herbs—once his life-threatening poison was cured and his granddaughter was out of danger, what more could he be dissatisfied with?

Using an Immortal Herb to improve Dugu Yan's constitution and giving her the same caliber of talent as the original Shrek Seven Devils would be quite a good deal.

Later, when Xiao Lin and the others went to Sea God Island for trials, they could bring Dugu Yan along to obtain God-Bestowed Ranks, God-Bestowed Soul Power, and God-Bestowed Soul Rings. Wouldn't that be even more generous than the original Tang San?

Once Tang San became a God, they could see if Dugu Yan had the potential for godhood; if she did, they could give her another push. Would that not be enough to earn Dugu Bo's eternal gratitude?

So, after weighing everything, Xiao Lin finally wrote down this theory.

The ultimate reason was that Dugu Bo was more trustworthy than the people in Spirit Hall.

Xiao Lin continued to write.

As is well known, the relationship between a Martial Soul and a Soul Master is inseparable. However, the color of every Soul Master's soul power varies, yet no one has paid it any mind.

Therefore, I, Xiao Yan, have conducted the following research regarding the relationship between soul power color and Martial Souls.

Author: Xiao Yan Mentor: Lin Dong

After filling in some details, Xiao Lin began citing references and classics.

According to various books researched by Xiao Yan, I discovered that the soul power among different Soul Masters varies and possesses different effects.

In the Travelogue of the Duke of White Tiger, it is recorded that while the Duke was "playing cards" with a maid, he discovered that his soul power was far more resistant to high-temperature damage than that of others.

In fact, as long as the Duke of White Tiger released his own yellowish-white soul power, he could ignore a great deal of damage. However, the maid's soul power did not have this effect, and her soul power found it difficult to withstand the high temperatures of flames.

The maid's Martial Soul was the most ordinary Plant-type Martial Soul, and her soul power was green, just like her Martial Soul.

Curious, the Duke of White Tiger used his own soul power to attack the maid's soul power and found that her soul power was completely no match for his yellowish-white soul power.

At first, the Duke of White Tiger thought he simply countered all Plant-type Soul Masters. It wasn't until later, while traveling throughout the Star Luo Empire, that he encountered a pair of twin sisters.

The lustful Duke was naturally unwilling to let these two roses go and directly invited the twins to "play cards" together.

However, to the Duke's surprise, his pride and joy—the White Tiger Martial Soul—failed him in front of the sisters. Or rather, his entire body of yellowish-white soul power instantly softened under the unique soul power of the twins.

The twins' Martial Souls were very ordinary Plant-type souls: the incredibly foul-smelling Rafflesia and the exceptionally fragrant Concubine Flower.

As soon as the twins released their Martial Souls and their green soul power came into contact with the Duke, his soul power softened instantly, and he nearly lost all will to fight.

It was only when the Duke of White Tiger was nearing the end of his life that he recorded this event in his biography.

This left Xiao Yan very confused.

Since they were all Plant-type Martial Souls, why did the twins' soul power possess such a powerful ability? Why did the Duke's soul power "soften"?

They were clearly all physical attributes.

After collecting relevant data and studying it carefully, Xiao Yan reached several basic conclusions:

First: Plant-type Martial Souls find it difficult to endure Ice and Fire elemental attacks. Even pure soul power is affected, making it hard to withstand high or low-temperature attacks. Typically, the soul power of a Plant-type Soul Master is green.

Second: The Duke of White Tiger's Martial Soul, the White Tiger, possesses an extremely Yang and rigid attribute, with excellent resistance to physical attacks. His soul power is yellowish-white, which is a Metal attribute that also counters Plant-type Soul Masters.

Third: The twins' soul power was very unusual; one could even say it was heavily influenced by their Martial Souls.

Having reached these conclusions, Xiao Yan became even more perplexed.

Xiao Yan investigated the descendants of the Duke of White Tiger and their Martial Soul, the Evil Eye White Tiger. This is a top-tier Beast Martial Soul, extremely powerful, but it does not inherently possess the so-called Metal attribute upon awakening.

However, when the Evil Eye White Tiger obtains its third soul skill from a Vajra Tiger soul ring, it gains the Metal attribute. It is only at this point that the Evil Eye White Tiger can truly be considered a top-tier Beast Martial Soul.

The soul power of a Soul Master with the Evil Eye White Tiger Martial Soul gradually acquires a yellow tint, turning yellowish-white. Furthermore, the twins' Martial Souls—the Rafflesia and the Concubine Flower—are rare.

Xiao Yan sought out records of these Soul Beasts.

In their initial stages, neither Soul Beast has offensive means; they both release a foul gas.

Once they reach the hundred-year cultivation level, the Rafflesia's scent becomes even more foul, while the Concubine Flower's scent turns into a pungent fragrance. Once the scents of these two Soul Beasts merge, they gain the ability to paralyze a person's entire body.

Xiao Yan believes this ability is the source of the twins' unique soul power.

What surprised Xiao Yan was that—whether it was the maid's soul power, the Duke's, or the twins'—their soul power attributes were already different from "initial" soul power even when they weren't actively using their Martial Souls. In some cases, even the color had changed.

Regarding this point, Xiao Yan is very curious: Shouldn't soul power just be soul power?
