The streets of Phoenix City have become deserted.
Aside from some citizens with nowhere to go, waiting in prayer for the war to end, the entire city is left with only a few guard units.
Maybe using the word "guard" isn't accurate, as anyone can see that just one or two Mechanical Infantry Groups can't even guard a corner of the city's outskirts. Rather than saying these units are left to defend against the enemy's attack, it's more like they're maintaining order in Phoenix City, or simply existing to prove that the city is still under control.
The citizens don't know the military's plan. They just silently watch the empty streets and the equally barren trenches and defense fortifications in the city suburbs. It seems the scene of the Allies' bustling activities still lingers before their eyes, where energetic young soldiers lined up at their camps, basking in the sun by the trenches, and curiously looking around the streets.
